a friend of mine a few days ago recalled upon a video of him doing his “bounces”, you know during the start of the back half of day, or fuel, or cyanide or whatever, she said

“I’ll always remember him this way.”

and I think I will too.

I think in the moments when he comes to mind, I see him, old in body, but so, unfailingly young in spirit. he is ageless and timeless yet he is my old man, my anchor, rusted and scraped.

I love the wrinkles that grow on his face when he smiles so much that it looks like it hurts.

I love how he makes me cringe, and almost embarrasses me when he starts talking about his wig or whatever.

I love how despite it all, I’m fortunate enough to know, and have seen, that he literally cannot live without his music.

Nickname or not, he is “Papa” to me. He is something so familiar, so warm, and so gentle.

Happy birthday big man. Thanks for a hell of a year.
