Ah, here we are! "Is this the one? The one we're supposed to watch?" We never get to choose. But we can choose to see. Always, always, watching... "Shush, you. We don’t choose. We are not choosers. We are see-ers. You’ll ruin it.”

Ew, gross, don't act like you know what you’re talking about, we were here first, okay? #wealwaysgettherefirst Did you see what they just said?! I think we missed something. Can someone rewind? No. It's too late now. You’ll just have to deal with it. "Well that’s not fair. I didn’t hear the part where they got the door open." Wait wait wait. What's that? Are they trying to move the plot forward?? "Everyone, quiet!! I swear, if I hear one more interruption…" Laaaaate… too late for you to be here, really. What’s left? "No! There’s always something left! Something’s going to happen."

But why? Why are we here?

We were born to see. We are made to watch. We are the ones who make the story real.

There’s always someone who asks questions. Always someone who thinks they know the answers. But they don’t. None of them do.

"Guys, are we in the right spot? I think this is the part where the thing happens."

*Ko seems to brighten up, ever so slightly. They keep the arm there with an… admittedly tight grip. That might bruise later.*

*Another nod, this one almost nervous. They always feel so exposed…*

*Nonetheless, Ko closes their eyes. It’s almost like diving, to them — chipping away at layers of (mental) protection, to get into a softer portion of the mind. Like ice and water, or the shell of a creature and the flesh underneath. Their body relaxes ever so slightly as the minds connect; and yet it tenses again moments later, brought back by a familiar tether.*

[The dive is easy. Smooth. Ko finds a clearing. A wooden door with ordinate carvings. It's slightly ajar.]

“Well, isn’t that concerning? Alright, we’ll bite.”

*Ko hops up to the door, grabbing onto the handle and humming. Their ears twitch, just to see if they can ‘see’ ahead with the noise. Feeling out the area is generally a better idea than jumping in, after all.*

[The main room is large. It's like a lounge. A place to hang out. That is, if they ignore the metal floor, white tile walls and the general <hospital/medical/laboratory> aesthetic. It looks lived in. There are multiple hallways and doors.]

“…wonderful. We’re going to be swarmed or something, aren’t we?”

*But Tower said to — and they trust Her. So… a step forward they go, creaking the door open. They’re tense, eyes scanning around. Some sort of… ribbons? curl around their arms.*

[The next room is a modern kitchen in black and white. The room is silent until the door clicks shut behind them. Wait—]

[L.S. used Point Of View (First).]

[My turn, bitch.]

[Multiple strings tightening around Ko, guaranteeing they can't move. A bang rings out from my shotgun.]

“Shit-!”

*Ko turns quickly, struggling against the strings. Their pupils are tiny slits. Their claws come out, trying desperately to slash — to grab and slice at anything they can. The Ribbons reach out, as well, seemingly studying the strings. Wrapping around them and trying to pull them off.*

*They don’t want to die.*

*They hiss at the noise of the shotgun, the noise disorienting. And then the pain registers.*

Oh, don't worry. I'm not killing you. Not in my own mind. I already have a ton of people here. I don't want to deal with one more body. You're luckly that I am the one that came after you and not one of the hundreds that reside here.

[The strings seem relatively normal, made of fabric. Black fabric, of course.]

“…Then what are you planning, L.S.?”

*They narrow their eyes at her. There’s plenty of disdain and anger, of course, but… a bit of respect and fear, too. The ribbons continue trying to tug the strings away, Ko stilling to let them help more easily. They wish it were Mi, right now — they’d be able to shift, if it were…*

[I tilt my head.]

What were you?

[The floor underneath Ko gives way. I give a little wave as the strings drop them.]

*…Shit. Quiet thoughts — right. How foolish of them.*

“We were plenty of things.”

*The ribbons fling outwards as the strings drop. Some head towards LS; others seem to grab randomly, trying to grab onto anything useful to wherever they may be going, or something to stop the fall.*

[I just step back so the ribbons miss me. I look unimpressed.]

Hm. Welp, you're not exactly my problem anymore!

[Anything the ribbons do grab onto, collapse immediately. It only takes a few seconds for the surroundings to morph. The space shifts to into white walls that are too clean to be real. On closer examination, the space is hallway for a very fancy hotel. The walls are made of mirrors. The walls were strange. At some points, the wall seemed... Wrong. Slightly tilted. Or stretched. There was just something about the walls that were wrong. All of them were wrong.]

[The hallway is empty, except for a figure leaning against a wall. He wears a red frock coat with brass buttons and a gold shirt underneath. He has black stovepipe hat with a red ribbon, red and gold gloves and a gold-capped cane. A small smile forms on his face.]

🏩: “Well, well, well.~ Look what just dropped in. Don't you know it's quite impolite to walk into someone's residence without permission?”

“…Does it look like we walked? Blame L.S. for our arrival to your abode.”

*Ko looks around the area. The mirror walls are going to suck, aren’t they? They can appreciate the fashion sense, though…*

🏩: “Hm.”

[A beat as he thinks.]

🏩: “No. This space is still a part of her mind, but I'm quite sure you are aware. All of those who arrive to The Royal Beth do so with reason. Yours... Well.”

[A silence fills the halls. The lights flicker. The man closes his eyes, swallows nothing and lets out an exhale. He's nervous about something, and he's trying to hide it.]

🏩: “Ah. That was quick. I do wish you luck, Ko. I can't guarantee what happens next will exactly be under my control.”

“…You fear who or whatever’s coming. Why?”

*Their eyes are scanning; studying their surroundings for anything that may help.*

[The man's form flickers with the light. His body remains the same shape. It's the appearance that changes. The gold turns to silver. The red turns to black. His skin changes to an inhuman white with black cracks. His voice is sharper, more sinister than before.]

🏩: “Because, surprise! We share the same body!~ And he doesn't like it when I take over.”

“…Ah. We see. You’re the crueler one, then?”

*They seem to relax a bit at that. This is something they understand quite well, after all.*

🏩: “That is the word the others call me, yes.”

[His form solidifies. Remains. The smoke tendrils seen in the mirror can now be seen floating behind.]

🏩: “You're... Interesting.”

[He circles Ko. The cane taps on the floor.]

🏩: “I have a feeling that I'm going to have so much fun with you.”

“We’re honored, we suppose? Better than being a bore.”

*They don’t bother to turn to look. They stare at him through the mirrors, although… they never have needed to rely on sight, have they? Their ears are twitching, wings purposefully out just a bit too far. The blue ribbons have yet to disappear.*

[With one quick motion, he twists the top of the cane, revealing a dagger. One moment, he's there. The next he isn't. Who knows where he'll strike?]

“…Great. Love this.”

*Ko starts to hum, eyes scanning around. Ears listening for any movement or humanoid shapes. Of course this has to happen in a place where they have practically no power… they shake their head, silver ribbons mixing with the blue ones. They start to grow warm, sparking with near-white embers. Nothing seems to happen with the blue ribbons, beyond them curling closer to Ko; almost like some sort of armor.*

[Starting from the furthest, one by one, the lights go out. Ko can hear him chuckle. His voice comes from everywhere, different directions, close and far.]

🏩: “Are you sure you can trust your instincts?”

“If we can’t, then there’s nothing left to trust.” *Besides Her, of course.* “Your attempt at making us doubt ourself is noted.”

*So they can’t use sight well — that’s a shame. It hardly matters. They’re more than used to low lighting, after all.*

“Let us guess — you’re smoke in the air?”

🏩: “Playing a guessing game now? Oh, I do love games.”

[Tendrils grab from behind, and slam Ko against a mirror.]

🏩: “Ah. What shame. Wrong answer.”

*Ko hisses, blue ribbons acting as a decent enough layer between them and any broken glass. The silver ribbons reach out for the tendrils, at the very least attempting to wrap around them.*

“With a lack of information available, it’s only natural to try and learn more, no?”

[He makes no attempt to prevent them from wrapping around the tendrils. It's a doorknob and he gladly turns it. The surroundings shift yet again. They're back with Tower and the GM. Tower has a neutral expression on Her face.]

“I shouldn't have to pull you out. I thought I trained you better.”

*Almost immediately, Ko looks like a Kicked Puppy. Their ribbons curl in around them, the silver ones disappearing entirely.* “We…”

*They pause, looking at the ground. They were outmatched, for sure. Weren’t they? They couldn’t even find the enemy, and the GM’s encounter… didn’t end well for them…* “…We apologize, Tower.”

[When did the area become cold and dark? When did Tower grab Her glaive? When did the throbbing in their head start?]

“Did you at least find anything?”

*Simple explanations; they were moved while in LS’s head, and the glaive was likely grabbed then. But… no, that’s wrong, isn’t it? They pause, studying Tower. Checking for small details — things they’ve noticed over the years the two have been together.*

“…We assume you already know, but L.S. is… not alone within her head. We were ambushed with that in mind. She has a large amount of control within her mind, as well.”

“Plan-wise, Ko. Plan wise. That is why I sent you in there, no?”

[Every detail is consistent. The throbbing is getting worse. It feels like someone is banging against their mind.]

*Their head hurts. It’s hard to think. It’s hard to talk. Maybe Mi’s trying to do something? But why would they be hurting them like that?*

“…We were ambushed before we could find much else… we think… something’s wrong…”

“So. You got nothing. Absolutely nothing. Disappointing from someone I personally trained. Maybe I should find someone more suitable for the task.”

[Tower walks towards Ko, closing the distance. She's about to raise the glaive when a phone drops from the ceiling, ringing. A slow smile forms on Her face.]

“You better answer the phone.”

*Ko flinches at Tower’s words. They look like they might cry. She’s going to replace them? Trade them in for something better? Just like she did?*

*They don’t bother taking a step away from the glaive. Away from Tower. They just shut their eyes, waiting for the pain. Is that what would make Her happy?*

“O-okay… we will…”

*Their hand reaches out, grabbing for the ringing phone. It’s loud enough that they don’t need to open their eyes.*

“…Hello?”

[A connection made. A door unlocked. A staticy voice comes through the phone.]

He has you trapped in your own head. You need to wake up. For me.

[The Tower in front of them takes the lace of Her eyes, revealing completely black eyes. Her skin pales as black cracks form. The glaive becomes a cane.]

🏩: “Do you still think I am a coward?”

*Ko immediately holds onto the phone, using it like a lifeline. Relaxing, ever so slightly. She doesn’t hate them. They glare at him.*

“…Absolutely. You hide, and then you try to use Her against us? The one person who we wouldn’t fight? Really, if you didn’t want to fight then you could’ve just said so. No need for all the ambushes and cheap tricks.”

[He shrugs.]

🏩: “It's not a cheap trick if it works. You almost let me kill you. What does that say about you, child?”

*Ko has seemingly forgotten that Tower is on the other end of the phone.*

“We love Tower, and refuse to betray Her. If She had decided it was best for us to die, then… we trust Her judgement. That is all it says about us.”

[He pretends to clean a button.]

*Ko squeaks, then nods.* “Right, right. Apologies, Tower.”

*All they need to do is grab onto their tether, and tug a bit — it usually works to get them out. So, assuming there’s no interference, it should work here, too.*

[Tower hugs Ko upon them waking up. The ribbons, which were around Ko's neck, drops to the floor limply.]

You're back. You're awake. I thought I was going to lose you.

[The chains rattle. Tower's concerned expression changes to fury as She turns to face my body.]

YOU.

[The man wearing my body smirks. He speaks in my voice.]

🏩: “Yes, darlin—”

[He's cut off by Tower grabbing his collar. He is full on grinning now.]

I will fucking end you.

🏩: “Are you, now? If you have the abilities, then why haven't you done it, cunt? Are you not as powerful as you say you are? Hm?”

[Tower punches the wall next to the chained up body. It leaves a dent and a few cracks. He doesn't flinch.]

🏩: “You should get therapy for those anger iss—”

Shut up. Just. Fucking shut up.

🏩: “Nah. This is so much fun!”

[He looks at Ko.]

🏩: “Don't you think?”

Do not talk to them.

🏩: “Oooo, momma bear's getting testy!”

[She slams my body on the wall behind it. He laughs.]

🏩: “There it is. The question of the day. The King of Nightmares. It's a pleasure to meet you, sweetheart.”

*Ko melts into the brief hug, pressing into Tower. The silver ribbons fall limp, before disappearing entirely, while the blue ribbons wrap around Her in return. They only disappear once Tower pulls away.*

*It’s okay She won’t abandon them or sell them or hurt them. They were stupid for even considering it. It’s okay. She’s here. Tower’s here. But why can’t they stop shaking?*

*Ko gives KoN a carefully neutral look. Tower told him to not talk to them, so they won’t feed into his ego help him speak by giving a response. Not unless absolutely necessary.*

“…He is hardly worth Your time, Tower. All he seems to be capable of is cowardly tactics and taunts. And… don’t worry. So long as You want us, we’ll remain. For You, if nothing else. You won’t be able to lose us so easily…” *Ignoring how close to dying they really were — even if they all know it. Ignoring how easy they’d let themself die, if they ever thought Tower ‘didn’t want them anymore’.*
