The DREAM Program, Inc. builds communities of families and college students that empower youth from low-income housing neighborhoods to recognize their options, make informed decisions, and achieve their dreams. Since 2004, Camp DREAM has been operating on 50 acres in the woods of Fletcher, VT. Hundreds of youth from across Vermont have benefited from the many activities Camp DREAM offers, including swimming, gardening, canoeing, hiking, teambuilding, and much more.

No youth has ever had to pay to attend Camp DREAM.

Since 2014 will be Camp DREAM’s Tenth Year, we want to do something special to celebrate this milestone. Our project is the completion of our Interpretive Nature Trail, which will include an Environmental Education Hut. The trail stretches throughout the property, where visitors can see deciduous forests, salamanders in vernal pools, and the habitat of loons and ducks along the shoreline of Metcalf Pond. The Hut would be located at the end of the trail and would allow participants a space to gather, learn, touch, and explore natural objects that they encountered on their hike. Most importantly, this project would connect the R and the E in DREAM: Recreation and Education. Camp DREAM is open to our neighbors in Fletcher and is a gathering space for the community. This project will have a positive impact on 300+ community members and youth, allowing them to exercise their bodies and their minds, and will be an excellent component of Camp DREAM's Tenth Year.

UVM DREAM Catamountain Challenge!

The 1st Annual Catamountain Classic is a community event involving about forty University of Vermont clubs, organizations and groups on campus! The goal is to hike the entirety of the Long Trail in one weekend! Each organization will be assigned a predetermined section of the 273-mile Long Trail.

And, they are so close to their $1,500 goal!

Money raised will go towards a scholarship for a DREAM Program youth (www.dreamprogram.org) to attend a NOLS or Outward Bound course in loving memory of Avi Kurganoff, an avid Outing Club Leader, Kayak Clubber, DREAM Mentor, Alternative Spring Break member and a member of the Dewey House for Civic Engagement who passed away earlier this year. Avi was an adventurer who impacted nearly every person he met and wanted to devote himself to working with underprivileged youth.

DREAM, UVM Outing Club, the Dewey House, and Outward Bound want to work together to provide an annual scholarship (or two) to a low-income youth from DREAM (www.dreamprogram.org) to participate in a summer Outward Bound program.  You can help!

This is to honor the legacy of an amazing young man, Avi Kurganoff, an inspiring UVM sophomore, Outing Club member, and DREAM mentor.  Avi passed away unexpectedly last year. Avi had a passion for exposing at-risk youth from low socio-economic backgrounds to nature as a means of connection and exploration. Before his untimely death, he had begun to develop an outdoor program for youth that would be led by UVM Outing Club members. Youth would participate in various wilderness explorations (hikes, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, camping, etc.). In honor of Avi, various people from the UVM Outing Club, Dewey House and DREAM are developing wilderness trips each semester for our DREAM teens. We want to see his vision realized. The first excursion is the Catamountain Classic where different UVM organizations are hiking the entire Long Trail on September 29th (in smaller divided portions).  Funds raised will go to sponsor the first DREAM Teen participant of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound (www.HIOBS.org)on an amazing and life-changing trip

While at UVM he was extremely invested in the Dewey House for Civic Engagement, the Outing Club and DREAM.

The money raised by the Catamountain Classic is being matched by Outward Bound, to create a scholarship fund for DREAM teens in our New England Programs to go on Outward Bound trips!!!! I cannot express to you how inspired we as DREAMers feel to be a part of developing/planning this. The scholarship will be around for many years to come.
