Daphne understood overbearing parents. Even if hers separated themselves from her magic frequently, they still managed to give their opinions regarding her life. Truth be told, she sought their approval. “What’s FiendFyre?” She tilted her head to the side, feeling somewhat bashful for being so out of the know. 

“It’s umm well I kind of want to tell you, but it’d be even more interesting if you saw it for yourself” Vinny had a childish smirk on his face “You know what? Just click it”

Frances: "That."

Vinicius: "Jeez. Someone didn't have a good day"

Daphne tilted her head to the side, finding the statement interesting. “What brought you to Hogwarts?” She didn’t ask in an accusatory way, not in the slightest, but she let curiosity lead her. Daphne reached for the iFlown with wide eyes, glancing at the outside with delicate care, as if she would break it. 

“My parents insisted on me coming here, I didn’t have the heart to tell them no” It was partly true. His parents did insist and he didn’t refuted once, although it was more a scape and not so much an academic thing. “It’s ok, just don’t go into the FiendFyre app,,, It could be embarrassing for me” Vinny laughed a bit nervous, he had created an account just to try but his profile didn’t exactly defined him.

“Are you?” Daphne brightened. Of course, she hardly her way around an oven herself, growing up with a housekeeper, but Vinny’s interest excited her none-the-less. “I have thought about getting one of those—they look terribly exciting, don’t they? Have you used one before? Are they hard to figure out?” 

“Yeah! I’d rather not use magic at all to be honest.” Vinny felt relieved to say that out loud. For some reason he felt he wouldn’t be judged this time. A pureblood who hates magic?. “Yeah, my parents got me one, although I’m a little scared of using it. Here, give it a try”

“Yeah you are- Vinny almost smiled at the funny expression- I’d like to know if everyone feels the same though”

Asher continued to give Vinny a strange look, his eyes scanning around them to see if he could pawn the boy off on someone else. When no help was to be found, he sighed. “You can call me Asher, or Avery. I’m a Prefect, you don’t pay me anything.”

“Asher” Vinny’s face changed in the blink of an eye. He repeated Asher’s name with a cold look. He let a few seconds pass before opening his mouth again but keeping the cold expression although it was tinted with fear now. “Asher do you feel safe here?”

“I’ve heard there’s a Herbology course on preparing cuisine around the world, if you’re interested. Maybe there’s a lecture on baking.” Daphne smiled warmly as she held up a hand to decline the baked good, not finding herself particularly hungry at the moment. “Oh, I just wanted to jot down a thought that came to mind, or else I’ll forget it, but that’s alright. If it’s meant to be, I’ll remember.”

“Thanks! but I don’t think that’s for me, I mean there’s gonna be magic involved. I guess I’m more interested in the muggle baking way” He did tried using magic to bake but he ended up with flour all over his face and the sugar didn’t came out of his hair in more than a week, one more reason to hate magic. “I like that you choose to actually write, lately I’ve seen a lot of people replacing everything for this iFlown thing”

Asher grimaced at the hug, wondering when his classmate might get the idea that hugging wasn’t at the top of his list of preferred activities. “No, they already did the Quidditch thing before this. I think we’re safe for now. No trust falls.”

Vinny felt some relive, he sucked at anything involving physical effort. “Right!, Ammm what’s left to do for us then captain? Should I call you that? Maybe Boss sounds better, oh no wait what about Sir? Should I call you Sir?”

Daphne chuckled lightly as she listened to the wizard. “I believe it’s head, but it is a bit of an odd saying, isn’t it?” Daphne posessed a tendency to be forgetful herself and had heard the saying more than a few times from her mother. “Oh! Did you bake these?” 

“I wish. I bought them but my addiction is forcing me to consider some kind of baking classes or something” Vinny always carried a bunch of cookies anywhere he went, they seemed to be the only thing he’d never forget to bring with him. “What did you need the quill for anyway?”

“Most of the time, yeah.” James didn’t need convincing to take the biscuit, waving it at the other wizard. “What’s the pictures for?”

“Ow I thought I already explained, my bad. I’m making this article about student’s summer, I’m planning on adding a picture next to each student’s story” His face changed a little “You know, I would love to make an article about you, I mean I’m sure you’ve got so much more to share”

Asher stood off to the side, away from the crowd. He was trying his best to keep his smile plastered onto his face, taking time to glue it back on whenever it felt like it was slipping. Everything so far had felt easy to him. He had always been a people-oriented human being, always getting his energy from others. It was life that made him fucking exhausted. That made his eyes weary as he looked around the garden, at people he might someday call friend.

He was busy poking at a piece of meat when he felt a shadow stand next to him. “Not one for crowds?”

“Absolutely not!” He smiled, Vinny was so happy to see Asher, he felt a little bit lost but know at least he had a familiar face to focus on. He proceeded to hug Asher, he was sure he hated it but of course Vinny didn’t know for sure and that was enough reason for him to keep doing it. “Food was great though. Please tell me we’re not doing some kind of physical thing, I’d hate to see my food again if you know what I mean”

Daphne brightened for a moment until her smile settled. “Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s my fault, anyway. I don’t believe I’m quite used to not being in the castle and having to bring all my supplies with me.”

“Yeah me too, I mean you know what they say, if I hadn’t my shoulders,,, wait no it doesn’t go like that. If your head wasn’t attached to your body? That doesn’t sound right either- he started to blush a little- you get the idea right? Anyway, can I offer you a cookie instead?”

“In Hogwarts? It’s hardly breaking in when you live in a place.” James could’ve mentioned the secret tunnels, and the sneaking around the places students weren’t supposed to go, but that was secret for a reason. The second question caught him off guard, and it sat uncomfortably. “If I thought that, I probably wouldn’t have let them arrest me, don’t you think?”

“You are so right!” Vinny forced his face to keep smiling at James “Are you full of clever answers all the time?” He started to feel as his blood rushed through his face and his fists closed tightly, although he didn’t move his sight from James’s face, examining every single one of his expressions, he knew things weren’t as clear as James said. ”You know what? You deserve a cookie, would you accept it please?
