Throwback Thursday Sunday: Back to School Part I
Marlene’s face bore a deep frown as she watched the class bad boy and heartthrob Longbottom from her safe spot a few seats down the row, well hidden behind a stack of thick dusty books. The library was silent except for the quiet murmur he and his newest object of desire emitted - today it was a sixth grade Hufflepuff girl she believed, but honestly, it was hard to keep track of the girls he kept around. Not that she would try to keep track of them, no, not at all, Marlene just had some kind of scientific interest in the libido-driven behavior of young adolescent men. At least that’s what she liked to tell herself and everyone implying she may have a weird obsession with Longbottom. She watched as Frank twirled one of the girls’ golden locks between his fingers and her frown grew even darker.
She’d never understand why all those girls kept falling for his tricks, really. There was nothing even remotely likable about Frank Longbottom, she knew that first hand, had been rivaling with the snotty pureblood for almost all of her scholar career, yet for some reason the girls kept swooning over the moody outcast, falling for his dirty tricks one after the other. Naïve the young witch judged, absentmindedly nibbling on the tip of her quill, still staring at the pair. He wasn’t even that handsome, she decided furthermore, nothing worth throwing away all your dignity and self-worth over for sure.
Still, Marlene couldn’t quite lift her gaze off the dazzling blue of his eyes or the soft curve of his mouth when he smiled. And when he suddenly looked up, looked right at her she couldn’t help but think the world had surely stopped turning for a second or two. It only took her a tiny moment to regain her grace, make an ugly face at him and pretend he hadn’t just caught her staring from three desks down the row, but even that had taken her one second too long and they both knew it. She cringed when she saw that arrogant fucking trademark smirk of his spread on his lips, all winning and cheeky about it, and felt a burning blush starting to spread on her cheeks. Letting out a disgusted snort she shot him a passionately hateful stare before accepting her defeat and delving back behind her fortress of books, quietly cursing him under her breath.
No, there was certainly nothing even remotely likable about Frank Longbottom she kept lying to herself.
