Triviaâs magic responded quickly and with it she brought forth a table with seating that Nathan planted himself in. âIâll do anything,â Nathan admitted, if Trivia wanted loyalty then it was hers, âbut uh, I guess it all started a little over a year ago. They caught wind of what my power could do and,â the ability to open any door, to lock anything away, the applications were endless. âThey laid a trap for me. They said I could either work for them or theyâd leak my identity to everyone Iâve stolen from. Fey, royal, noble, and common. Demons, lesser and greater. Witches, vampires. Iâve been at this for decades if word gets outâŠâ He settled his elbows on the table and sunk his face into his hands before his gaze found that of the Goddess. âThey killed that coven, I know, because I let them in the door. I let them in the prison, opened the cells of everyone inside.â The massacre on Halloween night, Nathan had slipped away before the undead had started to walk. âYouâve been watching me?â Nathan scoffed, âGuess I shouldnât be surprised.â He worried a hand through his short hair, graying in places from the lines of worry that were migrating from his brow and manifesting elsewhere. Nathan would swear these last twelve months had taken years off of his life. âNo, he doesnât know. Heâd never forgive me if he did.â Abel wouldnât understand that Nathan had no choice, or worse, he would. Heâd understand and heâd betray himself to side with the thief.

Itâs hard information to take in and yet she somewhat expects it. Heâs young yet, what he can do is far too useful, she should have prepared for this. Legs crossing at the knee and folding her hands atop it, Trivia looks to Nathan with her mouth drawn into a thin line. Could she even save him? It wasnât a matter of power, it wasnât even quite a matter of morals, it was a matter of justice, of balance. For a moment she just simply looks at him, fingers tapping at her knee idly as her mind goes a mile a minute. âYou know, Iâm kind of impressed you managed to get yourself in that much trouble.â She should have been watching more closely, maybe some of it might have been avoided. And yet itâs something that might as well be in his blood, he was half a demon, chaos was something swirling in his veins. âIt doesnât look good for you if any of them are caught and squeal. Youâll be a scapegoat, I canât imagine theyâd give one of their own away if they have people theyâre blackmailing.â No, she could see them offering him up and there is a part of her that wishes to hide him away, to tell him that this was it and that he couldnât return to a normal life. But that wouldnât be fair, itâd be selfish of her to protect him that way. âOr worse, theyâll tell you to take the fall and threaten Abel.â A sigh escapes her and she sinks down in her stone chair. âWeâve got options, but you arenât going to like them.â
