4 basic tips from a system of 8 years (aka things I wish I could have told our system when we were starting out)

Buy clothes as a set. Don't waste money/time getting random items that you trust will "sort themselves out". No. Better if there's a trusted headmate who does the shopping. Especially if your system is lowkey/low income generating. If you have a lot of headmates, there's gonna be a lot of random clothes that won't work well together, and ultimately can't be worn and used at all. Think realistically if it will be something the system can comfortably use, not just fulfilling a particular headmate's aesthetic. Getting a "neutral" set of clothes and pairing it with an accessory that headmates like works wonders for my system.

Do not attempt to hide things from your other headmates. You will forget where you've placed them, and it implies distrust. The less headmates who acknowledge a thing, the less you're going to remember it. For us, we use a eye-catching (glittery, sticker-y, vibrant color, etc) notebooks to note down important belongings and itineraries. It's easy for the others to go "ooohh what's That" and as an excellent recollection and reinforcement method for items and personal belongings. Excellent for account passwords, where important documents are, important items, etc.

get a journal for Important Thoughts™. (Again, make sure the journal itself sticks out so other headmates can easily imprint on it.) This journal basically acts as a public bulletin board of notices. Use this for tagging and identifying, so other headmates can get informed easily. This also helps with the memory gaps and cuts down on the "uhhhh this is important but i don't know why". This is also a good warning system (ex. Person A is an asshole and draining, steer clear. Person B takes advantage of kindness. etc) You can have a digital journal, but having a physical copy tends to imprint on minds better.

Lastly, you do not have to prioritize on finding out who your headmates are. Let them find themselves. Let them define themselves. The more they build on themselves with their surroundings other than constant communication and building their identity around their role in a system, the more stable they are. If you do not want a headmate to be dependent on other headmates, expose them to new environments and situations. Get them out of their bubble. A system that constantly runs internally will not be comfortable fronting and taking the lead out in the real world. My system lost time cataloguing ourselves when we could have prioritized on how we could properly share and find out how to manage our time and space within a single body. Discipline your headmates.

that is the cutest cat!! thank you for your ask, we technically identify as syscourse unaligned ourselves. we have some alters who lean pro endo, some firmly anti endo but we all agree that online discourse is pointless. we care more about preventing misinformation, and protecting our own mental health. we're all good with you guys following us, you seem super cool btw.

we do know you need trauma to develop did/osdd. however i am not going to police someones spiritual beliefs etc. that lead them to identifying as an endo system. if that makes sense lol

I understand why a lot of systems are frustrated that fictives take a forefront in the community a lot but you have to realize that the reason fictives are talked about so often is because fictive heavy systems are constantly fakeclaimed and treated like we arent real. I agree that systemhood isn't all about fictives but that doesnt mean we arent allowed to speak about how we're treated as fictive heavy systems (ESPECIALLY fictive heavy systems who latch onto fiction due to their trauma/other disorders) and how poorly fictives are treated individually.

fictives are not the only aspect of the disorder, yes. but systems are constantly treated like theyre lesser than BECAUSE they have fictives. its a genuine problem that needs to be addressed.

same person from the last ask !! another hot take is you can lie if you need to. not everybody needs to know things about your system and if they're being pushy, you shouldn't feel forced to tell them. especially if it feels unsafe.

Also, yeah! Privacy and safety above all, lie if you need to. You don't owe anyone any information about your system, especially not strangers or people who make you uncomfortable!

I often see systems online talking about feeling bad 'lying' about who's in front, or an alters source or age or anything...say whatever you need to say to feel safe. Telling someone your x alter isn't harming anyone!! Not telling people your a system is okay! Not telling people an alters source is okay! You do not owe anyone that. And you shouldn't feel guilty for looking after yourself.

It would be insane to expect someone to share every piece of information about themselves with everyone they talk to online, I don't know why the pressure is so very present for systems and alters.

Weird thing we've noticed with communication lately is finding it incredibly overwhelming when we can hear other alters near front easily. It doesn't happen often but when we do it stresses us out and overwhelms us. System communication is so weird 😭
