Isolated System✗Steve & Bucky
At the mention of being fine Steve pursed his lips and then looked over at the owner of the coffee shop as she came over to say hi. “Stay right here.” He told Bucky softly before he stood up and lead Courtney away from the table, knowing Bucky wouldn’t be too ready for many other people just yet. He was gone only for a few minutes but when he returned he had two sandwiches with him, one of which he placed in front of Bucky and then added a bottle of water he’d had tucked under his arm. He remembered all the time Bucky had done his best to take care of them when they were kids, and now it was Steve’s turn, he had to help his old friend in any way he possibly could. “I’m sure you have a lot of questions.” He said after a moment as he opened his own bottle of water and took a sip of it. “I’ll answer everything to the best of my ability.”
Bucky stayed perfectly still. He could hear the soft murmur of the dozens of conversations taking place in the shop, though he couldn’t pinpoint Steve’s voice. That worried him. He didn’t come all the way to New York to find him just to lose him a few minutes later. Bucky was debating if he should get up and look for him, tear the place apart if need be, but then he was coming back. With food. Eying it wearily, he waited until Steve took a sip before grabbing his own bottle. After a tentative sip, he practically chugged the bottle. It tasted fine, meaning the chances of it being poisoned were slim. “You’re Steve Rogers. Captain America.” Not a question but a statement. “I’m... Bucky?” he asked quietly. His name was James Barnes, he knew that, but the nickname sounded unfamiliar though it felt... right.
