Jaune looked at Yarrow suspiciously. Was she pulling his leg? âYou can wake up long enough to brew coffee, have a cup, then fall back asleep? Just like that?â
Jaune had trouble imagining himself doing such a thing. He had a hard time falling asleep. And it took some doing to wake him up, but once he started going he would keep on rolling for what he was told was an obscene amount of time. Stamina was his sellpoint after all.
His smile spread. âI havenât had any complaints about my playing for years, and Iâve become  a real globetrotter; I bet Iâve picked up a few that you knowâŠâ
He trailed off. He remembered his fatherâs exaggerated mannerisms: the accent, the peppering his speech with words from multiple languages, laughing loudly and often. Heâd done it because he was huge, and deadly, and he hadnât wanted people to be afraid him.
Jaune wasnât as big as his father, not quite. But he was still a big guy, and a professional huntsman of no small renown. He shrugged. Not much he could do about it now. ââŠCrap, they might have just been afraid of pissing me off. Oh well, I guess we can find out later, right?â He asked with a grin.
Whatever else had changed, the sun would rise in the north before Yarrow was afraid of him.
âIâm not much of a morning person. Never have been, even when out in the desert.â She shrugged slightly. âI got pretty good at putting on a pot of coffee while still half-asleep and drinking it, and then falling back asleep before the caffeine hit me a while later. Then when I woke up for good, I was ready to go for the day without being sluggish at all.â
Yarrow eyed him up and down again for a long moment, before bursting into laughter. Even if he was a bit taller, and more muscular than he had been at Beacon, he was still like a little tiny lamb. Pretty much harmless and adorable to most people. âYeah, thâday someoneâs afraid of you, Arc, is thâ day Iâll retire from being a Huntress. If anything, they were prolly worried that youâd try tâ play something else if they said you were awful at one song. Or youâre too nice to say anything mean to. No one wants tâ break your heart.â
