Steph nods and fumbles with the lock, trying her best to remember how to use the lock. She hasn't used her locker since freshman year, so her fingers were clumsy on the dial, but after a few attempts she figured it out and opened the locker.
"And you'd think Max would want to be better considering he is lucky to even be offered a scholarship..." she mumbles, not wanting Max to hear despite the fact he told her years ago the same thing. He really wasn't that good of a football player in the grand scheme of things, but some small program was desperate for a backup QB, and Max ended up benefitting.
"Thanks." Pete said, rummaging in his locker as it was opened. Hard to do it in this state, but, he luckily did keep it pretty organized.
"Max will do what Max wants to do. It's his world, and the rest of us are living in it." Pete mumbled back, trying not to sound too bitter. It sounded like the blurry girl was close with Jaegerman, and he didn't want to piss her off by trash talking him.
"Ah, Eureka." Pete felt his spare pair of glasses in his locker. The frames were somehow worse, and the bridge and one of the arms was held together with tape, but he'd be able to see and get home without causing an accident.
Finally, with vision restored, he turned to face - Stephanie Lauter...
Pete's eyes widened, and he felt his face flush a little as he gulped and tried to remember how to talk normally again. No wonder he didn't recognize her voice, he's avoided talking to her since highschool started.
"... Thanks for being my only hope today."
Steph smirks a bit at his face flushing, which would probably seem a lot meaner if a blush didn't creep onto her face as well.
"Not a problem... but you did mention earlier that you owe me one. I need a tutor. My dad already took my phone and he is threatening to take my car if I can't get my econ grade up. You're like. Good at that shit right?" She asks him.
She didn't even really understand how her dad could justify taking her keys, other than the fact he pays for her insurance. But Steph pays for her own gas and does almost all of her own repairs and the car is in her name. Sure, it was all with allowance money (it would be a bad look for the Mayor not to be able to take care of his own daughter) but still, it was hers. She couldn't afford for even that freedom to go out the window.
