“You know, Mikey, if you’d hold still it wouldn’t hurt as much.”
Stitching up injuries on his siblings was never one of his favorite activities. Though he had a steady enough hand and he’d long since gotten used to the sight of blood, it was a bitter reminder of the fact that, at the end of the day, th ey were mortal.
Not that the thought ever left his head. His hands and arms were covered with faint scars and burns from his time in the lab. But his brothers sometimes acted like they were invincible.
So he put a hand on his little brother’s shoulder, firm and careful, to try to give him some stability as he worked.
“It’ll just be a few more minutes, all right?”
@the2012turtles
MIKEY CONTINUED TO FIDGET IN HIS SEAT.
He really tried to hold still to let Donnie finish stitching up his wounds, but between the pain of the injury and him just no longer wanting to be confined to the chair in the med bay, the concept of sitting still seemed near impossible.
“ I’m sorry, Dee! I’m trying I swear, but it hurts. ” Not to mention there were a million and one better things that he could be doing rather than making sure he didn’t bleed out through his forearm. Like video games, or watching movies, or making a pizza, or hanging with kitty, or literally anything.
“ I don’t think it was even that bad.” The word was drawn out in a wine. “ Like, couldn’t ya’ve just slapped a band-aid on it or som’thin’? ” He asked, though he was pointedly not looking at his injury which gave away how bad he really thought it was.

🐍 watching as he, very purposely, pushed a specific panel on the wall, the princess’s last thoughts were certainly not ‘ he’s going to show me the coolest thing i’ve ever seen. ’ still, here they were now, her eyes wide with wonder as her jaw practically fell to the floor. she immediately dropped the fabric of her dress she was holding as she walked, the sound of her gown brushing against the floor was the only noise that could be heard. she wondered what she did to deserve this sort of surprise, but wouldn’t dare ruin this experience by showing him he’d made the wrong choice.
her eyes connected with the wooden staircase that sat at the end of the dark hallway, which somehow seemed to evoke a sense of excitement and intrigue rather than the hollow, fear she would usually feel when faced with a darkened, unknown area such as this. she disconnected her gaze from the call for adventure that laid in front of her, to look back at the man who offered her this chance in the first place.
“ intrigued ?? how about i honestly can’t even sit still anticipating what’s next. ”
she came face to face with his smile as she spoke, realizing she hadn’t yet seen it. the evil villain he once was in her mind, was completely erased to show a soft, kindness in its place. as if she was seeing him for the first time, her eyes finally allowed her to see him for the ally and potential friend he actually was. she matched his smile with her own, as a sparkle of excitement glimmered in her eyes.
“ if getting to know you involves this, i shouldn’t of wasted my time mad. ”
DONNIE’S SMILE ONLY TURNS LOPSIDED AT HER WORDS, reaching his eyes to seem mischievous instead of malicious like it had just under an hour ago.
“ You’d be surprised how many people have said that to me. ” Donnie replied, though really, only one person came to mind and the thought of him was enough to almost turn his mood again.
He wouldn’t let it, however, instead leading the way into the dark passageway and towards the staircase.
“ They’re servant halls. Built with the idea that servants should only work and not be seen nor interacted with. ” He explained to Karai as he begun to lead them up the staircase, a single destination in mind that he thought Karai might appreciate. “ Not really used much anymore by anyone other than myself, my brother’s and a few select employees who know enough about them to not get lost. They can make getting around the castle that much easier and people don’t often think to look for us in them or in the nooks and crannies that they lead to. ”
Once they were at the top of the staircase, he led them down another hall leading to a ladder going upwards. The hall was lit from above by large windows and he wasted no time in beginning his assent.
He waited for Karai to follow him at the top of the ladder before he opened a window and stepped out onto the secluded balcony. The entire castle grounds were on display for them, but more importantly, directly below them was a perfect line of sight to the glass ceiling of the dojo, where his brothers, April and Casey were currently waiting for the ceremony. Most importantly, where Casey was currently sparring with Raph.
“ So, what do you think? ” Donnie asked her, leaning against the balcony railing and trying not to openly gawk at the display below him.
// might fuck around and actually be active on here tomorrow lol

🐍 she felt a jolt as he spoke. she hadn’t expected him to bring that up, certainly not so bluntly. hamato yoshi’s death had meant so many different things to him than it ever did to her. she could only begin to relate with the death of oroku saki .. that name sending a rush of emotions within her once more. she stopped herself. this boy who had always been so strong for everyone at long last deserved a break.
“ you could’ve. i wouldn’t of blamed you. ”
she struggled with what to say to him. her usual awkward jokes felt out of place. she leaned away from him for a moment, opting to take the moment to really see him and let him do the same. they were similar in more ways than either of them realized. the similarities often being things he felt he needed to hide from everyone, but she hoped PERHAPS not from her.
“ i know you miss him and it gets overwhelming. but, don’t forget, i can cover for you when you need to step away. hell, go and run if you want. i’ll catch up when i get the chance. ”
HEARING KARAI TELL HIM THAT, THAT SHE WOULDN’T HAVE BLAMED HIM, helps to lift a weight he hadn’t even realize was sitting on his shoulders.
Just one person telling him that he wasn’t awful for the thoughts he had had while they buried their father made him feel lighter. A part of him wondering if his brothers would have thought the same. Had they all stood around their father’s grave wishing they could escape this life now that their guiding light was gone? Losing their father had opened a brand-new chapter in their lives, but it was a chapter they hadn’t expected to see for many years.
He leans closer to Karai, his voice just barely above a whisper.
“ I wouldn’t even know where to go. ”

🐍 “ i- ”
she watched him process his emotions, not quite grasping exactly which one he landed on. OF COURSE she had no right to judge his confusing jumble of feelings as they were currently matching her own. the anger she was feeling towards him when they had first entered the library was being smudged away rather rapidly, a sense of understanding being etched in its place. he didn’t want this just as much as she didn’t. she used him like a punching bag because too often she had nothing to hit at. years of holding back her feelings was only turning her into a ticking time bomb, which ironically exploded at the one person that could relate to her the most.
“ i was wrong. ”
she began to sit down, releasing one firm breath through her nose. she suddenly felt as though she couldn’t look him in the eyes, electing to look in his general direction instead. her gaze softened as she leaned back into her chair. pursing her lips, she looked up to the ceiling, the intricate artwork sketched within the spaces between the wooden beams catching her gaze for the first time. bringing her sight back down to the boy in front of her, for the first time she saw him for what he really was .. an ally.
“ everything sucks. and i mean, i suck. a lot. ”
her final comment was followed by a hollow laugh. her eyes began to glaze over as she spoke. the sunlight, softer now, reflecting in them. she let out an irritated huff at herself as she struggled with the words. looking to the side, her mouth hung open, as she searched for what to say.
“ i’m not a good with words. but i owe you an apology. none of this is your fault. i always knew that but i just, i guess i’m just sorta mean ?? my mother and father loved each other. i read their letters they would write before my mother passed. she called him her person. her everything. and it’s stupid to say out loud but i always wanted what they had. and to know my father will just take that from me and force me to marry for anything but love .. i guess what i’m saying is we both deserve to be loved not used as political pawns. ”
AS KARAI FINALLY SAT BACK DOWN donnie began to feel a bit more at ease.
He listened to her apology again, a proper apology this time, and as she finished speaking he let her words settle around them. He watched as the sun shone through the windows and illuminated the room in a golden glow. The browns of the wood work became warmer, and dust particles danced around them as the silence sat, broken a few moments later as Donnie finally replied.
“ You’re not entirely to blame, I suppose. I ended up being a bit more upset than I had originally intended when I heard the news. ” He holds up his bandaged hand for proof before he continues to explain.
“ I never expected to marry for love. ”
He confessed. “ When you’re a king, there are only so many reasons to have more than one son. Only one can become the heir to the throne, afterall. Leonardo is the oldest, obviously the position belongs to him, and it suits him. Raphael’s position was clear since we began learning to fight, he was born to lead our army. Myself, however, well, there’s only so many reasons to have a third son, and, unfortunately, most of them are for political gain. I guess a part of me had just hoped… ”
Donnie sighed longingly before he shook his head, almost as if shaking away the thoughts themselves and stands back up.
“ Let’s get out of here, huh? Their intent was for us to get to know each other, so they won’t come to get us until the sun begins to set. ” He tells her, before he turns around and makes his way to the back of the library.
Its darker as he goes, the light from the sun not quite reaching the back corners of the large room, but that doesn’t stop him from walking up to a specific wall and pushing a hidden panel to the side, uncovering a hidden doorway in the wall that lead into a dark hallway, a wooden stairwell at the end of it.
He looks back at her, producing his first smile that day.
“ Intrigued? ”

🐍 “ you’re trying to make me feel bad and yeah okay it’s working. LOOK i get it, i’m the asshole that yelled at you in the library because i’m too bratty to pull it together the way you’ve done. maybe they’ll present you with your reward tonight. ”
her tone was harsh as the sarcasm hissed out. she felt her grip on the chair get tighter as her blood was boiling over. her eyes squeezed shut as she attempted to decipher the terrifyingly massive tornado that currently swirled around her, catching a glimpse of at least five different feelings as it came her way.
a pause.
“ i don’t just want leo because he’s not you. i want him ‘cause i love him !! i never wanted to be a token my father could just throw around wherever he saw fit but apparently that’s all i am to him. i know in my heart that you are not my enemy. apparently we have even more in common than i thought. ”
that sudden realization hit her HARD. she felt .. bad ?? her tone was defeated, her voice tiptoeing out, accompanied by a soft rasp from her previous screaming and crying. she kept her gaze ahead of her, as if she was speaking to the floorboards. to say she felt embarrassed was an understatement.
“ i hadn’t realized you also had someone else. ”
she turned to look at him. she hadn’t known how big of a heart she apparently had and currently hated herself for feeling sorrow, pity, g u i l t.
“ i’m sorry about whoever she is. ”
DONNIE KEPT HIS EYES TRAINED ON THE TABLE, almost refusing to respond to her words. He barely had the energy to keep his head upright, let alone respond to the mocking tone in which she ‘apologized’ in. If he could even consider her words and apology.
He let out a snort of laughter at the word love, because he was well aware of the fact that Leo and Karai had met exactly one time before tonight, but he wasn’t going to bring it up to her. Not now. Not after all he had just said. He peaked up at her through his bangs as she admitted to their c o m m o n g r o u n d, watching her emotions move from one to another as she seemingly came to this realization for the first time.
He was still staring at her when she suddenly looked at him and their eyes met. He debated on looking away but instead held the look as her emotions flipped through a few new ones. He recognized at least one of which as pity which turned his stomach in a weird way, but not more than her next comment did.
SHE.
One word was able to turn his stomach so completely that he felt physically ill. Because why would Karai assume that they were anything but a she? And the thought made him angry all over again, but not at Karai this time, surprisingly enough. Instead he was ANGRY at the situation, at his father, and at the world.
He leaned back in his seat; shoulder’s slumped and hair still obscuring one eye from view. He let out a deep sigh, the breath he had been holding since she [kind of?] mentioned Casey. The she in question, Donnie supposed.
“ It doesn’t matter. I had no real chance with them anyway… ” His voice was nervous, his eyes glinting away once he said it in hopes that she wouldn’t ask any more about his ‘someone else.’
tatorumaunten:
{~ℒ Leonardo sincerely hates seeing his brother like this, sincerely upset and blaming himself for what happened, that if he hadn’t argued with him then…Leo wouldn’t be hurt and they might be safe. The tears on Donnie’s face make him want to swipe them away, but Don had beat him to it. Cerulean gaze doesn’t falter, even though there is a brief wave of sadness at the fact he couldn’t speak to comfort Donnie. He couldn’t verbally assure his brother that it’s possible that, either way, they would have infiltrated the lair regardless.
Leo’s eyes shift away from Donnie, eyes darting back and forth as if looking for something. Then, there’s a soft huff before grabbing the stick again and brushing away the previous words. Making more room for him to write something down for him, it’s not as good as just telling him, but as long as Donnie sees then, he’ll know what he’s thinking.
Writing in the dirt that April brought down Irma, who were being chased by the foot. They had to know that April would have brought her to the lair, which ended up being Kraang subprime in disguise. The initial attack on the lair was plotted out, and seemingly executed the same day they had the argument.
Taking a deeper breath, Leo looks up at Donnie, sincerely hoping he would read the words and understand that it’s nothing for him to beat himself up over. Trying to get across that the attack on the lair to lure them out was planned in detail. Blue met brown for a brief moment before he shifts to write just a bit more.
‘They knew what they were doing, Shredder and the Kraang were working in tandem with each other in order to flush us out. The Kraang portal separated us. I chose to lead them away from you guys. Just like I chose to try and make sure no one could reach you guys. You are not at fault Donnie.’
With those final words, Leo looks back at Donnie, hoping that he understands their disagreement has nothing to do with this happening to him. It was something that happened because he let himself be lured into a trap, wanting to buy his family time ti get out. He doesn’t regret it, his family was alive…well…most of them.
Taking another deep breath, Leonardo looks at Donnie to place a hand on his shoulder once more. Though he takes one of Donnie’s hands in his own and places it on his chest so Donnie could feel his heart beat, mouthing;
‘I am alive thanks to you. Remember that.’ ℒ~}
DONNIE READS THE WORDS AND THEN RE-READS THEM. Slowly processing Leo’s scribbled writing in the dirt.
The first thing he feels is a brief moment of anger towards April that surprises him. Somehow in all the confusion of that day, and the proceeding months after as he busied himself with taking care of Leo, he had forgotten her her mistake of bringing Irma to the lair, which had been the first domino in all of this. But the anger doesn’t last, because as long as he’s held onto the inwardly directed anger, he has never been able to blame someone as well as he can blame himself.
And through all of this, a part of him knows that Leo is correct [ wasn’t he always? ] but there is a horribly stubborn streak in Donnie that refused to let up, to let Donnie have any reprieve from his horrible guilty conscious. He stares harshly at the words in front of him as Leo continues to write.
When Leo finishes his writing Donnie stares at the last words for longer than is necessary for someone with his reading speed.
He feels Leo’s hand back on his shoulder and lets out a long sigh before looking back up to meet eyes with his eldest brother. He lets his fingers spread out over Leo’s chest and he can feel the gentle rhythmic beating under the hard cartilage of his plastron.
His eyes begin watering at Leo’s mouthed words, and for the first time, standing there with his brother, who may not in the same shape he was before all of this, but he’s alive. And for the first time in three months, it feels like a weight is slowly being lifted from his shoulders.
He may not be able to hear his brother’s voice, but he’s still there.
“ You’re right¬ You’re still here and- And that’s what’s important. ” The word felt a bit forced, but they weren’t untrue, and Donnie would cling to that.
Hjonk hjonk, daily goose coming in for a stroll

“ We are most definitely not keeping the goose. ”

mysteriouskunoichi:
🐍 she looked at him with stars in her eyes, or perhaps that was the breathtaking night sky that encompassed them bouncing off her chocolate covered orbs. getting a glimpse of what made him who he was only ignited that warmth that was growing in her heart. suddenly feeling his fingers grazing over her sensitive scalp, began to set it ablaze. she couldn’t help but close her eyes as soon as he made contact, a very soft curve of her lips quickly followed. a pleased huff of air left her nose.
“ why does none of that even surprise me. as much as you can be predictable those boys are on a whole other level. ”
the words spoken playfully, she let herself lean into his touch. suddenly struck with courage she hadn’t had before, her palm was slowly placed against the side of his cheek. she stroked her thumb softly against his smooth skin.
“ what about you ? your brothers ran away, but did you ever give it a thought ? even now ? ”
HE LETS OUT ANOTHER LAUGH AT HER JAB AT HIS BROTHERS. She wasn’t incorrect, they did have their chosen personas down to a T when it came down to it. Then again, so did he. Juvenile taunts of ‘ suck up ’ and ‘ Splinter Jr. ’ had followed him most of his life, and not just from Raph, and now he had quite literally taken his father’s mantle. He lead his brother’s, hopefully, well enough for his father to be proud of who they were. Who he was. Wherever his father was now.
His stomach turns over. Had he ever thought of running away? He rubs his cheek against her hand, in search of some form of comfort before he admits the t r a i t o r o u s thoughts that had ran through his mind only¬
“ Once. ” The word sits in the air for a few moments as he considers his words before deciding to through out all formality.
“ At Splinter’s funeral. ”
“ I haven’t been causing enough chaos lately. ”
