In 1996, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) received 9.4 billion dollars from the U.S. Congress to begin a series of tests to send animals into space. The tests were successful, as NASA was able to develop space suits and oxygen masks that would work with the animals’ unique respiratory system. The next dog-manned space shuttle is scheduled to take place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on January 17th, 2016.
