At this point, Sakura couldn’t even muster any words to say. Her own breathing was shuddered as she looked to the ground. Tears fell from her face. She wasn’t lying.

Seeing Sakura’s face confirmed everything, why would she even joke about something like this? The full gravity of the situation struck Wonder like a tidal wave, she couldn’t deny it even if she wanted to anymore...

Angie and Ventus is dead.

The grief she is experiencing is greater than anything she has ever felt, the feeling it’s giving her makes her insides feel as cold as ice.

She needs to get away, she needs to go back.

With a choked sob the Dragonair turns and tail and flees, making a bee-line for the entrance and bursting out of the home.

“I…I’m afraid. I can’t sense either of them…I’m afraid they might both be…” 

She couldn’t bring herself to say it. She doesn’t want to admit that her sister could be dead. Or that Wonder’s father is gone as well. Yet the implications are there.

Wonder freezes, her eyes widening as she digests what the Gardevoir said. Ever so slowly she begins to back away. “No...” She whispers, her head shaking from side to side. “No...”

It can’t be right, Angie said that she would make him better!

“She said...that...” She says slowly, tears beginning to form in her eyes. “You...” The Dragonair clenches her eyes shut, her teeth gritting together. “You’re lying! You have to be!”

Sakura was quiet for a moment as she tried desperately to sense Angie, but to no avail. Her hands trembled, and tears started forming. She turned to face wonder. “It…it’s Angie…I can’t..I can’t sense her anymore. I can’t sense neither her nor…your father…I don’t..”

No...that can’t be right... It has to be something wrong with Sakura’s ability to sense things, it has to be!

The Dragonair slowly turns to look at the Gardevoir, her expression frozen in one of disbelief. “What...what are you saying?” She whispers, dreading the possible answer.

What little strength she had left had finally left her body, as she collapsed onto the ground. Her breathing was shallow, her vision blurry, and blood leaking from her mouth. Without the shadow power, her sword changed back into her usual machete, which now stuck out of the machine’s abdomen. Though she had a hard time seeing, she could tell it wasn’t moving anymore. It was over. The machine had been stopped. And her friend was finally free.

Ventus…you’re free now. I hope you’re able to find peace. Ow…I can’t even move anymore. I just might be joining you… I can’t even call out to anyone. This sucks… sorry sis. Sorry Zhang. Doesn’t look like I’m coming back alive from this one. At the ranch, Sakura had been cooking with Wonder. She lost track of Ventus’s emotional signal over a week ago. It had vanished much faster than she was told, but she never revealed it since she had hope that Angie would succeed. Since then she’s been doing what she could to help wonder cope with the whole situation. Today, she was sensing Angie’s emotional signal, and while cooking, she dropped the pan she had. Her eyes went wide. She had lost track of her sister’s signal.

The feeling of dread never left Wonder, in fact...it continued to grow. With each passing day of not hearing anything from Angie her fears for the worst increase even further, making her nearly sick to her stomach.

When Sakura dropped the pan it startles the Dragonair incredibly, as in she fully recoils with her eyes clenching shut as if something were about to strike her. After several moments she slowly opens her eyes and looks at the Gardevoir warily, the look on her face REALLY doesn’t sit well with her.

“...Sakura?” She says quietly, as if afraid to speak. “...What is wrong?”

“Ghh…No, you’re not…getting up from this.”

With all her might, she pushes the blade as hard as she can, trying to pierce through the thick hide and wiring. She ends up coughing up more blood as she does so, showing she’s reaching her limit. Angie pushes whatever power she has left through her blade, to give it some extra strength. When she does, her Shadow form finally dissipates.

With the extra force, the blade pierces completely through. It slices past several of the machine’s processors, but most importantly...it pierces the special container that holds what’s left of the machine’s brain.

The Genesect’s mind blanks, every thought vanishing in an instant. After several seconds the legs of the machine shakes before it collapses, the ash surrounding its body stirring from the impact.

The only sound heard is the faint humming of its power core and the breathing of the spent Gardevoir.

Her own death seemed certain for a moment. That one misstep is all it took for her own reflexes to kick in. Angie had ducked under the oncoming claw, as his body went over her. He was finally vulnerable. With one fell movement, Angie thrusts her sword as hard as she could, straight for the Genesect’s abdomen.

With any luck, this would be the end of a long, hard fought battle. 

Despite how hard the machine’s shell is, the blade manages to pierce the metal and sink into the abdomen. However it doesn’t go all the way through, for it eventually stops half-way in.

The weapon struck several of its systems, specifically the one controlling its senses such as vision and hearing. Its vision goes black, making it blind to the world. A distorted, static-like sound escapes it as the machine slowly tries to stand.

He’s backing up. He’s trying to get away from her. She’s finally getting the upper hand, especially with the cannon not firing. As Angie was about to stand up, she felt a retching feeling inside her. Her eye twitched as she spewed out a mouthful of black blood. Her eye began leaking the same blood as well. A side effect from using her corruption for too long.

I can’t hold this form much longer. I need to finish this now Her body felt like giving up after that. It was a struggle just to stand back up. Though her will and stubbornness to save her friend kept her going. She got closer to the Genesect, hearing the sound from his chest. His core. “You know…it just hit me. We’re probably both going to die any moment now…the question is, what’s going to happen first? Are you going to let me put you down easily…or is your core going to explode?”

Survival......that is its priority. Its primary goal is to preserve itself, so that it may carry out its other goals. However due to how unstable its power core is and the damage it’s sustaining, that goal is beginning to appear more and more improbable. However the A.I. is persistent, no matter how much is against the Genesect it shall try to fulfill its programming.

As the Gardevoir takes a step closer it acts, in a flash it charges at her with a crackling claw aimed for her chest. The extreme suddeness would make it near impossible to act, however something wrong happened. A sudden surge from its core causes its body to react in a way it didn’t foresee, its legs lock up for less than a second before returning to normal.

That time fraction of time will be its undoing however, the sudden temporary cease caused it to stumble its aim becoming way off as its claw flies right over the Gardevoir’s head. This all happened in only a second, with no control over its momentum it slams into the ground with its back facing the sky.

Finally, some noticeable damage. Though her sword missed one of his legs, he’s been crippled. His reactions won’t be as swift without one of his legs. Though the excess use of her own powers was taking its toll on her body, on top of the damage she’s already taken.

Picking herself up, she fired at his other leg again, hoping to completely immobilize him. “Stay still. It’ll be over soon…”

The machine stumbles to the right, barely dodging the incoming projectile. The warning signs intensify in its vision, a loud humming and crackling sound now radiating from its chest.

It aims its cannon at the Gardevoir, however nothing seems to happen. Realizing that its weapon is now offline it starts backing away, a static-like sound escaping its speaker.

As the dust clears, Angie’s not within any visible area. Shadow stains on the ground even show where she was standing before the blast occurred. To anyone around, it would seem she was completely obliterated. 

In truth, she had only barely escaped the cone of destruction. Blood flew off of her face as she dropped down from above, sword at the ready. Her robe was nonexistent at this point. She dropped down to impale one leg with her sword, and blast the other with a shadow psycho bullet.

Despite the alarms in its head going off, the machine quickly detects the Gardevoir from above and leaps back. However the beam it unleashed still scrambled its systems, so the psycho bullet managed to strike its intended target.

The projectile burns a hole into its leg, although not clean through...it is deep enough to cause some serious damage. The Genesect had to put more of its weight into its other leg to prevent it from collapsing.

It limps back, its clawing crackling to life with energy. The warnings start intensifying, specifically alerting the A.I. that its core is beginning to overload.

Seeing him immediately fly down and destroy her shadow ball, she teleports again. This time, she appears right in his face, her whole body glowing. The glow gets brighter and brighter until it’s blinding, as she unleashes her Dazzling Gleam. While doing so, she thrusts her sword at one of his eyes.

Just as the Gardevoir appears and attacks, that is when the machine reacts. It immediately fires, unleashing the power it has been charging.

A loud roar shakes the earth as the weapon unleashes its stored energy, the actual attack hasn’t even left the cannon when it unleashed a powerful shockwave. The Dazzling Gleam distorts before fading due to the superior force, not to mention the shockwave acted as an almost unstoppable wall that flung into the Gardevoir.

Not even a second after the shockwave a giant beam of raw blue power is unleashed, the sheer size of the destructive laser being larger than the Genesect itself. Ash is immediately vaporized from simply being within close proximity of the beam, the machine keeps this up for several seconds before ceasing.

A loud beeping sound radiates from the machine as its legs wobble, its red optics flashing as various warning signs fill its vision.

He’s…retreating?? This means he’ll go on to cause more destruction. This won’t do. Angie fired off her condensed super Shadow Ball once more before teleporting herself. A trail of black smoke followed Genesect, even appearing before him, as she reappeared in front of him with her sword drawn.

“ W̢he̷r̀e͞ do yǫu͡ t͠h̶įn̵k͟ y̶o̡u’̛re g̵o͝in̴g̡? ̕Go̸in̸g t҉ó c͡au͢s̛e͏ m͢ǫr҉e̶ ̛d͠e͜str̸u̶c̴tio͏n?͢ Tha͏t̶’s̴ no̕t ͠g̵ǫìng͘ to̴ hap̢pen!̷ ”

She swung her blade right at him once more. With her sword coming from one side, and the condensed shadow ball from the other, she feels he’ll take damage either way.

The machine doesn’t even stop to think, it realized the situation it was in so it took the appropriate action. It immediately angled itself and dived straight towards the earth, avoiding the swing of the Gardevoir.

Several slots on its body open, not a second later dozens upon dozens of cracking sounds fill the air as the machine activates its Magnet Bombs. The cloud of tiny spheres immediately lock onto the Shadow Ball and collide, the explosions forcing the Shadow Ball itself to grow unstable before exploding as well.

The Genesect reaches the ground before transforming, the force of its landing causing the ash to fly into the air. A screeching sound radiates from its cannon as it charges, preparing for when the Gardevoir reveals herself.

Angie regained her composure when her attack was deflected. She looked at the Genesect head on.

“A threat? Fine. But tell me. How’s that arm of yours feeling? If you had nerves, they’d probably be numb from blocking 2 attacks from my sword. Not to mention that gash. And how’s your cannon? I know that took damage earlier. Why else would you stop using your flames?” She raised her sword, pointing it at him, but more specifically pointing it at one of his eyes. “You’re fighting a losing battle. I’m going to tear you apart, piece by piece”

The A.I. does a brief scan on its systems to survey the current condition of the body

During its system check the Genesect also scanned the threat before it, the data it received was...not promising. The fight with this threat would be too costly, so it would be wise to take a different action than to confront it.

The machine jumps into the air and transforms into its Flight Mode, it quickly angles itself towards the sky before blasting off.

Angie took notice of its reactions. If anything she figured her boost in power must be overloading its sensors. She got closer to Genesect, her sword ready, pure focus and determination in her eyes. 

As she dashed forward, she disappeared from view, leaving behind a small trail of black dust. Angie came up behind him, thrusting her sword at his abdomen.

The machine continued to strike its head as Angie charged, even when she vanished it still focused on itself. Just before the blade struck...something happened, the Genesect stiffens before one of its claws become shrouded in yellow energy. In a blur its body spins before sweeping the blade of energy aside, sparks of energy showering the area from the brief contact.

The machine turns to face her, its eyes shining brightly.

The humming sound greatly intensifies from the machine as every ounce of its power is channeled into its systems, an incredibly loud buzzing sound now radiates from its cannon.

“You are a threat.” The machine says in a distorted, emotionless voice.

[INITIATING_COMBAT_PROTOCOL]

“You will be destroyed.”

The shockwave was more than enough to knock her frail body about. After rolling, she slammed full force into the ground from the blast, hitting her head in the process.

Clutching the back of her head in pain, she sat herself up, looking at him. Angie realized he reacted differently than he has been this whole time. That must have been his self defense AI or something. Either way…that really hurt. Ugh, my head is pounding. Angie slowly picked herself up, obviously hurting. She reached into her bag, hoping to grab one of the berries she brought, only to pull out half a crushed Oran berry. Regardless, she ate it quick, which healed some of her minor wounds. “Genesect…or whatever you’d prefer. I am the queen of shadows. The explorer who will discover all sorts of things in this world. I’m Angelica Durant and I’m not going to lose to a machine who stole the life of my best friend!” Her aura flared to life as she shouted out, both her psychic and shadow powers syncing together as she formed a new blade out of her own psychic energy.

Immediately warning messages start flashing in its vision as the Gardevoir’s energy levels increase, the words ‘Threat Level Elevating!’ being the most numerous.

Suddenly the Genesect flinches, another distorted growl escaping it as it feels...something... Something has disturbed the rage it’s feeling, whatever it is...it’s not pleasant...not pleasant at all...

It takes a step back, its claws immediately start striking its head in a poor attempt to rid whatever has entered its mind.

The blade was caught in the blast, frozen in an instant. Once again Angie moved out of the way, losing her now frozen sword. 

Now annoyed, she places her hands together, channeling a large amount of energy into it. As she opens her hands, a massively corrupt Shadow Ball has formed. With a small wave of her hands, it shrinks down to the size of a small bolt, yet its power could still be felt. She fires it off, and it appears to be homing in on its target: Ventus’ abdomen

When the machine landed on the ground, its optics lock onto the incoming projectile. The readings on its HUD immediately warn it that the projectile will cause severe damage if it were to hit its intended target, however seeing that the Genesect is in no mental state to properly respond...something else immediately acted when the late-Ventus would not.

[INITIATING_EMERGENCY_ACTION_OVERRIDE]

Without its command the cannon immediately locks on the projectile, the humming sound intensifying ten-fold as it starts channeling power directly from the Genesect’s core. Within a second it unleashes a gigantic, powerful beam of raw plasma at the compressed Shadow Ball. The two forces collide, not a second later a massive explosion soon followed by a shockwave shakes everything.

Ash is sent flying into the air from the force, even the Genesect was knocked off its fleet and sent tumbling a great distance. After eventually landing it slowly stands up, the humming sound dying down from its cannon.

[THREAT_ELIMINATED]

[SHUTTING_OFF_EMERGENCY_ACTION_OVERRIDE]

Just like that the machine regains control of its action, with a distorted confused growl it immediately locks its gaze onto the Gardevoir.

Her sword didn’t cut as well as expected. But this gave an idea as to how much she needs to do.

When he pulled back and fired his cannon, her eyes widened a bit as she ducked, feeling the sheer cold. While the beam was firing, she fired her own large psychic bolt at the cannon again, while manipulating her blade to fly in from behind

The machine ceases the ray from its cannon before leaping high into the air, avoiding both the psychic bolt and the incoming blade. While mid-air he fires the ice-charged Techno Blast again, intending to freeze her solid for the second time.

This move again. By this point, Angie had seen it 3 times. That was more than enough. As his claws came down, she rolled away just receiving a minor cut to her cheek. She swung her blade directly at his claws, ready to sever another of his weapons.

The machine didn’t react fast enough, so her weapon struck true. However it didn’t cut right through as she expected, instead it bounces off with a loud clang. There’s a large cut in the metal where her own weapon struck, but whatever the Genesect is made of...it is strong...very strong...

A loud clicking sound is heard as a sky-blue drive pops out of a hidden slot of the cannon and slides into the Drive slot, the humming immediately returning.

The machine leaps back before firing a blue ray at the Gardevoir, the surrounding temperature of the ray immediately drops so it’s easy to tell what would happen if it were to strike her.
