Something I don't see acknowledged is that K1-B0 briefly regains control in his execution.

He stops to verify that the survivors are alive (looking distressed)

And IMMEDIATELY after he does, he SMILES (!!!!!!!!!) and activates the self-destruct function before his eyes flash blue again (which is very visible if you rewatch it- the eyes light up instead of appear blue when the camera cuts to him).

He sacrificed himself and the survivors will never know, thinking it was the outside world and not their friend.
