✦🦝 THE BROKEN BLISS 🐦🦊
“Freedom tastes strange when your whole life was built to obey.”
Welcome to The Broken Bliss, a sci-fi/dystopian character-driven story about identity, surveillance, trauma, rebellion, and emotionally damaged animal people trying very hard not to become the same monsters they’re fighting.
Set in the cold megacity of Harmonia Prime within Zorathia, Novara, the story follows former “Carriers” escaping a society controlled through implanted gems, propaganda hymns, and artificial perfection… only to discover that freedom is a lot messier than they imagined.
There are drones. There is canned meat of questionable legality. There is emotional devastation. There are also grapes.

✦ SYNOPSIS
Every morning in Harmonia Prime begins the same way: a hymn echoes through the city. The screens activate. The Carriers obey.
In a world of towering white-blue structures, surveillance drones, and controlled behavior, individuality is considered dangerous. Citizens live under the rule of Governor Ōnnelik Naeratus and the Harmony System, where implanted gems regulate emotions, routines, and loyalty itself.
Retter Kyuseishu was supposed to be another obedient Carrier. Until their gem failed. After surviving forced recalibration and being left for dead in the undercity, Retter is dragged into the Rebellion: a chaotic network of former Carriers hiding beneath Harmonia’s polished surface. Among scavenged supplies, underground dens, and people far too emotionally unstable to be considered organized, Retter slowly begins learning what freedom actually means.
But rebellion is not clean. Trust fractures. Old wounds reopen. Betrayals cut deeper than claws. And as Harmonia tightens its grip, the people beneath the city must decide whether survival is enough… or if broken systems deserve to fall completely.
✦ MAIN CAST
🦝 RETTER / RETTERIN KYUSEISHU
Raccoon-Goat-Rabbit Kimera ✦ they/he to they/she ✦ bisexual/asexual
A former Carrier raised under strict Harmonian control, Retter begins the story quiet, detached, and painfully independent. They struggle with anxiety, trust, and understanding themself outside of obedience. Beneath the deadpan expression, however, is someone deeply emotional, stubbornly resilient, and capable of launching into people headfirst like an angry mountain goat.
Over time, Retter slowly begins embracing a softer, more feminine identity as “Retterin,” learning that freedom also means allowing yourself to exist honestly. Loves rice with alarming sincerity. Accidentally terrifyingly strong.
🦊 MHURYŌ AKAHOSHI
Fox-Cat Kimera ✦ he/they ✦ pansexual/transmasc
Impulsive, loud, and held together by pure momentum, Mhuryō is one of the younger members of the Rebellion and Retter’s first real connection outside Harmonia. He acts fearless despite being held together by emotional duct tape and questionable decision-making.
Mhuryō jokes constantly, starts fights he can’t always finish, and treats danger like an inconvenience. Beneath the chaos, though, is someone deeply caring who understands what it means to rebuild your identity from the ground up. Also colorblind. Unfortunately trusted with explosives anyway.
🐭 WHINZIG KOBAYASHI
Mouse Kimera ✦ she/they ✦ bisexual/aromantic
The current leader of the Rebellion and possibly the angriest creature in Novara despite being approximately five inches tall. Sharp-minded, practical, and brutally efficient, Whinzig rose through the ranks through sheer determination and Kumo’s unwavering support.
Though often bossy and emotionally guarded, she genuinely cares for her people and carries the crushing weight of leadership alone for far too long. The betrayal forces her to confront both her own flaws and her fear of relying on others.
🐻 KUMO HOGO
Bear Kimera ✦ he/him ✦ straight
Whinzig’s bodyguard, translator of chaos, and living fortress. Kumo is deaf and communicates through sign language, usually with far more emotional intelligence than the rest of the Rebellion combined. Calm, dependable, and absurdly strong, he acts as the emotional backbone of the tunnels.
He avoids conflict whenever possible… unless Jean-Luc is involved. Then it becomes personal. Known crimes include stealing Whinzig’s bed despite physically not fitting in it.
🐺 JEAN-LUC URAGIRIMONO
Lykoi Kimera ✦ he/they/it ✦ gay
A cold-headed strategist with a sharp tongue and even sharper claws, Jean-Luc helped raise Whinzig long before the Rebellion existed in its current form. Intelligent, manipulative, and emotionally constipated beyond repair, he eventually betrays the Rebellion in a moment that leaves lasting scars on everyone involved.
Though allowed to remain after the incident, trust never fully returns. Jean-Luc regrets more than he will ever admit out loud. Speaks in a dramatic French accent and treats pettiness like an art form.
🐦 CORVINA SEN’NYŪ
Raven Kimera ✦ she/they ✦ pansexual
Smuggler, infiltrator, professional instigator. Corvina moves between Harmonia and the underground with frightening ease, stealing supplies, leaking information, and somehow surviving situations that should absolutely kill her.
Confident and theatrical, she thrives on gossip, dramatic timing, and annoying authority figures. Unfortunately, when plans fail, she immediately devolves into panicked squawking and overexplaining. Despite acting unserious, Corvina becomes one of Retterin’s strongest emotional supports as the story progresses.
🦁 ŌNNELIK NAERATUS
Lion Kimera ✦ he/him ✦ straight/asexual
Governor of Harmonia Prime. Publicly composed, elegant, and terrifyingly controlled, Ōnnelik presents himself as the perfect symbol of order beneath a smiling mask and artificial gem.
Privately, he is unstable, deeply traumatized, and haunted by the violence that built Harmonia into what it is now. His obsession with control masks a fractured identity shaped by abuse, war, and unbearable guilt. Though initially positioned as the story’s central antagonist, Ōnnelik’s role becomes far more complicated as the rebellion forces both him and Harmonia itself to confront what survival has twisted them into.
