Questions of the Week
What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?
A big thing that helps me stay intrested and inspired to create is speaking with my village, my community of fellow artists to see what they have been thinking about, experiencing, and trying out in their art. I like seeing what has inspired them and whter it inspires me too. A big way to keep myself motivated is work in the same space as other artists. If I'm in a space where someone else is working, I want to work too, because being in community with others helps me to be creative and also desire to work.
Can art provoke change or transform our way of thinking? How?
YES! Art often has deep meaning and intentional messages behind it. It can inspire us to look at the world in a new way (in a literal visual sense or in a metaphorical sense in reference to politics, worldview, experiences, etc.) For example, there is a filmed video that portrays the way someone with schizophrenia may experience the world. As someone who has no tangible knowledge of this mental disorder (beyond facts in a book), it can help us to understand what others are going through better and have more compassion and kindness.
