Amusement and embarrassment both flooded her stomach, her cheeks growing hot. Not bothering what looks her classmates were casting her way, knowing they had teasing smirks as they looked at her. As soon as she spotted her brother, she immediately walked through the crowd and then finally up to George. Adjusting the strap of her book bag to rest more comfortably on her shoulder, there were a million thoughts racing through her head and she wanted to get right to the point. “Even if you did find some kind of potion I missed packing up, you can’t pretend there hasn’t been worse that you’ve left behind in places,” Ginny rolled her eyes, a playful smirk lifting her lips. 

With arms now crossed, the amused look stayed within her features, “So, my dear awfully handsome and intelligent big brother, speaking of having some words, can I talk to you?” Brown eyes peered around them quickly, ensuring no one else was eavesdropping, “A bit more private if that’s okay? Don’t want anyone else hearing what mischievous prank I have in mind.” She spoke with a low voice but her eyes were twinkling with a sly expression, something that was so rare to see nowadays. It reminded her of how things were before the war. Throwing and loving a good prank had been something that she had been handed down by Fred and George, and she only hoped that George would agree to it, because who else would appreciate what she had in mind? Or go along with it at all. 

“Oh you didn’t miss anything, I just wanted your attention.” George chuckled slightly jumping down and looking at her for a moment. It still struck him as odd that she was almost grown up now, well in many ways she was, but he supposed it was just the film of seeing her small that got to him. He couldn’t imagine what Charlie thought. 

He’s eyebrow went up slightly as he tilted his head at the question and a smile on his face. “Why honesty and flattery will get you everywhere. After al you are my favorite sister.” 

He didn’t point out the fact that to his knowledge she was his only sister, but regardless he held out his arm for her to grab onto. “Now lets get some place out of the public’s ear and you can tell me about it. And if there isn’t a prank I’ll be seriously disappointed and I will have to promote someone else as my favorite sister which will just break everyone’s heart.”

“Are you serious? Fine. George Weasley. Unless you want my middle name too which you’re going to have to get out of my mum. And twenty-one.”  

Tell us if you were directly or indirectly involved in the Battle of Hogwarts in May 1998 and how you were involved.  “What kind of bull - obviously.” He looked around and tapped his ear as he did so. “What you think all of this is just to make me look more attractive? And you know damn well what I was doing.” 

While attending the memorial, were you there for the whole duration? You won’t get penalized for telling the truth since the event was mandatory, we just want to create the most accurate picture of where everyone was. If you weren’t consistently at the memorial, can you give us times and locations of when you were not directly at the memorial? If you didn’t attend the Memorial, can you tell us where you were? Please take as much as you need to think about this information.

George didn’t want to snap completely but it was getting harder and harder not too. “I was there the whole time,  but I also remember standing in front of my brother’s grave with my other family members. I don’t know if I was there the entire time or not but I’m sure you can ask my mom.” 

Could you provide a list of who you remember talking to that day?

”No. To many of them to count. Recon I spoke mostly to my friends and family but I saw a lot of others there too.  Was there anything suspicious that caught your attention during the Memorial? Such as someone acting strangely or just anything that was off in general? 

“It’s a war memorial mate. Everyone was acting strange. Especially when you see the named of kids up there. . And no I was mostly focused on seeing my brother thanks. ” 

Did you hear from the Lover of the Light? Have you been in contact with them or have you perhaps seen them? Did you know about their identity before today or before the Memorial, and if so, when where you told?

“What the -yes him and I are clearly mates.” He rolled his eyes knowing that he could get in trouble he shook his head. “I didn’t. Now if you’d excuse me I have to go back to my weeping mother. Believe it or not some of us weren’t here just because we were ordered.”

She laughed, regarding him fondly. “No, you’re not.” George had always been kind to her and he had a way of smiling that made her want to say, let’s go on adventure. Even when he wasn’t smiling, she could see the lines where his smile usually was. Though she hoped recently that he’d been giving himself plenty of time to not smile. 

“Oh, I was pondering something, a decision,” she said slowly, mind already drifting back, considering. “You might not want to talk about this and that’s perfectly fine. It’s awful that noone warns you that one day even good memories might hurt. But, how did you and Fred make the decision to leave school and open your store?”

Luna had a sneaking suspicion that she had already made her decision. All of this was just her trying to defend it to herself. She had known it was what she wanted, needed, the moment Unspeakable Carroll had spoken to her. Except that, according her sons, she made a different decision once. In their future, she had become a Magizoologist. Had she not been offered the position in that timeline or had she turned it down, turned it down because she knew the places curiosity could take a person like her. Was she cursing herself to the same fate as her mother?

“Good. Wouldn’t want to hurt anything.” He gave the other a smile as he looked over at her. His face was tilted slightly so he could hear her as clearly as he could. It wasn’t as if he was fully deaf in his bad ear, but he was having to hear over ringing. 

His eyebrow raised slightly as she started her speech and he shook his head.

“Don’t mind talking about him - to you know,” He made a vague gesture not really knowing what to describe it as. Of course they were a sort of family now. Maybe not by blood, but war did a lot to bind people together. If she had been careless maybe he would have stopped the conversation -but her question intrigued him. 

“Well I guess we decided schooling just wasn’t necessary anymore,” He chuckled slightly. “That and that old toad needed to be miserable didn’t she? That and we had already started on making our pranks, and - and it made people happy didn’t it?” He smiled softly at the memory. After all neither twin had really wanted to hurt people. Well most of the time. 

It was to make them laugh. Make them smile through a dark time. 

“Guess we knew that we’d always want to make people laugh. That and - well we had a friend who believed in us and funded the project so after we turned of age there really wasn’t a point in waiting. That and if we had we were pretty sure Dad would try to get us into a ministry job, which would just be the most absurd thing.”

Lily was aware that it was late. Past curfew, probably. She didn’t have a watch with her and asking the time meant acknowledging it was late. She had left for a late quidditch practice and only went down when the last students disappeared from the grounds. And now she was on her way back, deep in thoughts and probably about to walk into someone because she wasn’t paying any attention.  It wasn’t that bad, as it turned out. As she walked through one of the courtyards on her way inside, someone seemed to appear in front of her at random from behind a pillar. She tried to steady her heartbeat as curious eyes studied the not-stranger in front of her. Someone with red hair was likely not to be a stranger, one of many lessons of the time distortion. She considered momentarily that he may be Fabian or Gideon, but then she heard him talk. Everything fell into place then. “No way,” she said sarcastically while her mind was still processing who was standing in front of her. “I had no idea. I forgot curfew existed.” She grinned as well, crinkling her nose when George called her kid. “Lily, actually,” she corrected him. “Lily Potter, your not-so-future niece.” Obviously not, because her father was dead. Not something she wanted to get into or think about. Not everyone agreed with her logic and she couldn’t exactly hit the younger version ( the other dimension version in the way she believed things to have gone ) of her secretly favorite uncle with a Bat-Bogey hex and run off.  “So what are you up to? Checking on your siblings?“ she guessed. “Ginny seemed a little upset. I haven’t seen Ron yet.“ Actually she had avoided him like she avoided many red haired people. It must be confusing for them to have to deal with her with the knowledge that Harry was dead and she didn’t want to have to constantly remind them of it.

“Curfew my dear future niece is only a suggestion. Like speed limits on brooms and crossing aging lines under age.” He chuckled at a joke he wasn’t sure that the other would get. Still he smiled at the girl. 

“Lily? Really. so I’m assuming you must be Ginny’s kid. If not then someone in my family has a helleva lot of explaining to do.” 

He chuckled slightly as he sat on the stoop and patted the place next to him. 

“Oh I’m not that clever. I’ll tell you a secret, the most interesting people happen to be right here at Hogwarts right now. Because of that I have the urge to come and bother them. So why don’t you sit down and tell me about yourself. So I don’t have to wait for the not-so-distant future to talk to you. Besides now you can learn about your favorite uncle when he is still young and more handsome. Although I’m still counting on being handsome later as well. ” 

Besides being curious he couldn’t imagine her coming back in time to find her father dead. It seemed the least bit in his opinion to talk to the girl, and maybe be a little bit of comfort even if he didn’t know their full relationship. After all, he knew that no matter what he would still be their for his family so they must have had at least a small relationship. Even if it was just saying hi at Christmas.

Usually, she would’ve seen George around the castle throughout the day since he seemed to be everywhere at the same time, but oddly enough, he was nowhere to be found that day. Hermione’s brown eyes were flickering around the courtyard, seeing if she could detect her redheaded friend behind a wall or on a bench she hadn’t looked at yet. Her search had started off in the Gryffindor Common Room and when she noticed that he wasn’t there, she’d continued looking for him the library, the great hall and now the wide courtyard of the school.

The girl sighed when she scanned the faces of the few students there and George wasn’t among them. She adjusted the strap of her bag before crossing the courtyard to leave the castle. While she thought of all the places George could possibly be at, her path led her past the Greenhouses and down the hill toward the Great Lake. Yet again, her eyes scanned the scenery for the tall silhouette of the Weasley and just when she was about to turn around, she spotted him sitting on one of the footbridges of the lake.

“How long have you been sitting here?” she softly said as soon as she was close enough for him to hear her.

George didn’t know what had brought on this bout of sadness. After all on his birthday he had managed a smile and even joked. Maybe it’s because he knew it was what Fred would have wanted. 

Still it was the bouts of loneness he couldn’t seam to shake. It felt like being in a quiet room for the first time in his life, and the ringing in his ear didn’t help. 

He almost didn’t register Hermione until she was near him. Quickly his face changed, not really because he felt the need to hide, but more that she had lost too. What good would it bring to wallow in his own misery with someone who was just as miserable. 

“Not long,” He lied as he stretched his limbs. “Just reckoning how fast dear old Mcgonagall would come if I jumped in and tried to ride the Giant Squid. Care to take a bet?” His eyes almost twinkled as his smile filled his face.

George was getting frustrated as he saw the bobbing heads of what looked like an entire world of red-headed children. Seriously the future seemed to be flooded with them. How was he supposed to find the one sister he had? It was awful. 

Sighing he decided that climbing up was exactly what he needed to spot his sister. Luckily from what he could tell she didn’t look too much like their mum. 

Spotting Ginny finally he put his wand to his throat and when he talked it amplified. “Ginerva Weasley your awfully handsome and throughly intelligent big brother would like to have some words for you. Especially about that potion you left on the counter - ” He almost pulled off the serious face he tried but it cracked into a smile and he couldn’t continue the joke.  “Merlin, I was this close.”

George’s hat was tipped as he looked out on the lake. Part of him could still hear Fred daring him to jump in and try and ride the Giant Squid. He might have once, well he nearly did if it hadn’t been for Snape pulling his arm back. 

He was lost in a memory that didn’t hurt so badly when he saw a shimmer of blonde near him. Raising his eyebrow he looked down slightly and saw Luna. 

He hadn’t really been close to her, at least when she was in school. After she was in Ginny’s grade. Still he had always been at least fond of the girl. More so after the war. 

For a moment he let the silence sit, not wanting to break the quiet nature. But even then he couldn’t keep it up for long. 

“I’m not standing on some creature am I, Luna? Or did you spot something out in the lake? You’re awfully focused”

George couldn’t wait for the youngest in his family finally graduate. He hated being here, but being to scared to leave he was caught in a limbo. Officially he might have been here to look at the shell of Zonko’s, but even that place made his heart ache as he caught his reflection in the mirror. 

Still he decided that if he was going to be miserable he might as well go to the school. After all the boy had never been alone for much more then a moment in time, both because of his large family and his twin. It gave him way to much time to think. 

So when he entered the school after showing that of course he wasn’t about to hurt anyone, he couldn’t help but look down the halls. He snorted when he saw one of his pranks. 

“Good to know that the swamps still here. Thought they would have cleaned it up by now.” He wasn’t talking to anyone in particular, but out of the corner of his eye he caught long red hair and spun around think it might be his sister. 

“Ah sorry. You look like my sister - well not really but the hair.”

George didn’t like seeing Hogwarts anymore, a sort of dichotomy that he wasn’t used to. After all he had grand memories there, but it was cut short by the harshness he had seen. After all no matter how many times he closed his eyes, he saw them. 

Still he climbed up the steps a small smile put on his face, and perhaps if you didn’t know him he did look happy. After all he was trying, trying to be better. Trying to be - well Fred if he was honest. His twin had always been just a little more full of life then he was. 

Still he couldn’t help but watch his smile grow as he spotted a red-haired girl. Knowing full well it must be someone related to him, or at least having an inclination he snuck around the pillar he had reached and waited a beat. 

“Oi. Don’t you know you aren’t supposed to be out in the grounds this time of day?” He tried to give his voice some authority, and it might have worked if he wasn’t grinning. 

“Just teasing kid.”
