Not even, the chest and lower pockets on BDUs are inaccessible when a vest or plate carrier is being worn, so by moving the chest pockets to the shoulders and lower pockets to the chest and angling them inwards, the uniform is actually made more practical. It’s got nothing to do with patches.

they make these things for plate carriers and other chest rigs called pouches, you know? They hold anything from med kits to coms to magazines and if you weave the molle in correctly they don’t have the risk of falling off if they’re snagged on something.

Not everything goes on or needs to be carried on the chest rig/plate carrier/2nd line gear. That’s more for real life shit, but it applies to airsoft somewhat as well.

Key examples would be personal first aid kit, wallet, red rag, cellphone, notebook, small snacks for airsoft purposes. No need to waste space on your 2nd line gear for that.

Real world shit probably throw survival kit, signals, backup comms - all stuff you’d wanna keep on you if you need to ditch your rig.

Plus if you tuck your BDU blouse in, RAID modding removes excess material that gets tucked into your pants to minimize heat build up.

And everyone talks shit about patches but airsofters have skewed the meaning of patches to “lol so funny so tacticool I’ma put it on my gear lol”. They serve ID purposes as well, one of the key roles of the RAID mod.

First of all, leave the phone and other valuables in the car for airsoft. Leave a lot of the excess shit in the car. Second of all, nobody tucks their blouses. Now, red rag should be in an easy to pull spot, aka the open pant pocket, med kit doesn’t need to be easily accessible if people are responsible. And if you think logically for a microsecond, loading all this stuff onto your front or onto your arms rather than equally distributed around your middle is only going to get in the way of shooting. Real life, if I was going to “bug out,” I wouldn’t want a front heavy jacket, I’d want a system to make it easy to carry all that over a long distance that I could wear with a t shirt. (Don’t kid yourself, summer wear BDUs are still very hot.) Looking at this set up, even if it was for a two day op, it just doesn’t seem useful. The pockets can get ripped off and gear inside stolen, they can get snagged and lost, if the guy is gonna run a plate carrier like he says he’s running, run the plate carrier because if it’s fitted properly the pockets like this can’t hold anything.

Basically you’re modding m81s to be like MARPATS. The only think the arm pockets are good for is 1)cigarettes and lighter/matches 2)kill card/zap card w/e you want to call it 3)CAT And unless you are running a kit with out any chest protection the front pockets are useless because they are covered by chest gear.

Does anyone even know the origins of these mods? The concept came waaay before MARPATs. You could say these mods inspired the ACU and MCCUU. The RAID mod in specific was requested by SF dudes to work with their PPE so they must have been on to SOMETHING when they spec’d these mods.

You realize with the advocation of the Crye style combat shirt more people tuck their shit into garrison than ever. It started with SF dudes modifying their shit in the field. Also back from ww2-gulf1 dudes were carrying primary ammo loads in cargo pockets.

You're joking right? RAID mod makes BDUs field expedient instead of a liability. Patches are for unit/blue force ID and Tango checks. Removing the extra uniform from the bottom of the hem also allows for better ventilation. Most of all having the pockets accessible is why it's done. Maps. Comcharts. Notebooks. Spare coms. SERE and fire starting gear. Gunshot immediate treatment gear. These are all things people who kill for a living put In their pockets.

Oh and a fat pack of beef jerky.

I'm still running the 5.11 tactec. 2 days a week every week for almost a year now. It's held up remarkably well. Not even a broken stitch and I've got Level 4s and soft armor in it. Plus Abunch of other shit. It really is a good vest for the money, that and it's got a few things going for it other than durability, it's got buoyancy foam in it (I got in the pool and floated.) and the shoulder straps are cut to form to you shoulders so that the weight is evenly distributed. It's a slip on/slip off as well, with elastic sides with built in Webbing. No more fucking with Velcro every time you need your vest. You just throw it on like a hoodie and go. Also doffing is easier as well. You lean over and pull it off like a freakin glove.

Don't mind me though I've owned 6 rigs in 3 years and landed on this one.
