ABOUT THE BLOG

This is a fan blog devoted to the Danganronpa pairing Kazuichi Souda/Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, otherwise known as Kuzusouda.

The aim of this blog is to serve as a hub for Kuzusouda content all across Tumblr and the wider web. These days, this is mostly achieved by reblogging any Kuzusouda content I can find, although I like to post my own thoughts and headcanons relating to the pairing as well.

None of the art or edits showcased on this blog belong to me unless stated otherwise. (The current banner is, in fact, my edit.)

I accept all asks made in good faith, including headcanon prompts, drabble/ficlet prompts and general questions about my take on Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko's relationship.

This blog welcomes ALL headcanons and takes on Kuzusouda. Although I have my personal preferences when it comes to Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi's LGBTQ+ identities, I'll gladly reblog Kuzusouda content that portrays them with different identities even if I personally disagree with them. My headcanons are my own and I don't expect anyone to like or agree with them, but I do expect basic respect.

This blog also welcomes queerplatonic Kuzusouda!

I'll try to be more diligent about tagging from now on. Namely, any posts that include other ships/characters along with Kuzusouda will have those ships/characters tagged as well. There's also #kuzusoudacule for poly ships that include Kuzusouda.

Okay but speaking of Kazuichi I'm finding myself very attached to the "aroallo Kazuichi" headcanon, especially because I feel like some of his experiences, when looked at from an aroallo lens, are a lot like my own.

I like to think his "crush" on Sonia was really a concoction of aesthetic and/or sexual attraction, and desperation for a romantic partner to fit in with amatonormative society. (If you enjoy the "transfem Kazuichi" headcanon, gender envy could be involved too.) He is AuDHD and nebularomantic, possibly demi or grey too, the kind of demi/grey who experiences romantic love very rarely. He's very desperate for a deep emotional connection and intimacy but doesn't yet realise that a romantic relationship isn't the only way to get that (he'd love a FWB QPR though.)

Once he comes to accept himself and enter his "fuck amatonormativity" era he'd 100% enter a QPR with Fuyuhiko, whom I've always headcanoned as alloromantic demisexual. Or perhaps they'd enter a romantic relationship with the understanding that Kazuichi doesn't, and may not ever, love Fuyuhiko romantically. Idk, I have a few different ideas of how to write an aro-ified Kuzusouda haha

Oh hey, Kuzusouda is now included in the top 10 most-tagged ships for SDR2 on AO3, as long as you specifically include M/M ships!

If we exclude M/F, DR1 and V3, it rises up to #5, or #4 if we discount platonic Komahina. (Don't mind the platonic Hinanami sneaking in as well.)

Granted, these numbers are probably inflated by the sheer number of Kuzusouda ficlets and drabbles I've written over the years, but it's still pretty significant and I personally fail to be convinced that Kuzusouda is a rarepair with each passing day.

I believe that Kuzusouda is a mid-tier ship as far as popularity goes. It's not as popular as Kuzupeko or Mahiyoko (Komahina is in its own tier), but it's not quite as rare as, say, Gundam/Mikan or Peko/Sonia. It lives in the same spot as most Hajime ships, I'd say, along with other decently-popular same-gender ships such as Nanamiki and Soniaki.

It's a pretty good spot to be, really.

“‘Hiko?”

The sound of his nickname from the man in his arms anchors Fuyuhiko back to consciousness, just moments before he would've succumbed to sleep. “Yeah?”

“D’you ever think about how…” There's a pause as Kazuichi searches for the words. “About how lucky we are? Fuck, that sounds bad, we went through a lot, I mean… we’re both here, but, y’know, if things had gone differently…”

Kazuichi doesn't have to finish his sentence for Fuyuhiko to know what he's getting at, even with the haze of fatigue clouding his thoughts. “Yeah,” he says softly. He holds Kazuichi tighter in a wordless gesture of gratitude.

“I’m thinking about what would've happened to us in another timeline,” Kazuichi continues. “Like if something happened to change the whole course of the killing game. Maybe we would've died. Or maybe… I would've killed you. Or… or you would've killed me.”

Fuyuhiko narrows his eyes, barely suppressing a shudder. “And in what world would I do that?”

“I dunno… maybe you had no other choice, or maybe you thought I was the mastermind or something… depends on what would've changed.”

“You’re thinkin’ way too hard about this. Those other versions of us, if they even exist, have their own bullshit to reckon with. We are right where we’re meant to be, and I ain't gonna take that for granted.”

Kazuichi considers this. “I guess you're right,” he says slowly. “I just… sometimes I still wonder if we even deserve this.”

There's a beat of silence. “Yeah,” Fuyuhiko acknowledges. “I know what you mean.”

He doesn't know what he could say to assuage Kazuichi's worries, let alone his own, so he kisses his forehead and holds him ever closer with no intention of letting him go—for in this timeline, Kazuichi is his, and he is Kazuichi’s.

Sometimes, Sonia can't help but wonder if she's been watching too many BL dramas lately. Or perhaps it’s simply her wish for Kazuichi Souda to get out of her hair once and for all. Maybe she's reading too much into his sidelong glances at Fuyuhiko, the way he'd sling his arm around him without a care in the world, how Fuyuhiko’s cheeks would redden, without fail, whenever he did so.

Is there really something there? Or does she want Kazuichi to want Fuyuhiko more than he wants her?

There's a strangeness, a spot of immaturity, in Kazuichi’s behaviour that leads her to wonder if he even really liked her in that way. He says that he does, that he wants nothing more than to be with her, yet he treats her more like a prize to be won than a person.

“Men,” Mahiru would tell her with a weary sigh. “They're all like that.”

There's truth to her words, Sonia knows, but she can't bring herself to fully agree—not when it comes to Kazuichi, anyway. She wouldn't be able to describe it if she tried, but she senses a fakeness in Kazuichi’s advances, as though he's projecting a persona that would be socially-acceptable to the worst sorts of men. Everything about him, from his bleached hair to his bravado, feels forced, as though he’s trying to prove something.

If only he would be honest, both to himself and others, about what he really wants. She can't make him smile, genuinely smile, the way Fuyuhiko does.

Still… she can't assume his feelings or intentions. She can't read his mind. Maybe she's in over her head, doing the same thing he'd be doing towards her, if his feelings for her were genuine. Maybe she just wants Fuyuhiko to be happy, too; she never fails to notice the deep scowl that mars his soft, boyish face whenever her name leaves Kazuichi’s lips. He's sensible enough to discourage Kazuichi's more inappropriate expressions of interest, but Sonia wonders if there's more to it than that.

…no. She really needs to lay off the BL.

Peko leans forward with interest. “What makes you think so?”

Fuyuhiko hesitates for a moment. “He completes me. He makes me feel whole. Nobody else can do that.”

Peko ignores the part of her that’d hoped she was the one to make Fuyuhiko feel that way. “I see. I understand how you feel.”

“Still,” he continues, “he's my friend first, and that’ll never change.”

“Do you plan on confessing to him?”

He shrugs. “Not a priority. But maybe one day.”

“I see… I wish you the best of luck.”
