During the photoshoot I'll also take a video to make a series of 3 10 second clips. I'll use motion graphics to make it seem as though we are seeing an interface that is choosing out which parts of the body will be changed. The first will be the face, second is the torso, and lastly the legs.

For the website, I'm thinking of having two tabs; one leads to the Pretty Committee's page and the other for the rebel Smokies'.

Photoshoot inspiration:

This is the kind of lighting I would like to have.

The Fibonacci sequence, otherwise known as the Golden Ratio, is found throughout art and nature. It is proportionally harmonious. Thus, I find that it's the perfect grid to use throughout this campaign. I've used it in the logo and plan to use it for the poster, website, and other collaterals.

Up next: The photoshoot is scheduled for tomorrow at 4:30pm at a makeshift studio at my place. I've asked photographer Chelsea Tanksley to lend her time and talent, along with 3 models who will personify characters Tally, Shay, and Peris.

Logo process I'm using the white tiger orchid as a metaphor that symbolizes the whole concept of beautifying people through surgery. In the story, the orchid is a flower that was very beautiful but rare. The Rusties (that's us) then genetically modified it to grow faster and endure more. It ended up growing out of control and killing the environment around it.

OBSERVATIONS FROM RESEARCH

People tend not to research movies as much as they do books. Movies complement the experience of the narrative and is seen as a leisure time spent with friends and family. Contrastingly, reading novels are a personal activity experience alone. It's more intimate. Further, for the most part, the only promotional materials that reach the general public are trailers and posters. Most people don't look at movie websites or dig further into it. Thus, the problem is to find out how to reach the audience with more promotional material. Although older parents go to watch the movie, for this campaign the target market is 14-25 year olds.

AD4016 Applied Design: Uglies #1

The assignment: Rebrand and create collaterals for a medium to big sized company that is well-known enough. I wanted to focus this last project of senior year (before thesis) on my personal interests. I love anything that has to do with makeup, costume, theater and film. These things are a platform that allows you to become whoever you want to be, creating fantastical illusions and alter egos.

Option 1: Make Up For Ever MUFE was founded by Dany Sanz who started out as a fine artist. She found her passion in makeup and created a brand that is by professionals, for professionals. To me, makeup is more than covering imperfections and creating the typical beautiful face – it's using the face and body as a canvas. And I feel like MUFE also reflects that.

Option 2: Uglies Uglies is a dystopian book series written by Scott Westerfeld. In this future world, to avoid the problems that too much individualism creates, everyone undergo a surgery at their 16th birthday to turn them into Pretties. Everyone conforms to the same kind of beauty. I'd brand this book as a movie.

AD4016 Applied Design: Homefull #5

On to those print ads! Got different kinds of tea kettles and stove tops to show give each one personality. We're talking about a lot of different types of homeless people here. And not all these kitchens and kettles look beat up to show that the most unexpected people can become homeless at any point of their lives. It goes back to something Carly Cenedella who works at Homefull said: "you can't tell if a person is or was homeless just by looking at them". Which goes back to the point of not judging someone and not letting your prejudices lead you!

Also got the graphics for the reaction game done. Here are samples of some of them. I experimented with a few ways on how to show the statistics. I tried writing it straight onto the kettle and then putting it into photoshop but I wasn't really feeling it so I went with a digital one. I don't know though, maybe I can be talked out of it?

Although the project is technically done, I still have to make this game into reality so stay tuned for that.

AD4016 Applied Design: Homefull #4

I'm no filmmaker but I work with what I have. I wish I knew a Cinematic Arts major to help out, but unfortunately the one CA friend I have graduated earlier in May ): So here I am as Art Director, Videographer, and Editor. All props were purchased at the thrift store. I was so worried I wouldn't be able to get a tea kettle but I found it at the second store I went to! I also found out that you can create a makeshift stove out of tin cans, candles, and nails which is what I'm referencing in that last frame (http://survivalrecipes.wordpress.com/2007/09/08/cooking/).

Next up is to finish up print and guerilla ads!
