I really wish people would understand the difference between being nice because it is my job and being nice because it is my choice. I’m at work. I am being paid to engage people and take false interest in their lives to sell merchandise. I don’t want a business card, I don’t want someone’s number, I don’t want to give my number, I don’t want to go out on a date, I don’t want to have to worry about people finding me in the store by name they only know because of name tags just to further delude them into some fantasy where my friendliness means I’m interested in them. If it were my choice I would walk away to simply stop this annoying and repetitive process but I am not allowed.

So you’re telling me, that because of issues with people changing posts, which don’t get me wrong is a very wrong thing to do under certain circumstances. Roleplayers won’t be allowed to go about doing what they typically do, unless we install extensions, or otherwise do a lot of work, just to try and keep the integrity of our posts while reblogging from a partner?

I thank you for a reply, and the fact that you said you will be speaking to your team. Maybe you should consider the ability to lock a post, so that if someone doesn’t want it edited they have that option? This would allow us roleplayers can keep doing things the way we always have been. Some kind of option needs to be thought up, because this is really going to put a damper on a lot of people’s activity.

Dear tumblr staff,

With all due respect, y’gotta put in updates that aren’t gonna get rid of/repel a good chunk of your users. In the case of this latest update, it’s made it so that you can’t cut posts, a feature which is needed not only by regular bloggers (since I cut posts/replies on my personal frequently), but more importantly for the large role-playing community that writes here on your website.

We, the roleplayers, cut posts so as to not clog our dashes or other’s dashes with posts that would otherwise have anywhere from twenty-up reblogs in replies, and without the old post editor that allows you to cut posts, that’s impossible. It disregards a large community on Tumblr who uses the post-cutting feature, and it’s not just a certain group of roleplayers, either —– it’s all of us, everyone from Doctor Who to Vampire Diaries to Parks and Rec to Supernatural. It’s all of us that use this feature for our own comfort, for clean posts and clean dashboards. It’s not fun to try and get around this, and if there isn’t some solution to it (such as, perhaps, getting rid of the feature that doesn’t allow for post-cutting), then you’re likely pushing away a HUGE part of your users on this website, and forcing them to go to other platforms.

Not only is this likely something you can fix, and an annoyance to us, but pushing away your users is also an extremely bad business strategy that could lose you a faithful community that’s stuck with you all this time (despite some pretty bad updates earlier).

PLEASE NOTE:

As someone with the update, anything on Stylish has not worked on the reblog update. Going into the html does not work. I have also tried the same thing for under a picture. Once an icon or gif is in the script, it blocks it off from editing. 

I REPEAT: HTML EDITING AND STYLISH ARE NOT WORKING ON THIS UPDATE. I see a multitude of posts going around as a solution to this and I try each one. They do NOT work on this update.

The only solution I’ve seen so far is doing the extra work, copying the response and the image from the reply above and working from there, as seen in this post. Please feel free to add any other solutions found or other creative ways you thought would work.
