Rhys/Illyrians & ToG witches -possible link between ACOTAR and Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas *spoilers including ACOFAS*
Okay so I’ve discussed before in my Crown of stars post that Rhys is described to have a crown of stars in ACOMAF that is also described to belong to the witches in ToG. You can go check specifics in that post as I can’t remember it that well, but it included Rhiannon Cochran and Elena both of whom are characters which hold significance in the ToG story so far.
I thought this maybe indicated that Rhysand from ACOTAR world could somehow be linked to the witches. Maybe he is a descendent of Manon or Rhiannon Cochran, which could explain part of why he is so powerful. What has made me come back to this idea was a specific quote from A Court of Frost and Starlight, which was released yesterday.
This is said by Rhysand when he is toasting the winter solstice:
“To the blessed darkness from which we are born, and to which we return”
Does that not echo a similar phrase said by Manon and the Thirteen in ToG? I found this but I’m sure there’s another that I’ve read that is closer to what Rhys said:
“We are the Thirteen, from now until the Darkness claims us.” (Heir of Fire, ch 16)
The witches also believed they came from darkness and will eventually return to it.
What does this mean? Do you think that Rhys and the night Court could in some way be descendants of the ToG witches? Maybe even the Thirteen? I mean I assume the phrase Rhys used is from the Night Court, though it could be Illyrian.
Hmm, Illyrians. Maybe the witches could be related to the Illyrians! I mean it’d make sense with their talent for battle and also that they can have uncontrollable power. I think it’s mentioned in ToG series that a witch can release uncontained power (called Yielding maybe?) on the battlefield which would kill their enemies but also themselves. This actually kind of reminds me of the fact that Illyrians use of Siphons to contain and control their power whilst on the battlefield. Here’s a quote from ACOFAS that describes the power:
“the raw killing power most Illyrians possessed and channeled through the stones to keep from destroying everything in its path. The bearer included.” -doesn’t this sound familiar? They can even kill the person with the power!
Who knows! If you have any ideas or possibly know the quote I could be thinking of, then feel free to reply below! 😁
I had something to add here. what if illyrians are the sons of the witches? we know that the daughters stayed with the witches. what about the sons? they must have also had the power descended by their mothers.
