Coming To Terms || Chamlock, Carrie and Jonathan Evans
Where: Chamlock’s residence
Notes: Warlock and Chameleon gets a visit from Warlock’s parents, and decisions have to be made.
Warlock was having a great day with Joshua and Mercha. After the debacle with Mrs. Thomas, they had been really happy. He was packing them lunch for the picnic that they had planned when he heard the door bell. "I'll get it." He told Mercha, kissing both her and Joshua before going to open the door. The smile on his face dropped seeing his father and mother on the other end. "Mom..." He smiled at his mother, "And you..." He glared at his father. "Come in, mom. He is not welcome here, so you have to go."
Carrie hated the rift between her son and husband. She had heard what Jonathan tried to do and was angered that she had tried to get Joshua taken away. "I'm telling you right now, Jonathan Evans, if you make a scene and do not apologize to both our son and Chameleon, you and I are through..." She warned him before ringing the doorbell. Warlock answered the door and told them that Jonathan was not invited to come inside. "Could you make an exception for today? Your father has a lot to apologize for. Aren't I right, Jonathan?"
Jonathan was not looking forward to seeing Chameleon or Warlock after his plan to take Joshua away had failed. Mrs. Thomas called him to inform him that Warlock and Chameleon were proven to be excellent parents and that his fears for Joshua were not warranted. His wife was mad at him, and was forcing him to apologize to both of them. "Fine Carrie, I will apologize, but I don't think they will be interested in hearing it." His words came true as Warlock opened the door and told him he wasn't welcomed there. "Son please, I came here to apologize to you and Chameleon."
Chameleon was sitting in the kitchen holding Joshua, "Are you ready for the picnic little man? Daddy planned a nice picnic for us." She looked up when she heard the doorbell, and smiled when Lock said he'll get it. "Okay babe, I'll finish packing the basket." She was doing just that when she noticed it was taking Lock longer than normal to come back. She picked up Joshua, "Come on my, let's go see what's taking daddy so long." They walked into the living room, "Babe what's going...." She saw Warlock's parents and she rolled her eyes, "How is it that every time we are having a good day, you show up? I am done trying to be nice to you, Mrs. Evans, you are more than welcome to come in, but you...I won't put my son through your brand of evil." She turned to Lock, "He has to go, I so can't with him."
Warlock didn't want to have anything to do with Jonathan. He tried to get his son taken away, therefore he deemed the older blond his enemy. "I'm sorry, mom, you know I love you, but I can't let him enter my home. He tried to get my son taken away. Why? All because he hates my wife who by the way has never done anything to harm him." He shook his head and wrapped an arm around Mercha's waist to show solidarity. "Mercha is right, he can't stay. I won't let him do anymore harm to my family. Sorry mom..."
Carrie was hoping that her son and daughter in law would at least try to give Jonathan a try but they wouldn't. Not that she blamed them. Jonathan deserved to be shunned. She would have killed him if he had pulled something like that on her. But when it came down to it, she needed to try to put their family together, "I know you two don't want to have anything to do with Jonathan and I understand, but can you please do me this one favor." She looked at both Warlock and Chameleon pleadingly.
Jonathan sighed and looked over at his wife, "I told you they wouldn't listen to me." He watched as Carrie tried to plead his case, and he needed to make things right to keep the peace in his house. "Listen, I know what I did was terrible and I'm truly sorry, but I just want to make things right. Please give me the opportunity to do that." He hoped this was enough to get him in the house, he was really ready to let this go, and be a part of his grandson's life, and if accepting Chameleon was going to make that happen, then so be it.
Warlock was throwing daggers at Jonathan with his gaze. There was no way he was going to let that man hurt his family again. NO WAY! "I'm not interested in anything that man has to say. He has burn his bridges with me." He wanted to throw him out and be done with him forever, but Mercha was saying that they should give him a chance. "Fine... He gets one more chance but if I hear you disrespecting my wife, you're gone."
Carrie had been hoping that Warlock would at least give Jonathan a chance but he was being stubborn. It wasn't until Chameleon said something that he soften. Smiling at Chameleon, she said, "Thank you. I promise that he will behave himself." She looked at Jonathan, "Right, Jonathan..."
Chameleon was so thankful that Lock was standing with her, even though she knew it was probably killing him to be like that because it was his parents. She listened as Carrie and Jonathan pleaded his case, and she wasn't going to budge on her decision, but she looked at Joshua, and she knew he needed grandparents in his life, especially since he could never meet her parents, not that she would want to. She took a deep breath and looked at Lock, "I guess we should give him one more chance." She quickly turned to Jonathan, "But if you even say one thing negative about me or Lock, I will have him escort you out, never to return again." She stepped back so they can step in. "She stopped Lock, "One word baby." And she pointed towards the door.
Jonathan did not think he would even get in the door, and his son was not going to let him either, but surprisingly Chameleon was the one to talk him down. He could see the love they had for each other, and how much his son adored her, but he still had some doubts about her. He just needed to figure her out. "I promise I will not say anything disrespectful to Chameleon"
Chameleon rubbed Warlock's shoulder to calm him down. She wanted to see if Jonathan was actually going to keep his word. She went and took a seat, still holding Joshua on her lap. "So why are you here? You have something you want to say to us, then the floor is yours." She wasn't convinced of this whole apology act, but she was willing to hear him out, for Lock, and for Joshua.
"Good, because if you disrespect my wife in anyway, you are out of here." Warlock was still glaring at Jonathan but the feel of Mercha's soft hands massaging his shoulders somewhat calmed him down. Letting his wife lead the way, he sat down next to her and wrapped a protective around around her shoulders. He didn't bother to talk, he was only here because Mercha wanted him to give Jonathan a chance and he was doing this out of his love and respect for her.
Carrie was relieved when Warlock allowed Jonathan to enter his home. She followed them silently and sat down on the same couch as Jonathan but a distant away. "Yes, Jonathan, tell them what you came here for."
Jonathan took a seat and looked over to how far away Carrie was sitting, it was hurtful, but he deserved it. "I came here to say I am sorry for trying to get Joshua taken away. I let my personal opinions get in the way of rational thinking. I knew you were good parents, all you have to o is look at the smile on Joshua's face to know that he is a happy little boy. I guess I was just so angry with you son, for how you brought Chameleon to us. We had never met her, or never even heard of her, and then all of a sudden you bring her to our home and say Mom dad meet my wife who's pregnant. It was so sudden, and I handled it entirely wrong, and I'm sorry. I should have found out more about you Chameleon, instead of making a snap decision about you, and for that I am sorry." He didn't know if they were going to accept his apology, but it was the best he could do.
Chameleon sat there listening to Jonathan, and his words were nice, but she still didn't trust him. She was holding on to Joshua, and leaning into Lock with a stern look on her face. After Jonathan finished his speech, she handed the baby to Lock, "I have a few questions, Did you ever consider how much I love your son? Did you even wonder why he loves me? You should have trusted your son’s decision in picking a wife to know that he was going to marry someone worthy of him. Now trust me, I didn't always feel I was, but Lock let me know that I was, and he loves me with all his heart and soul, and I feel the exact same way. And from that love came Joshua, and for you to try to take that love away from me was wrong, very wrong, and I don't know if I am able to forgive you personally."
Warlock had no words to say to Jonathan, he was only here because Mercha wanted him to let Jonathan get his chance to speak, but if it were up to him, the older man would be out the door now. Holding his wife closer to him, he listened as Jonathan apologized. He didn't know if Jonathan was sincere in his regrets, and at this point, he really didn't care. Warlock was going to protect his Mercha and Joshua no matter what. He heard Mercha's questions and all he did was raise a brow, waiting for Jonathan to answer. He didn't blame his wife if she never wanted to forgive Jonathan because he himself wouldn't be able to do it.
Carrie was happy that Jonathan had apologized to Chameleon. He didn't have the right to do what he did and although she too didn't like that Warlock had married Chameleon, she soon grew to see how much they both loved each other and even with all their differences, she chose to see the good in her. She too was wrong for having ill thoughts about Chameleon so she felt the need to apologize, "I should apologize to you too Chameleon. I'm sorry that I too blind to see what a wonderful person you are. I can't blame anyone for my actions but myself and you might not know this because I have never said it to you before, but I am really glad to have you as my daughter-in-law. I have never seen Warlock light up the way he did and I want to thank you for not only making him happy but also for giving birth and caring for Joshua."
Jonathan listened to the questions Chameleon asked him, and he had to admit that he didn't think about any of those things. He was so wrapped up in his own feelings, that he didn't see the love between Warlock and Chameleon. He dropped his head after Chameleon said she didn't know if she could ever forgive him. "I totally understand if you have doubts still about me, but I will say this, I am going to show you that I truly mean what I said about getting to know you Chameleon, even if it means waiting on you to give me a chance. I won't give up, because my family is way too important to me, and you are a part of my family. I need to be a part of my grandson's life, and in order for me to do that, I have to make things right between you and my son. So as long as it takes, I will make this right between us."
Chameleon sat there stone faced, trying not to care, but it was getting harder and harder for her. Deep down she knew that all she'd ever wanted was to be accepted and Lock always made her feel that way, but for some reason, she wanted that from his parents. It probably had everything to do with the fact that she never got acceptance from her own parents, so to then turn around and have the same treatment from Lock's parents was difficult to handle. She squeezed Lock's hand hearing the heartfelt apology coming from Carrie, she felt like the world was lifting off her shoulders. "Thank you for saying that Carrie, I really do love your son, and I will always put his and Joshua's needs before my own. He makes me light up too, and I have become a better woman because of him." She looked at Jonathan, "I really want to believe that Jonathan, because I want Joshua to know his grandparents, he needs that, but I have to positive to know that you won't be spreading any lies or spewing hate. So I'm willing to take baby steps with you, we were going on a picnic, and we would like to have the both of you join us if you can."
Warlock really didn't have words to say to Jonathan. He couldn't find it in his heart to forgive him just yet so he simply said, "You will only get my forgiveness after you've proven yourself and that will take a long time. You hurt my wife. The one woman who has loved me and taken care of me through thick and thin and I can't forgive what you tried to do to her that easily." He smiled at his mother, grateful that she too had apologized to Mercha. "Thanks for seeing what a great person my Mercha is, mom. She does love me and I love her too, with all my heart." Mercha suggested that his parents join him on their picnic and he nodded in agreement. "Yes, join us. We are just about to live." He said without looking at Jonathan.
Carrie was happy that Chameleon had accepted her apology. All she wanted was to make peace and to have the family that she almost lost. "Thank you for accepting my apology Chameleon. It means the world to me." She knew that it was going to take time for both Warlock and Chameleon to forgive Jonathan so she didn't blame them for what they were saying. They suggested that Jonathan and her join them on a picnic and she smiled, "We would love to join the both of you. Right, Jonathan?" She looked at her husband pleadingly.
Jonathan didn't know what else he can say or do, but he had to deal with whatever Chameleon and Warlock said. He shook his head, "I know it is going to take some time for me to earn both of your forgiveness, and I am willing to take all the time I need to earn it. I love my son, and I love my grandson, and they both love you Chameleon, so I will do my best to get you to trust me. I can see that my son picked a good woman in you Chameleon, and I know it took a long time and some craziness for me to figure it out, but I see it now that you are the perfect match for my son." He smiled and nodded, "We would love to go with you on your picnic, thank you for inviting us." He smiled at his wife in hopes that soon she will forgive him as well.
Chameleon knew that Lock was not going to forgive his dad that easy, he was very protective of her, and she loved that about him. She also loved that he was a family man, and she didn't want this to keep his family apart. She rubbed his arm as he talked to his father. "It's okay babe, I am sure your father knows that it is going to take a long time for us to just let go, but we can forgive. I know that forgiveness is the first step to moving on, and we want to move on, so I forgive you Jonathan, but please know I do not forget, and I will not let this happen again. I love my family, and I have this instinct to fight when I feel my family is in danger. I restrained myself the last time, I will not do that again." She handed Joshua to Carrie, "You guys watch Joshua, while Lock and I finish packing the food for the picnic." She grabbed Lock's hand, led him to the kitchen, and instantly hugged him, "Babe, we're doing the right thing right? Joshua needs his grandparents." She kissed him sweetly on the lips, "I love you Lock, I just want you to know that." She kissed him one last time and they packed the rest of the food, and went to enjoy their family picnic.
