Intro…

About: I’ve been a fan of The School for Good and Evil (SGE) since around 2018. I literally love the fandom with all of my soul, and cant go a single day without thinking about it. Out of all the fandoms that I’m in, it’s my definitely my favorite.

I’ve been on Tumbler for a year or two now, and scrolling on here has become one of the things I look forward to most, haha.

While this is an SGE focused blog, it will delve mainly into the prequel series. (Rise of The School for Good and Evil and Fall of the School for Good and Evil). I think the prequels have so many easter eggs and details, I also think some characters in the prequels were little explored. But to be honest, Rafal and Rhian are kind of the whole reason. I love their dynamic and relationship so much. I’ve fangirled over Rafal since book 3. So you can imagine how estatic I was when the Soman announced the prequels.

Ever or Never: Honestly? I take both qualities, but I seem to be more of an Ever.

I’ve had an SGE blog in my head for a while now, but never took the chance to do it. Instead, I’ve just been looking at other people’s blogs and commented here and there. I think I’ve found another Soman Easter egg: the only other time Soman mentions Rabid Bear Rex besides the prequels is in TLEA.

Lesso mentions it herself to Sophie: “Once upon a time Evil had majestic victories too: Fiona the Fairy Eater, Children Noodle Soup, Rabid Bear Rex, and others long forgotten.”

it’s not only that one. In that same line she mentions Children Noodle Soup. Which Rhian remarks on in one scene during Rise.

Hear me out... What if the reason for Rhian's Insomnia, especially in Fall, was due to Nemesis Dreams?

In the chapter where he kills the soldier, it 's briefly mentioned that he's been having night terrors. But unfortunately there's no mention/indication of Rhian ever having symptoms, like Sophie did in book one.

But, Rafal does get stronger as Rhian gets weaker, like Lesso said.

However, even if Rafal was Rhian's true Nemesis, then shouldn't have Rhian technically won? He wouldn't have needed Sophie in order to complete his Never After because he'd have already defeated his Nemesis, right?

Also, what if Rhian killing the soldier parallels Sophie killing the beast?

An Analysis on Blood Magic + Rafal's flight

What is blood magic, really?

After doing a bit of research, it seems like most blood that's related to magic is usually utilized in potion or draught making. For instance, using another person's drop of blood within the potion or sacrifice in order to gain a certain attribute, etc...

But that's definitely not how Rafal used it in Rise.

So instead, I researched human flight.

We know that flight is simply not possible as a regular mortal for many reasons.

Basic physics, concepts of Lift, Thrust, Drag, Weight, etc. As humans, we lack the correct aerodynamic structures needed in order to develop lift and thrust. See, wings give the ability to manipulate the surrounding airspace. But it's not ONLY our absence of wings, it's also how dense we are. Human bone is solid and contributes to our overall mass.

2. Flight is extremely intense and therefore requires massive amounts of energy, which is nearly impossible for a regular human to supply.

When the regular human body is at high altitudes, it becomes harder for your heart to supply it with the necessary oxygen. Basically, the higher you are, the harder your circulatory system works.

Obviously, his immortality plays a huge role in this, but what if Rafal's version of blood magic is the manipulation of his own bodily structures and functions, such as his weight, bones, and energy levels, and that's why it's so dangerous to use because of how easy it is to get yourself killed?

He'd definitely have to sustain his energy for long periods of time, as he's seen flying to and from Gavaldon and other destinations. His immortal body as well as his utilization of blood magic could definitely play a major role in how he's able to fly.

Therefore, Blood magic could be defined as the manipulation of one's own body by the use of the cardiovascular or circulatory systems.

As for why it's forbidden to Evers, I'm not sure. Rhian just said it was "forbidden." Maybe it violates one of the five rules of fairy tales.

Another character that I think Rafal would get along with, or can somewhat relate to is Micheal Scofield from Prison Break. I think Rafal would love Scofield’s planning and genius. He’d take inspiration from it, probably. Can I also add how phenomenal of a show Prison Break is? Highly recommended.

I think I might've found the perfect job for Rafal irl. It's fitting anyway:

Hear me out: Rafal would be An amazing Investment Banker.

And here's why:

Long work hours are practically what he wishes for. In the United States the average amount of full-time workers work around 40hrs a week. Investment bankers however, can sometimes average above 80 hours a week. Rafal would love this, he's already a workaholic, and once he gets into a task, he will not leave until he finishes it. (As seen by the doom room scene in rise.)

He doesn't need to sleep.

It's competitive. Okay, this one might need some explaining. I'm going to make a claim here that Rafal, while he may not show it, I believe he loves a challenge. I just feel like he'd get bored if it was always the same thing everyday. But he is also strict about routine so who knows about that one, but while he doesn't like change, I think he likes a task so he can prove what or whoever's challenging him wrong.

Not just investment banking, but the financial field in general seems like a great fit for him, if he wasn't in the education industry. He's very logical, so I'd assume he doesn't hate mathematics or puzzles.

Oh, I just know he'd work at a big firm in New York. He'd enjoy the fast-paced lifestyle anyway.

Headcanon that Rafal is secretly a fein for gossip. He acts like it doesn't concern him and that it's a waste of his time, but in reality he lives for it. (at least when it doesn't concern him).

Well I suppose it has been a while, hasn't it. No, not really any sort of announced hiatus, I've just been busy recently.
