kendall-monroe:
When she mentioned New York and his graduation night, Kendall felt his shoulders tighten, the tension immediately back in his posture. Of course he remembered. He’d been unable to forget since the morning after that night, when he sleepily worked through a hangover to recall what had happened between them. His roommates had been no help– they were still out bar hopping in celebration when Kendall and Jonah sneaked back to the apartment, but soon enough the memory came back, along with a twinge of guilt. “Yeah, I remember.”
There was a certain worried tone to Jonah’s voice that made Kendall’s brow crease. He never really got mad at her, so for her to make him promise not to seemed almost like a red flag. “Jonah,” he said, looking up to her face, studying her expression. “I won’t get mad. You can tell me anything, anytime, okay? I promise.”
“I know you say that now, but after what I’m tell you? You’re going to hate me...” Jonah bit down on her lower lip. At that moment, no matter how many times that she prepared herself, no words were able to come out. “I don’t think I can tell you this, so I’m just show you something,” After pulling out a small photo from the drawer next to her, Jonah sighed and bit down a bit hard on the inside of her lower lip. Her hand extended to the other, passing the photo over to Kendall. “It’s mine. Ours. You can’t see much ‘cause it’s like the size of a peanut,” Jonah explained. It was better to admit everything to him now. As much as lying sucked, there wasn’t any single way in which Jonah would’ve kept up with it all. “—I know that you were worried before and I lied and I’m sorry, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell you. And I’m only telling you this now because I don’t wanna go through all this and then have you find out later in life, like in some telenovela," Jonah sighed, shaking her head. "I'm pregnant, and I know you’re busy and have a million and one things to worry about, so your choice to be here for him or her is completely up to you...” Phew. A weight had been lifted from her shoulders. As her hand made their way to her stomach, she was completely unprepared for Kendall’s next words.

Annabel chuckled and shook her head a bit, “It does sound strange. I’m not gonna lie.” Things between Jonah and Annabel were still far from perfect but since getting help and doing a lot of work on herself, the two managed to patch things up enough to finally be civil, which was surprising given everything Annabel had done to the poor girl. She was surprised Jonah even wanted to speak to her afterwards. “Yeah. I’m actually free all night if you are.”
“Perfect,” Jonah exclaimed excitedly. “And The Music Man just built a new recording studio. I haven’t used it yet, but I'm super excited to.” walking towards the room, she opened the door and motioned Annabel to where the mic and headphones were set up. “I picked out a few songs, and they’re all super up-beat, but I wanna slow them down, like You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates. I think turning that into a ballad would be fun, but I'm up for hearing your suggestions.”
kendall-monroe:
Over the last few days, Kendall had been purposefully busying himself with whatever he could; work, exercise, his new apartment– anything to take his mind off of Jonah and the worries he’d been having regarding her. It was difficult to convince himself that the idea of her being pregnant was all in his head, especially when he’d gotten no hint at all from her. Despite it all, he felt like, finally, he was starting to let go of the anxiety. If something was up, he knew Jonah would’ve told him regardless of their relationship status.
But then she called him, asked him to come over, and his nerves were piqued all over again. The whole way over he was running through possible scenarios in his head (ever the over-thinker, Kendall had never quite been able to shake that habit). When he got to the door and Jonah appeared on the other side, he still smiled as he walked in, trying to play it cool. “Yeah, y’know, anytime,” he assured her, hands slipping into his back pockets. “What’s going on? Is, uh, is everything okay?”
“Yeah, uh, I think so,” Jonah answered. How she was going about telling him? She had no clue. She recited lines over and over, but nothing seemed to fit. Should she go around it? Hint at it? Or bluntly telling him? “I-- I have to be honest with you... I don’t think there’s no easy way to say this...” Jonah added. Her heart was beating ten times faster than before. It’s fine. He’ll understand. But understand what exactly? That they were both careless and drunk? She had always thought her first child was going to be thought out and well planned. To have Kendall in the mixed of all this was the last thing she expected. Yet, happy that he of all people was the one that this was happening with.
A part of regretted not continuing the pill. At the same time though there was no need. She wasn’t dating anyone or planning on it anytime soon. As sad as that sounded. And the whole thing with Kendall, meeting up with him, getting drunk was the last thing that she had expected to happen last month. “Okay, so remember a month ago? When you and I, um, y’know... I visited you in New York? We got drunk? I don’t think I need to explain the other stuff, right?” her fingers fiddled around with the ends of her hair as her eyes were fixated on the other’s in front of her. “I-- I’m-- I’m need you to promise me that no matter what I tell you, you won’t be mad, okay? Swear?” Of course there was no way that Jonah was going to tell him that she lied and was actually pregnant without him being mad, but she could hope, right? She needed some form of positive thing going on for in the midst of all this.
annanash:
“This is gonna be shocking, but I was actually just the passenger for once.” Annabel laughed lightly. She definitely didn’t have the best driving record around town and it definitely wasn’t a secret to the town so Jonah’s response didn’t come as a surprise to her. “I’m not a maniac and never fled the scene after actually hitting someone’s car. Now.. signs and what not are a different story.”
She shook her head and couldn’t help but laugh slightly. “Well, I'm glad you’re okay. As surprising as that sounds,” Jonah put her phone in her back pocket. All the sounds and vibrations reminded her of everything that needed to get done. “Are you still going to help me with my sample? It’s due in two days and I can’t find anyone else who’s good with pitch. I swear I'll credit you.”
natalie-singer:
“Gosh da- Watch out! Careful, shoot! Sorry!”
“Natalie! B-Be careful I’m---”Jonah bit her tongue and moved out the way, her hand holding onto her stomach. The other’s bike managed to run over her feet instead of her stomach, which is all she would hope for, despite the pain. “It looks like you can use some lessons.”
annanash:
“Okay, so let’s say that I have a friend who was being a distracted driver and while they were distracted they may have ran a stop sign and t-boned someone. No one was hurt. They were only going 30 because ya’ know, neighborhood and stuff, but they did flee the scene. How band is that? Like on a scale of one to ten? How much troubled could they get in? My friend.”
“In other words your friend being yourself?” Jonah shook her head. “I mean nobody being hurt is a good thing, but the fact that you t-boned someone and fled the scene could be a problem.”
As much as Jonah was trying to lessen the pace of how quick her heart was beating, nothing was working. It’s okay. It’ll be okay. Or at least that’s what she liked to believe. Lately, hiding the fact that she switched her usual atttire of crop tops and some type of jeans to baggy shirts and leggings was difficult. At the moment, that’s what was most comfortable. Every day was something new for her. A new sickness or her body changing in some way, shape, or form. It was time to tell Kendall the truth. She couldn’t keep hiding or lying to him anymore. Whether he wanted to be a part of her unborn’s child life was completely up to him. She wasn’t going to force him or bribe him. She was going to take care of her future son or daughter either way. Whether he was helping her out or not. After all, being alone and doing things alone wasn’t something new for her.
As soon as she heard the knock on her door, her heart froze. She could easily lie and not answer, then text him saying she wasn’t home yet. It would later on result on coming up with some excuse of her pretending that she was doing something important. After a while, coming up with lies upon lies, making sure they connect to one another would’ve became way too exhausting. When she opened the door, Jonah moved to the side, so Kendall could step through. "Thanks for the taking the time to come. I've been meaning to talk to you..."

Abel couldn’t help but shake his head. Leave it to Jonah to be the only observant person in town, and the only one who seemed to be connecting the dots. Still, he figured it’d be best to pretend he had no idea what she was talking about. “I work in a bar, so the bar scene isn’t really my scene.” He lied, looking through some vinyls so he wouldn’t have to look at her. He paused for a moment before sighing. “I just kinda wanted to be by a friend. But if you’re too busy, I can leave you alone.”
“It’s not that—“ Jonah stopped mid sentence. “You can stay,” there had always been a part of her that felt guiltly for being cold towards Abel. And then there was another part of her that didn’t feel guilty whatsoever. Melody’s death hadn’t been the easiest thing for her. And not knowing whether she could’ve done something to prevent it from happening, not even knowing the reason why was the most hardest thing she had ever gone through. It was the fact that her best friend's ex-boyfriend was in the same room as her that made Jonah not just upset, but also not wanting to be buddy-buddy either. "We don’t close for another hour, so...”
kendall-monroe:
Kendall spent a lot of time after their breakup actively trying to not imagine Jonah being with anyone else. It still felt like she was his, even though he knew it wasn’t the truth, and that she had every right to find someone else. Maybe, somewhere deep beneath the surface, he had hoped she had moved on to a new man, as even though it would have hurt, it would’ve made letting go a little easier.
“Sorry to hear that,” Kendall said, though he hardly even believed his own words. When she asked if he’d been seeing anyone, he paused, clenching his jaw as he considered what to tell her. Kendall’s past was no secret to anyone– he’d been with plenty of girls and took no shame in it, and though he swore he was a different person now, the breakup with Jonah had messed him up. “Yeah, there was a girl, just for a little while. She was in one of my classes,” he admitted. Better to get the truth out, right? “But it was really short-lived. I just went back to focusing on school after it ended. Not a big deal.”
Her heart felt like it had sunk to her stomach. His words still hadn’t fully processed with her. At the same time though, Jonah wasn’t really surprised. How ridiculous of her to think that Kendall wouldn’t have even attempted to be with someone else. She knew his past, yet for some unknown reason, the thought that maybe things would be different this time was what she was hoping for. She wondered how it was that easy to move on when she was still here with the same feelings she had a year ago. Sadly, people change.
“Oh,” was all she was able to muster out of her lips. “Well, uh, that’s great I guess,” It was ridiculous that there was still some part of her that couldn’t see herself with anyone else but the man in front of her. All the times they’ve spent on the phone, on video, those times she would save up hundreds, even thousands just go and spend a week with him in New York. It all meant something to her, even to this day. They’ve been through so much together that there was no way that getting over him was going to be simple. And now she kind of had to because he had already moved on. Kendall clearly didn’t have feelings for her anymore, so why should she continue having hope that they would go back to how they were? “I’m glad you’re doing well...”
iceydemons:
“To be fair, that was when I was supposed to get off. But fuckin’ Tom called out 45 minuets before his shift so I had to cover until someone could come in.” she explained as she slid in the chair across from Jonah. “I guess.” She whined with a sigh. “It wasn’t this slow all morning. It’s the worst around 6 to 7 and who’s awake enough to deal with other barely away, grumpy people. It’s the worst.” She laughed.
“It's late anyway, like what exciting thing did you have in mind?" Jonah asked her curiously. "And that's why I would never actually want to be a barista. I think the worst type of customer service is anything regarding food or beverages, honestly,” the girl shook her head, laughing slightly. “I mean the only rude customers I get are about the album they’re looking for not being in stock, or something regarding instruments,” Jonah shrugged her shoulders. “I can handle things like that because it’s easy to divert them away from whatever their feeling by telling them we’ll have it in stock within a week, but I won’t be able to imagine how annoying having a customer come to me wanting me to remake her coffee because I put too much cream or I did something wrong.”
“His arms are home. And I’m so homesick.”

“You underestimate me. I think I could bring a whole house to rubble if I put my mind to it.” he chuckled, audibly nervous. He kept a few paces behind her at all times. Partly, as he felt she was the leader and adult of the situation and also because he could turn and run at the drop of a hat without crashing into her. As she opened the door his eyes widened in awe of all the equipment strewn around. “Wow. It looks wonderful!” a small voice escaped his lips. His will to tinker around overtook his nerves and he immediately began inspecting all the gear. “You sure you don’t mind if I…?”
“I used to think that way too,” Jonah shook her head. A part of that side of her still lingered. She knew how Baylen felt very well. “I don’t think you can. You’d be surprised what you can be capable of. It took me a while to know that myself,” she added as she walked around the studio. “Go ahead. I told you I trust you.”

“well yeah nothing good really comes out of being lazy but it’s not your fault you got bad food, whoever cooked for you should get fired.”
“A bit harsh, no? I mean that person can have a family or something. I'm over it. I guess they'll learn.”

Abel’s smile fell a little at her response, and the cold feeling he got from her. It had been this way since Mel, and all Abel wanted was to connect with Jonah. “No, I don’t want to keep you from your job. I’ll just browse around until you need me out.”
Jonah sighed at the fact that Abel was planning on staying until closing. She wanted him as far away from her as possible. It was already difficult to work without thinking of Melody. They were always working together, Jonah had trained her, but everything was all different now and having Abel around wasn’t helping her erase her best friend from her mind. “You sure? You don’t have any plans?” she asked as she began putting the box away, then went back to the registers. “I mean you’re pretty keen on drinking, right? No bar tonight? I’m surprised you’re not drunk right now.”
