Haylon felt proud of Jai, glad he helped him to success. The boy was bright, he was glad he survived. And now, he held someoneâs life in his hands. Haylon looked around the clearing at the remaining tributes. Which would he kill? He had the power to be the reaper in his hands.
Ava cringed at the sight of her tribute being ripped apart. Though she may have been rotten, Ariana didnât deserve that. None of these first-years deserved this. Her focus shifted as the six tributes were left alone once again, this time with Haylon allowed one killing curse.
Bex felt like she had been cut open, she told Elladora she was going to be fine! She lied and had to hold back her tears when she saw the whites leave the young first years eye. She felt like she had let Elladora and Elladoraâs family down, she looked so brave out there! She bit her soft flesh in her mouth and a tiny bit of blood came out but she didnât care all she saw was a young girl lying motionless her auburn hair coated in her own blood and her face so pale she could be a ghost.Â
The golden tree burnt itself out in seconds. Miggyâs body was beneath it, crushed, burnt, and betrayed. Lewis didnât know what to do, what to say, where to go. He watched the gamemakers apparate the winner out of the arena and he just stood staring at the tree. He couldnât stop.
The doors to the glass boxes opened. Haylon's original target was Lewis, but after recalling the private training score, his was now after Ava. The minute the glass doors opened, however, Ava leapt out and zoomed away on her broom. There was no defense against a killing curse, so she used a tactic she thought would best protect her: distance. Ava figured Haylon would rather kill someone in close range than someone he couldnât aim at accurately. She flew as fast and as far away as she possibly could, keeping her flight path erratic so that she wouldnât be easily targeted. For the first time, Ava was genuinely scared. Haylon was aiming his wand, waiting for the right moment to shoot Ava down.
Tagan, however, angry at her defeat, dashed over to Venus with a throwing star held in hand. Venus' face was red and blotchy, clearly saddened by Jimmy's death. âTagan!â Lewis screamed, âWhat are you doing!?â
âSurvival tip,â she replied, ripping a throwing star across Venusâ throat, âKill or be killed.â
Lewis felt a chill run down his spine as he saw Venusâ blood spurting up in Taganâs face, and down the front of her clothes. She didnât seem phased by it at all. He had never seen this side of her before.
Haylon then admitted defeat and let the evasive Ava get away. He turned around to see Tagan jump on him, trying to slash at his neck. Instantly he said the deadly words: "Avada Kedavra!" Tagan's lifeless body slumped on the floor. Two cannons fired.Â
Haylon, Bex and Lewis all shared a look before each disappeared off into the dark, ever so dark, forest.
