! SPOILERS for Andor season 2 finale !

So that last scene happened, and honestly, I don't care about it. I'm not happy about it, but it doesn't change my feelings about Rogue One or the rebelcaptain pairing. My opinions on Cassian/Bix remain the same, as do my thoughts on Jyn/Cassian.

I don't know what the writers were thinking with this plotline; I don't think they achieved what they intended. It didn't change my view of Rogue One or Jyn and Cassian, but it did alter my opinion of Bix. The fact that she made that choice without Cassian—taking away his right to be a father because she chose the rebellion for both of them—just made her seem selfish. I'm frustrated that the writers made me dislike Bix. I loved her character, and now I'm just so disappointed with the lazy writing.

Anyways, I don't want to focus solely on the negative, so I’ll share what I really enjoyed about the finale. I loved seeing Melshi, K-2, and Cassian interact. I was also happy with Vel and Cleya’s ending; I'm glad my girls survived. I loved learning more about Cleya and Lutheans relationship and just more about Cleya in general.!I loved all the hints and Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the episodes. I cried during the ending as Cassian walked through the base, passing by all the people we've met and grown to love throughout the show. I will truly miss this show and its characters, and I hope we don't let some of the negative aspects overshadow our enjoyment of the good parts.

Why The Andor Finale Does NOT Erase or Invalidate RebelCaptain

The Force, the universe, fate, destiny, whatever you wanna call it, split Cassian and Bix apart and brought Cassian and Jyn together. The baby (if you accept that the baby actually WAS Cassian’s) does not change that.

People split up and move on while co-parenting all the time. If Cassian had lived, of course he would’ve wanted to be part of his child’s life, but the ENTIRE story of Rogue One is him falling in love with Jyn and committing himself to her.

Plus who says Bix didn’t move on too? We only see one brief moment of her holding the baby. We didn’t see her home. We don’t know if she and the baby live alone, or if she’s found someone else. Or if in the future she WILL find someone else, perhaps another kind and noble farmer who will be there for her and the baby 24/7, like Cassian could never be, with whom she will find true love.

The tragedy of the finale is that Cassian never got to be a parent (again, IF that’s his baby), not that he was separated from Bix forever. The Force healer’s premonition is literally what made Bix realize she and Cassian could NOT be together - that their destinies were different. She was NOT “the place he needed to be.” Cassian’s entire destiny was completely tied to Jyn’s. Not Bix’s.

Since I genuinely love the first season of Andor, especially the first two arcs, and watch it as a comfort show (yes, I know how that sounds, and yes, I’m perfectly normal), I found myself thinking again about how deeply patriarchy is embedded in the way we talk about stories.

What always bothered me was the assumption that if Cassian had survived, he would somehow spend five years waiting for Bix. That he wouldn’t have relationships, wouldn’t be attracted to anyone else, wouldn’t touch another woman until the war ended.

But what about Bix?Why do we expect the same thing from her? Why do we assume that for five years no one would attract her, no one would make her laugh, no one would make her feel wanted or safe? Why is the image of her standing alone in a field with a baby somehow treated as the inevitable romantic conclusion?Five years is a very long time. Especially if you're a single mother. Especially during and after a war. Bix had relationships outside of Cassian before. She was clearly capable of loving other people, being attracted to other people, building a life that didn't revolve entirely around him.

Which brings me to Timm, and honestly, I want justice for Timm. :)Because fandom tends to treat him as the weak, jealous guy who betrayed Cassian. But from Timm’s perspective? Cassian is not the protagonist a tragic revolutionary hero.He’s the guy from foster care who lies, borrows money he doesn’t repay, owes half the town favors, gets into trouble constantly, drinks too much, sleeps in an old car ( Maarva ship), sleeps around, and now appears to be connected to a double murder. And the woman you love is still emotionally tangled up with him.Of course Timm is jealous. Most people would be.But jealousy doesn't automatically make him a bad person. If anything, Timm is kind of "husband material." The stable guy. The dependable guy. The man who loves you, shows up, works, and tries to build a future. The kind of person many people actually end up marrying after finally escaping their own version of a Cassian. Sometimes I wonder whether Bix might actually have been happier with someone like Timm in the end. She always longed for stability, peace, and a normal life.

Sometimes the “Plan B” guy turns out to be a better choice than the great, passionate, fated love of your life. Someone like Cassian may be exciting, intense, and unforgettable, but that doesn’t automatically mean they’re the person you build a happy life with.I actually like imagining that after Cassian’s death, Bix eventually fell in love with a kind of “Timm 2.0” — someone steady, dependable, and emotionally available. Someone who could give her the stability she always seemed to be looking for.

Once again losing my mind about this. At first, rogue one is the story of Jyn joining Cassian’s war. She’s the newcomer. She’s the one ignorant to all the worst details. But then the script is flipped, and Cassian submits to her. He’s got nothing left to lose, and after losing her father, neither does Jyn. He sees her fight and hears her passion and says, you’re in charge. I’ll follow you anywhere. I have armies at the ready to yield to your word. He sees so much of himself reflecting back in her light, and he can’t help but be the belief and hope and fight that he always needed behind him. Be the person you needed when you were younger or WHATEVER.

Alright Andor and Rebelcaptain fans listen up! I haven’t watched the finale yet but I do know about one particular detail about Bix’s character and how her and Cassian’s relationship ended up. So here’s the deal:

When it comes to shipping canon is whatever the fuck you want it to be! This is our sandbox and our toys to play with! What we are NOT going to do is be assholes to other shippers and fans of other characters! Just let them play in their sandbox and we’ll play in ours ok.

Cassian x Bix and Rebelcaptain: Please let these ships be friends !

(May ‘25: Now with some post-Andor updates)

I ‘ship’ Cassian x Bix AND Cassian x Jyn. I see there has been some conflict in the past when the “new woman” was first brought in with the series, some that remains now, and I’m both saddened and bemused by that.

Rebelcaptain for me is a canon relationship… to a certain extent. If the film is taken in isolation (update - I’ve had to add that because I’m afraid for me Andor does affect this) I would have no doubt that these brave heroes would end up together had they lived. That’s why I love it… the whole beautiful tragedy of what might have been, and the loyalty that binds people together when making a sacrifice like this. Were they actually in love, in canon? For me – no. Not yet. And that’s important for my personal enjoyment of Rogue One, especially its ending. As the novelisation stresses, Cassian dies without knowing Jyn as “There wasn’t the time”. And I simply don’t believe you can love someone without knowing them . But I enjoy the idea of exploring what would have happened had they lived. They are a perfect loyal “battle couple”, definitely my favourite fanon SW couple and great to imagine together. I see Rebelcaptain also as a way of giving them the happy ending they deserved. Oh - and the chemistry between Felicity Jones and Diego Luna on-screen is absolutely electric. In short and again: I have no doubt that in the context of the film alone they would have fallen in love had they lived and would have been perfect for each other. And they are a perfect fanon ship. Canon is not and never has been important for me when it comes to shipping.

(Update: even in the context of Andor, the big attraction of Rebelcaptain to me is that it offers a complete blank slate for “what if” fics. Because the relationship is all about what “might have been”, there’s room to make it basically anything you want. It can be a beautiful ideal, something darkly tragic or anything in between. There’s lots of room to play. That’s why there are infinite possibilities with AUs. But for me, the most attractive aspect remains… finding hope, strength and purpose in each other at the darkest time, and along with that idea of learning to love again)

(^^ And I I think this is the exact moment in the film when they seem to acknowledge the loss of what might have been. It’s just heartbreakingly beautiful… )

Cassian x Bix - I don’t even think of it as a ‘ship’ per se as it is a 100% canon relationship.. It’s fascinating to me – 17 years of friendship that has occasionally blossomed into a romantic/sexual relationship. It’s a genuinely unusual set up too. I’ve read a few takes that they are “over each other” by the time of the start of the series, to which I want to say … watch again, closely! They certainly have moved on to date different people, but it’s also very clear from their interactions (even in their very first scene, but especially in the intense confrontation in Ep 7) that there is still a lot of extremely deep feeling between them – even if some of it is very negative. In the S1 production notes, the show’s creator Tony Gilroy says that they “are meant to be together… but it’s been impossible all these years. Now, she’s done with him … he’s burnt every last bridge .” Why? The series also provides the answer – Cassian is in many ways an absolute mess at the start of the season and Bix was quite rightly fed up with him as a boyfriend. He’s completely unreliable, likes short-lived affairs (often with married women - so no risk of commitment!), isn’t working regularly and has debts all over the place. This largely stems from his “unresolved childhood trauma”. He has a fear of “leaving people behind” and despite having a lot of love to give “ is so scared of being loved”. But he and Bix nonetheless prove to be incredibly loyal friends and their love in this platonic sense clearly runs very deep indeed. They have known each other since he was 10 so she is also something like a sister figure. There are hints that they are still at least a little bit still ‘in love’ too.Bix is still very protective of Cassian and takes personal risks for him… and he finally comes to appreciate this and pay back his metaphorical debt to her in the finale. The question now is what season 2 holds for them, if anything.

(^^ I love the way she is using her fingertips to push his hand off, as if to avoid the risk of too much touch. The gesture and look that says “Please don’t try and get close to me again because we both know how bad that is for us… but I’m such a total idiot when it comes to you that I will still very unwisely go out of my way to help you, especially when you look at me like that so please just don’t”)

Both are going to be very different people at the start of S2 and over the following years of the story . Bix has been traumatised; Cassian has been radicalised. And that’s just the start. Perhaps they quickly drift apart. Perhaps some kind of betrayal is involved. Perhaps one or both of them will want to commit again to a relationship, but it’s impossible because of the demands of the rebellion (like Vel /Cinta). Perhaps Bix “ends up with” someone else (Brasso, ideally, especially if they both survive the season). Perhaps they will get back together at least for a while and enjoy a little last happiness before inevitable heartbreak. Perhaps all, some or none of these. But none of that stops me from loving and appreciating what they do have, what they have had up to now, and the intriguing dynamics of when they do interact on screen. Bix x Cassian attracts me as a fanfic ship because it’s all about exploring what is there and how it came to be, which is why I currently don’t write them beyond the present time of season 1. I’m waiting to see what happens next in Canon, as it were, because that to me is an important part of writing them. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying analysing the relationship by imagining them in the past.

(Update… well, what season 2 held for them is probably best summed up for me as a moving and realistic portrayal of a long-term relationship reaching new highs, new lows, set against the twin incredible pressures of recovery from profound trauma and the stress of a wider conflict. It’s a canon relationship that I absolutely love for its nuance and complexity. Plus, as a couple they are sweet, sad, hot, damaged and generally adorable so I’m happy to say that “I ship them” too in the fanon sense. I think they would have been happy together after the war had Cassian lived. Yes, I have no doubt he would have understood and he would have forgiven her. They both did terrible things on behalf of the rebellion. It’s gloriously tragic and messy. I love it.)

So for me Bix x Cassian in no way impacts on Jyn x Cassian or vice versa, especially if you apply… real life principles rather than the ideals of fandoms: “soulmates” and OTPs. Many people – most people – will have a beautifully intense and loving relationship with more than one person at different times of their lives. I’m old – trust me on this one.

(Update: since I first wrote this post, I’ve also shipped Cassian with Luthen and with Brasso, really enjoy “Melshian” and I’m planning a Cassian x Mon. I’ve decided that characters who are fictional and also in most cases dead probably deserve rich and varied love lives in the sordid corners of my imagination.)

^^ Both relationships in these two scenes go way beyond romance - canonically. In the first - many years of close and loyal friendship. In the second: a bond created through brave and selfless sacrifice together. And for both: Cassian’s absolute hatred of being “someone who leaves people behind”: the quality that I love best about him. And saving each other. Literally and metaphorically.

And oh… it’s beautiful. Both moments are beautiful.

I made the fatal mistake of joining a Reddit discussion about whether Jyn and Cassian have chemistry in Rogue One.

I politely told the author that yes, they do, and that's okay. People can love more than one person in their lifetime. I also recommended avoiding the Rogue One novelization, because if anything, it made the connection between Jyn and Cassian feel even stronger to me.Then someone replied that they would actually recommend the novelization for the exact opposite reason. Their argument was essentially that the book tones down the proto-romantic moments from the film, makes the relationship entirely platonic, and even reflects Alexander Freed's stated intention that Jyn and Cassian's bond wasn't romantic.

And that's the moment I started wondering whether we're failing to teach reading comprehension.

Mourning the fact that tomorrow is the end of Andor, so here are my thoughts on the last couple of episodes. (If it’s not obvious, SPOILERS for Andor s2 ep 7-9)

- Cassian and Bix: I think this was the best ending for them because it illustrates why they never truly worked as a couple and sets the stage for why he and Jyn work better together. (Again, no hate to Bix or Cassian/Bix shippers; this is just my opinion.) Throughout Season 2, we see Bix and Cassian hold on to their life on Ferrix and the comfort they find in each other, but their relationship is actively holding both of them back.

Then, after a year-long time jump, we see Bix trying to force Cassian to confront his destiny, but he resists. He chooses her and a peaceful life, but she ultimately takes that choice away. I understand her motivations, but it highlights another reason why Bix and Cassian would never work: they loved each other, but they were no longer in love. Both were clinging to the only thing they knew in a world they no longer recognized, and in the end, just like everyone else in Cassian's life, she made the final choice for him. She knew he was using her to escape, just as he had attempted with Maarva in season 1. Cassian never wanted to be a rebel, but he was consistently forced into situations where rebellion seemed to be the only option. He wanted to fight, but was never all in. Bix was his way out, but she refused to be that for him.

While this was necessary, it is still a tragic situation. I don’t hate Bix for her decision; it was her choice to leave, and he could have still left without her. It’s sad, but I believe this was the best ending for them and provides insight into why Cassian is the way he is in Rogue One, and why his relationship with Jyn was ultimately healthier. In their brief time together, he gave her a purpose, and she gave him a choice. Together, they chose the rebellion: she chose to fight for her new home, and he remembered why he was fighting in the first place.

- The Gormahn Rebellion: The entire thing was devastating. It hit very close to where we are now, which made it all the more heartbreaking. I cried the entire time.

- Syril: I know some found Syril’s ending anticlimactic, but I thought it was perfect. The way he died, realizing that he had been on the wrong side all this time. The government he dedicated his life to, and the woman he thought he loved, ultimately used him. Then in the midst of the massacre, he saw the man who started it all, Cassian Andor, and almost killed him, only to realize that Andor had no idea who he was. In the end, Syril died realizing how insignificant he truly was in all of this; he died as he lived—a pawn of the Empire.

-Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Luthen: What I love most about the series is the depth it gives to the rebellion. We see the various types of rebellion and how each plays a part in overthrowing the Empire. Bail Organa operates within the system. He isn't naive or a coward, but he understands that his role is to work from the inside. Then there's Luthen, who sees people as tools. He crosses ethical lines and sets aside his morality for the “greater good.” While he may not be a good person, he recognizes that he's necessary for achieving that greater goal. Mon Mothma, on the other hand, believes that goodness can prevail. She feels she can no longer operate within a corrupt system, and her morals guide her decisions. She recognizes the wrongs around her and feels compelled to speak out. Mon reminds those who have sacrificed their lives and souls that there is still hope and that goodness exists. Each of these characters is important and necessary to the rebellion, and I love that we get to see how they all fail in areas where others succeed. They are all essential to the success of the rebellion.

I have so many more thoughts, but this post is long enough. I can't believe this series ends tomorrow. Andor is one of the best projects in the Star Wars franchise, and I will miss it and the characters so much.

I realized something recently. When Jyn says she’s not used to people staying once things get complicated, it must have hit Cassian deeply too, because honestly, neither is he.Maarva chose the Rebellion. Bix chose the Rebellion too, over him in many ways. Brasso died. Will chose Luthen and the cause. Melshi leaves him behind on the beach on Niamos the first time. Again and again, people move away from him, toward something bigger, or simply out of his life.And in the end, the only ones who truly choose *him* are K2 and Jyn. They are the last beings who do not leave him behind. Jyn doesn’t leave him at all, and K2 literally sacrifices himself for them. Even while “dying,” he keeps running that absurdly hopeful scenario where Cassian survives and escapes.That’s part of why the ending of Rogue One destroys me so much. For probably the first time in his life, Cassian is no longer the person left behind.

Missing RebelCaptain while watching Andor. I love Bix and Cassian’s relationship, but it’s not a ship for me personally. The two ships and dynamics feel very different to me, and it never seemed like Bix and Cassian were still in love. They had a relationship in the past and both still deeply care for each other and find comfort in one another, but are not IN love anymore. They are all the family they have left.

I just don’t want Andor to undermine Rogue One and the relationship between Jyn and Cassian. No matter what happens, I will firmly believe that these two were in love. I’ve been shipping them for too long to stop now. They gave each other new hope and purpose, and their connection was so palpable. They found home in each other after losing so much. I just love them so much and hope we get some breadcrumbs at least!

Note: not hate to Bix/Cassian shippers! Feel free to ship who you want, and I hope we can all be kind to each other no matter who you ship! All of these are amazing characters who I love dearly, this was just my little rant after watching too many sad edits lol.

I love that Andor established that Cassian has a habit of disobeying Draven's orders, mostly because he cares about people. He cares about the cause, yes, but to him, the cause IS people. It adds so much context to why he chooses not to kill Galen once he's met and started to connect with Jyn. As much as he respects Luthen's sacrifices, he made a choice to be a different kind of rebel who's sensitive to people when it's necessary. In doing so he ends up being more of an asset to the Rebellion than a liability because it's his decision not to pull the trigger that gives Jyn reason to trust him and by extension the Rebel cause itself. If he'd gone through with the assassination, I don't know if she would've wanted to join forces with them and give them the final push necessary to steal the Death Star plans from Scarif.

Also it's important to note that his decision also proves to Jyn that not all rebels are cut from the same cloth as Saw. Imo she gets an unfair rap for not wanting to get involved initially because it's clear she was traumatized not only by what happened to her family, but also by how Saw chose to raise her. There's a reason she cut ties with him and we know enough about the character by now to know she likely had very good reason to, despite his good intentions. She doesn't trust the rebels on Yavin because to her, all of them are the same. That is, until Cassian shows Galen compassion. It's a pivotal moment that convinces her that maybe not all the rebels have lost their humanity in the process of fighting for their cause, and that they're fighting for the people - people like her parents - instead of getting caught up in a sense of fanaticism (that again, likely traumatized her while she was growing up with Saw).

EDIT: Also everything Cassian went through in the show adds way more context to why he lets Jyn keep her blaster when she says "trust goes both ways." He knows how necessary it is for the rebels to trust each other, otherwise they won't win, and none of the sacrifices he or anyone else made up until this point will matter. It's such a pity their relationship never gets the chance to develop beyond the Scarif mission because they meet each other where they need to be met and also challenge each other where they need to be challenged

It’s honestly incredible. So now fans are re-editing Rogue One to make it feel like the finale of Andor, even though we were all told by the creators that Andor flows perfectly and directly into Rogue One. Well… apparently it doesn’t work that smoothly after all.And of course the re-edit turns it into Cassian’s story above all else. Because heaven forbid it remains what it originally was: Jyn’s story.But why support strong female protagonists and stories centered on women, right? Because apparently a woman’s narrative always has to become an extension of a male hero. The lover. The girlfriend. The mother of his children. Anything except a fully realized protagonist whose story matters on its own.Otherwise people genuinely seem unable to process what to do with her.(Yes, I discovered this today. Yes, it annoyed me.)

'Rogue One' Becomes a True 'Andor' Finale With This Fan Project

I think it's really telling that Cassian keeps protecting Jyn even after they've found Galen and he has no more reason to. Just like in the show he refuses to leave anyone behind

So apparently we’re now getting a fan edit of Rogue One that is supposed to connect “better” to Andor and focus more on Cassian’s perspective. And from what I saw, the editor even said on Reddit that he plans to remove most of Cassian’s interactions with Jyn because they are supposedly disrespectful to the love of his life and don’t fit the narrative anymore.And I’m sorry, but… what narrative exactly? Because to me, it fits the narrative *perfectly*.How is Cassian portrayed whenever he is not with Bix? As a flirt. A man with no problem charming women, even married ones, and falling into shallow, temporary relationships when it suits him. Hello, Niamos girl. Are we genuinely supposed to believe that for an entire year after Bix left, Cassian just stared sadly into the rain every night while playing rianza with Melshi and K2? Please. :)I would honestly bet that several girls on Yavin became very familiar with that bungalow and that bed. Very familiar.So the idea that he would flirt with Jyn is completely in character and fully fits the story. He absolutely could have left that in. And honestly, some people could even interpret that flirting as something deeper: after more than a year, looking into the mirror at those green eyes, Cassian maybe allowed himself a tiny spark of hope that this could be a girl he might someday love deeply again, if they had time.But they didn’t. Neither of them did.
