people took the “fiction doesn’t affect reality” philosophy and turned it into “reality doesn’t affect fiction” which is plainly incorrect. like believe it or not books/movies/tv shows/comics/video games/etc are ALWAYS influenced by the culture in which they were made. and so is your reaction to it. the way you interact with media made by/featuring people of color or women or other marginalized groups can be influenced by your own implicit biases and that of the person who created it. you don’t get a free pass to be racist or misogynistic in fandom just because “these characters aren’t real”.

it's really really funny to me that like "people under 18 might consume porn and that's generally fine actually" is some shocking take. like were you not also young once. is it not normal to develop sexually around the age of 12. is it not normal to experience sexual thoughts as a teen. like it's fucking absurd that we're suggesting mass surveillance of children to ensure they will never see a boob ever outside of a classroom instead of just teaching children how to interact with adult content safely. you're just arguing for abstinence again, plugging your ears going "lalala" when someone tells you that kids should learn about sex or they will have sex in worse more dangerous ways

really love that of helen in the odyssey is 1) emotionally aware enough to notice how incredibly painful it is for telemachus to hear stories and possible news about his father 2) kind enough to do something immediately to make the situation less painful 3) not confident enough in her own ability to raise telemachus’ spirits with kind words or a familiar embrace and so 4) decides to drug him out of his senses so he can no longer experience emotion. like I personally would not do this but you have to respect the thought process
