Huge win for the unemployed I have another thought. I guess I gotta share this one since I found out the other one was already a theory 💔 I am also not sure if this is a well known part of the "The R of Miss Goldberg" theory (since I cant find this anywhere), but I thought it would be fun to comment on nonetheless. Most of the fandom/community believes that the aforementioned song is entirely metaphorical, and no actual r-wording took place. While I am not sure of others reasoning for this theory, mine lies within the lyrics and visuals. Throughout the show Miss Goldberg has sunglasses. I don't know if she's just chill like that or if it is metaphorical. But it would be pretty tuff if it was metaphorical. In the song, Marvin states he likes her eyes. She says this is ridiculous since he can't see her face or eyes and he agrees. This seems like a moment of desperation for Marvin, he has this fake fantasy of a woman in his mind, and he is grasping at anything to prove he likes her. He tries to specify her eyes, a safe bet. But unfortunately for Marvin, he doesn't quite remember her face at all. Since "In trousers" is sort of a look at various Marvin memories, it would make sense for her to wear sunglasses as to obstruct the view of her face, making our view of her Marvin's, since he can't remember her.

I might just be spit balling here but I haven't seen anyone talk about this. Throughout in trousers, most of the songs are at least a little metaphorical and can be interpreted in many ways. In the song, "Love me for what I am" there is a lyric that is repeated. The lyric being, "Could you like a girl like that?" And while in the context of the song she's asking him to love her for her flaws, it could also be interpreted as a question of his love for women in general. Could you like a girl like THAT (meaning romantically). Maybe she's even saying it in a way of self-consciousness (could you love me for my flaws) and he hears it as could you even like a woman romantically? Since in trousers is a reflection on Marvin's past, and his previous avoidance of accepting his queer identity.
