Valg talk, possible Tog link to ACOTAR world *spoilers, obviously, not for Koa though!*
Hey everyone! So basically I noticed that the phase âdarkness between the starsâ or âgap between the starsâ or something along those lines is used in both of Sarahâs series. Now, in Throne of Glass it can be argued that she uses them in association with the darkness of the valg. Every time it has been used, it arguably can be linked to them. Here are some examples below:
The king of Adarlan, Dorianâs father
âThere was a darkness in his eyes that felt cold and foreign, like the gaps between the stars...
Something dangerous lurked about him. It was an air of death that sheâd felt standing before that black void summoned by Cain. It was the stench of another world, a dead world.â -Caelena about the king, Throne of Glass, chapter 44
THIS WAS THE FIRST BOOK! It was there all along and Iâve only just noticed it. We now know the darkness in his eyes is linked with the Valg, whoâs world was from âanother worldâ.
The glass castle the King of Adarlan lived in:
âThis place smelled like death, like hell, like the dark spaces between the stars.â Rowan of the tunnels under the castle, Queen of Shadows, chapter 70
Once again, itâs linked to the valg. The valg spent a lot of time in those passage ways. So we assume the âdark spacesâ Rowan uses is linked to them and their world.
Valg Prince inhabiting Dorian
âIt was a room cloaked in endless night. Or maybe the darkness was from the demon. But they could see; they had always been able to see in the blackness. Where the demon prince had come from, so little light existed that it had learned to hunt in the shadows.â
âA hissing, cold voice that came from between the stars, speaking to himâonly to him.â -Valg Prince talking to Dorian, Queen of Shadows, Chapter 30
The valg prince is used to the darkness because thatâs where he came from, the dark space between the stars.
âAn assessing look with eyes that were too old for barely eighteen; eyes that had stared long into the darkness between the stars and yearned to know its secrets. â an Empire of Storm, chapter 65
This is a small link, but this suggests that when Nehemia went searching for Elena she wanted to learn more about the Valg and their secrets. Safe to say she learns.
âThis witch had been crafted from the darkness between the stars.â -Queen of Shadows, chapter 58
âEyes of the Valg kings, eyes of our masters, it shrieked. Do not touch that one!â -Valg Prince to Dorian, Queen of Shadows, chapter 58
These quote suggest that Manon is part valg too, as she was also crafted from the darkness that they valg came from. She also has the eyes of their kings, which could be significant down the line. Maybe the valg wonât attack her or she might be immune to their possession. Or she could be their downfall or their leader, who the hell knows. There is a good theory that Manon is a descendant of King Brannon (who has gold eyes, though described darker) and Rhiannon Cochran (who she resembles so much that even Maeve said she had seen her face before). It was thought that their child was conceived to shoulder the burden on Brannonâs descendant, Aelin. This means that Manon might have some VERY exciting things in her future, and could help destroy Erawan and Maeve.
The fact she and other witches are part valg was there all along though, with them often saying âFrom now until the darkness claims usâ, the darkness they were made from, the valg world.
Now combine valg + powerful magical Brannon + powerful Rhiannon Cochran = Manon, whoâs going to wreck hell and Iâll be loving every second
âThose eyes, darker than the gaps between the stars, slid to her. âI have been in love with Maeve since I first laid eyes on her.ââ -Empire of Storms, chapter 52
This is a slightly confusing one, as Lorcan isnât a valg...that we know of. Oh god, what if he is! The word âdarkerâ could maybe be a comparison between him and the valg. It could suggest that his darkness can rival the valgs, so could foreshadow something perhaps. Maybe he could beat them or overcome possession.
Could this quote be a valg whoâs possessing him in love with queen Maeve? But then why only posses Lorcan and not the other Cadre members? Hmm
Aelin being possessed by Deanna
âCold as the gaps between the stars. And her eyes⌠Turquoise burned bright ⌠around a core of silver. No hint of gold to be found.â -Empire of Storms, Chapter 35
This one is also super interesting. Why? It says âcolderâ than, like its comparing her to the valg. This could also suggest that perhaps Deanna might help Aelin, or that Deanna is as bad as the Valg. If she were to inhabit Aelinâs body whilst Aelin is under the valgâs possession, she could wreck havoc on the valg and free her from her iron. It was in the same chapter that said through Deanna and Moonfire, Aelin was able to melt iron. So ding ding ding, Aelin could escape the iron coffin!!!!! OMG I hope so.
NOW THE LINK BETWEEN TOG AND ACOTAR
Still on the same topic, I checked the ACOTAR trilogy. I found only 2 instances where the phrase or something similar has been used. It could be a coincidence ash she may simply like the phrase. They are shown below:
âAzriel would likely love Mor until he was a whisper of darkness between the stars.â- A Court of Mist and Fury, chapter 49
âThen he shot into the sky, and was swallowed by the darkness between the stars.â -about Rhys, A Court of Mist and Fury, chapter 17
Now what is SUPER interesting is that, in the whole trilogy is it used with two characters that are both at least half illyrian. Why? Because it could suggest that they are descendants of the darkness, of the valg too. I mean, both have wings, Azriel is surrounded by shadows and Rhys is said to be the embodiment of night. Also Rhys can transform into a beast of the night, why not say he could maybe come from them? Iâm not sure if the transformation thing is just a general High lord thing so if it is, ignore that bit. Regardless, all illyrians have black wings, and are part of the night Court region. Many live in the mountains and are considered brutish and violent. Now Iâm not saying that theyâre closely related to the valg, they could be distantly related. But still related nonetheless.
An explanation could be Maeve. They could descend from her. It would explain Rhysâ looks and powers being so similar to hers. He is described as having power unlike no other high lord. I think it was said that a lot of the Night Court rulers. But what I really want to know, is who is Maeve? Well not Maeve, we know sheâs a valg Queen, but whoâs body is Maeve possessing? Does this woman have children or family members or was she powerful in any way before Maeve possessed her?
These are just thoughts, feel free to add yours or correct any mistakes Iâve made :)
