INDEFINITE HIATUS

In case you didn't notice, I haven't been on much. In fact almost not at all.

To make a long story short, there has been a lot going on with my family. My alcoholic mom went off the deep to the point it nearly killed her twice. She's better now but after three years of dealing with the worse of it I'm drained in every way possible and I just want things to get back to normal. The alcohol took its role as she's been doing this her whole life and needs brain scans now.

Not sure when I'll ne back on. I still keep Eve's account open on the app. I can still respond to messages but it's clear I cant even find the motivation to respond to anything RP.

I'm sorry to everyone i started threads with and then just disappeared. I'm sorry all this shit is happening.

Yes, things have been rough the past few years but big changes are coming. I'm not promising that I'll come back but things are gonna look up this year after I move.

I loved our threads too! I miss rping as Eve but knew I needed a break to deal with all that's going on.

This was bad.

“Daisy, don’t call yourself that. You’re not a robot or a cold killer. You’re more, I promise.” She really didn’t mean to hurt Daisy like this. For a long while all she felt was bitterness and cynical anger towards everyone and it looked like Daisy was an unfortunate target for all of the frustration that had finally poured over. “I’m a stupid kid who doesn’t know any better and I shouldn’t have said any of that.” Eve had to fix this. She had too! This vampire was one of the so few that accepted her place in this coven! She couldn’t lose her! “You’re right, I’m angry and taking it out on you when I should never have started this. I won’t do it again“ She was ready to shift blame to herself in that moment. It was hard to keep her voice level when she was ready to break down.

Daisy didn’t respond at first, shaking her head. She didn’t want Eve’s sympathy and sudden change of heart for no reason. Eve said what she meant the first time. She knew that most of the time that people thought of her as exactly what she said. An ice cold killer with no emotions, and she assumed that wasn’t going to be different, even with Eve.  “Don’t lie to me, Eve. It’s not on you, it’s on me. Everyone sees me as that, you wouldn’t be any different.” 

She looked away from her for a moment or two, rebuilding the wall that had been forced down. She knew that it wasn’t going to come back up as quickly as she wanted, that the pain would still show in her eyes, though her expression had been schooled out to neutrality. “You may speak to me as you wish, Eve. You have something to say, you shouldn’t be afraid to say it.” Of course, normally Daisy was so quick to brush it off. This was the first time it hadn’t been that easy. She was definitely struggling to put the wall back up.

‘You really do have a talent for messing these things up do you?’ That voice in her head needed to shut it.

“I shouldn’t have said what I said and I really am sorry.” The apology came so easily when the idea of losing Daisy as a mentor and friend was a real possibility. Okay so she was angry but that didn’t excuse having to verbally cut Daisy where it would hurt. She could almost hear her mother scolding her now. Her dad’s utter disappointment. Zack...oh no.

She the hand without hesitation. This would either be her first step towards revenge or the first sign of her downfall. Either way, she was not going to make this easy for anyone. Looking like a little doll and wearing a mask of total indifference (her mother would be proud) she let Varga lead her from her main lobby which seemed to gather in a fearful hush once it was made clear she had arrived. A rather petty part of the teen felt smug at their anxious glances towards her. She arrived her a shaking mess close to tears and now she looked just like a mini version of her mother. They all could see it. A pretty little face that held sharp teeth and a taste for blood.

Across the room she spotted the entire reason she was here. The main reason she was officially an orphan and the main point of her murderous thoughts.

She squeezed varga’s hand briefly. Seeking comfort or just needing to release some tension at the sight of her mother’s murderer? Not eve Eve was sure.

Noticing the squeeze, Varga gently squeezed Eve’s hand back in attempt to be reassuring. He glanced over at Semira, dressed rather well, and for once, not in black. She actually wore a fairly light shade of silver. Varga could guess at to what it symbolized; silver being the thing that was deadly against lycans. Well, he thought with amusement, she chose a bad evening to wear it. 

“Have you ever seen the movie Carrie, Eve?” he asked curiously. “You see, I grew up in the sixties and seventies, and Carrie was one of my favorite movies. Something happened to Carrie but truly, the bullies of the film deserved it far more than she did. Part of me always wanted to see it happen to someone who really deserved it.”

“I didn’t really have time to watch movies while I was on my own.” She didn’t have the money to spare either, if any at all. It had all gone to charity stores that sold clothes for cheap. Water and food when she needed something to keep her stomach full and blood was no option. Entertainment wasn’t high on her very small spending list. “But I like where you’re going.” She gave a cute smile.

Eve winced and her heart just broke when Daisy seem to just deflate. Eve had done the impossible and put one of the most battle-hardened and driven death dealers close to tears.

The teen felt like the worst person alive right now. Daisy had always, in her own way, treated the girl excactly as she was: A girl. Not a beast or an abomination. Just an angry teenager who needed someone to listen to her and offer help when it was clear Eve needed it.

‘You have a real knack for ruining every good relationship you get, don’t you?’

“Daisy, I’m sorry.” It was awful how small her voice sounded. “I’m angry. I’m a jerk. I want someone to know how I feel but I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Even to her own ears she knew there wasn’t much she could say if Daisy had made up her mind.

“Yes you did, you wouldn’t have said any of that if you didn’t know it would hit right where you wanted it. You and your father are the same in that, I have heard what he is like when he is angry. There is no need to apologize for speaking the truth. That I truly am just a robot. A killing machine.” Another wall going up around her heart. Cold and ruthless, robot. That was what the coven knew her as. Perhaps she had fooled herself to think Eve saw more than that. She had been known to occasionally bare her soul to Eve by accident, such as when she was just coming back to the field and she broke down after shooting a lycan pup that for a moment, she could have sworn was her own baby Natalia.  

Too bad that she had been wrong. 

“You’re a teenager, you have all these emotions that you do not know how to process so they turn to anger. I am well aware of how this works. Despite how robotic I am, you know I had been there once. Centuries ago, but I had been in that position.” The memories had mostly faded until she worked with Eve, where there had been moments that struck a memory in her. Her own anger that resulted in a major fall out with her parents, something that Daisy had almost forgotten about. 

Did she want to give up teaching Eve? Absolutely not, but there was nothing to be done when Eve seemed to be this insistent that it was all she was. Not a suitable teacher. 

How could she ever think she was anything but a fighter?

And it was a good one too.

Eve knew that in her own way she could be more than a bit prideful. Her time on her own, killing so many monsters that wanted her dead, and fighting with the strength of an army made her…self-assured. Threats aimed at her were few and far between these days. From her own actions or those of her parents? Hell, even Varga might tell them to cut their ‘petty chatter.’ She was a young girl who didn’t truly belong anywhere and everyone knew it. It was why her dad frustrated her so much. She relied on him more than she let him know.

She tried to rack her brain for the right words to say and none came up. Stubbornly she didn’t want to admit she was wrong and a softer part wanted to just hug Michael and go back to her room.

Michael could tell that she was at a loss for words and he nodded slightly. Much like Selene, he had assumed that she would be shutting him out for speaking his mind against her. He walked over and instead of saying anything else relating to this at first, he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. 

“You are free to whatever you think is right, Eve. I know I’m your father, but I can’t tell you how to act. I can only give you my opinion and perspective. From there, you make your own decisions.” He rested a hand on her shoulder and he smiled down at her for just a moment. “I just want you to be aware of that. If you want to respond in other ways, you are more than welcome to, just keep in mind what I told you.” 

A pause for a moment and he took a deep breath. “If there is anything you need to talk about, you are more than welcome to come to me if you need to.”

The kiss, as with every time he did this, was accepted with an embarrassed tilt of her head but without a grumble or fuss. How many times did a teenager lose in an amicable fight with their parent? Especially when it started with such hostility? He was right. She needed to curb herself at times.

“Yeah, okay.” The mutter came out in such a typical fashion for someone her age. He was always her dad first and he did make an effort to make her feel like she could trust him with anything. She did. For good reason.

“If you can’t fight, you can’t survive.”

She spat out a bit blood along with her words. “It’s all I’ve ever done.” As a little girl she had remained docile as a means to be unseen by her captors. As she got older though, well, her strength had never reached it’s full capacity but even then some of the Labcoats kept a wide berth from her. She was strong enough to make it, barely.

Fighting for survival and just the right to live. She would keep doing it until the world itself imploded.

Contrary to what many of the vampires here thought, Eve did have a heart. Her father’s heart to be exact, it was what her mom always told her. ‘His eyes, his smile, and his heart are all yours.’ Everything about him that Selene fell in love with to begin with. A heart that did care deep down. A heart that had been hurt too many times by people she was suppose to trust. A heart that was starting to crack at Daisy’s break in her normally stoic mask.

“I-”

What could she say to make this better? Too late for that now, the damage was clearly done. Eve had just accomplished (though there was no victory in this) what so many didn’t think was possible. Daisy, a vampire known for ruthlessness and ‘if-looks-could-kill’ icy stares, looked ready to shed tears because of Eve’s words. She may have her father’s smile but her words had to be from her mother… Who was she kidding, even Selene wouldn’t have taken it that far. Not anymore at least, she would have worded it better. “I didn’t…I only meant-” How could she put this into words when her own feelings and emotions weren’t stable?

“I know what you meant,” Daisy’s tone was biting, but in a different way than normal. Gone was the cold and emotionless tone easily associated with the vampire captain, now her tone held hurt and anger. “Of course I know what you meant when I hear the whispers of the coven. When I’ve know what you think of me for some time. Cold and heartless, an emotionless robot that doesn’t even care for her own children.” She could almost laugh at that now, knowing just how much she had grown in that regard and how much she showed her emotions to her kids so they never thought they weren’t loved and cared for. Nobody but them and Zach saw that side of her. “A frigid bitch.”

She had been trying, every damn day to let her walls down, but the losses she had faced in her immortal life was enough to make it almost impossible to let it go. Until now when someone she had considered to be a friend hurt her in such a way. What else was she supposed to say to that? Eve knew exactly what to say to her, it seemed, to trigger a response. Perhaps it was time that someone else took over Eve’s training, and she gave voice to the though. “I will no longer be training you. I am not a fitting mentor if you do not feel like you can trust me,” She was speaking through the lump in her throat, the pain this caused her. Training Eve has been a challenge and something she looked forward to, but not anymore. “I will speak to your parents about finding a fitting replacement. I want you to have a mentor who you can trust.” Maybe not Selene, but Michael at least. She no longer had the energy to speak with the vampire queen. The words broke her further and it was the last thing she wanted to do. But perhaps Eve would be happier with someone else. Someone who was more like her mate, who was easy to talk to and more emotive.

And he didn’t just refer to the socialites and servants who just weren’t cut out (or that willing) to learn how to defend their home. There were plenty more who served the coven differently albeit just as efficiently. Other coven doctors, technicians, security monitors, even the groundskeepers and gardeners had more respect from Eve than a few of the Council members.

Still it was just…frustrating when she thought of all she could do and all he could do at the same time.

“And what if they won’t stop?”

Eve couldn’t help herself at this point. She wanted to know.

“Then they don’t stop. I’ve been hearing people call me these things since I was turned. Hell, I have Lucian’s memories of Viktor calling the unborn hybrid child an abomination as well, so from before I was even turned as well. There will always be people who disagree with our existence. To me, the best revenge is not to prove how strong we are, because they know. It’s to prove that we’re the better person. They want to call me an abomination? Fine, let them. But which doctor will be first in line to treat them? It will be me, showing that I’m the bigger person.” Had he been tempted to use his strength to scare people off of him? Of course, and he did but not when it came to him. The threats against his daughter were ones he never turned a blind eye to. “The words haven’t bothered me in a very long time, because that’s all they are. Words. These vampires are cowardly.”

What he was suggesting could very well put them both in the ground if they went too far. Eve had already seen one vampire die by her hand when the girl first arrived at the mansion. He made somewhat of a fuss over some ‘hybrid bastard’ being allowed to stay in the last fortress known to vampire kind and by the end of the night he had lost his tongue and his life by the sword Semira carried with her. No one said anything afterwards. Now here was Varga telling Eve that he would personally see to Semira’s own embarrassment all to cheer her up. It was too good to be true! Which just might mean it was…

“If I help you, then I’m not taking any blame.” Eve remained steadfast in her own hard-learned lessons that vampires were too volatile to be trusted fully. Varga may be her only ally right now but he was still close to Semira. Eve wasn’t letting her guard down for anything, not yet. He wanted to be her friend? He better be prepared to work for it. And that meant making sure she didn’t piss off her newfound guardian.

“Obviously.” Varga suggested. “I’m not asking you to take blame. Most likely, I will be taking full blame. Now, come on. We mustn’t keep everyone waiting.” he spoke, offering his hand to the hybrid. In the ballroom, Semira was practically bragging about Eve. She wanted this alliance to go smoothly, and she knew that Eve was the biggest point of interest for them. A coven that had such a strong vampire was a force to be reckoned with, and a force one would want on their side rather than their enemy.

“Who said I didn’t understand it?” She understood it just fine but surely his long fuse was going to run out one day. Why let it get frayed and destroyed when he could stomp it on himself but putting his own damn foot down?

“Not everyone in our world needs to be a fighter, Eve. Some of us don’t have that temperament.” He had no interest in fighting, never had and probably never would. If it ever came to it, he would, but words stopped phasing him a long time ago. “Then you can do that, and I’ll stick to my way.”

It was a damn shame the coven didn’t have some sort of counselor. Working Council filled with old-timers who probably witnessed the resurrection of Christ? Of course! Trained mental doctor who could probably temper out the anxious youth? Well considering she was the youngest in the coven Eve could kinda see why no one saw any real need…

Even so this would be so much better to talk about with someone actually trained to deal with it and not someone like Daisy. She was just like her mother but even more emotionally awkward if that was possible. How did Zack do it? “I’m not telling lies. I’m just not in the mood to discuss it with you.”

“Fair, but then we’re done for today.” Daisy took a few steps away from Eve and went to clean up their training area. It seemed like whatever was going on in Eve’s head was enough that it would distract her from her lessons today. “I understand not being in the mood to discuss things, but whatever it is seems to be affecting your focus and your training. If you’d like to find your father or even Zach to discuss it with, because I know you are more comfortable bringing it to him, go ahead.” It didn’t hurt her that Eve didn’t want to talk about it with her. She wasn’t her mother or anything. She was just her teacher and her captain.

In hindsight, where was her sudden bought of nastiness coming from? Her mood seemed to tip over after the words hissed at her from some naive rookie but she had never let another’s words cut her before. Not anymore anyway. It had to be further back...little things that wouldn’t stop adding up.

“You want elaboration? Fine.” A young face, scrunched in judgment, met the older vampires unreeling icy gaze. “You never drop this act of yours. At first I thought it was just to keep pace with my mom but now I see it’s all you ever truly are. This mask you wear like it’s the most unyielding form of protection for you. When all it’ll ever be is proof that you’re afraid to change your ways. Have you even changed a little from before the Purges?” Eve didn’t need to get close to Daisy to see the storm in her eyes now. This was quickly spelling out trouble. Just like her mom before the mess with the Elders….Eve just didn’t know when to stop.

“How can I trust someone who’s daily routine includes acting like some military robot 24/7 as if our worlds need more an emotionless front-line?”

For a few moments, Daisy was just stunned in silence. She knew that her cold nature could rival that of Selene’s, but she never wanted Eve to think that was all she truly was. Against her will, the guard she held so people didn’t see her emotions dropped and there was a flash of hurt in her eyes. What was she supposed to say to that? Eve was right in that she wore this mask, but she was wrong in that it was solely proof that she was afraid to change her ways. Of course she was, but that wasn’t all she was. She had been hurt by losing those she cared about before. The mask was a way for her to ensure she wouldn’t be hurt anymore, but that wouldn’t be true either. 

“You have no idea what you’re talking about.” Her voice cracked, but she cleared it, trying to reign it in. “You really don’t trust me, after all I’ve tried to do for you, after the trust I put in you?” She didn’t get why Eve’s distrust hurt her so bad, until she realized that it was probably because she considered Eve a friend, and knowing that she didn’t trust her… it hurt.
