our equation // lisette & amity
She’d given her friend about an hour’s notice before heading over to her place -- a text that announced her arrival and the promise that she would bring food with her. Amity figured that was enough to get her the okay, and she was right; now she was on her way, with a higher end pizza on the seat beside her and plenty of napkins piled on top of that.
Normally she’d give more notice and plan it better, but Amity was in no mood to do so. So much of her life was carefully calculated, weighing every risk possible -- she didn’t mind, most of the time. It was fascinating and helped her feel in control. Now and again, though, she just wanted to complain about her shitty job and coworkers, and this was one of those times.
Especially with the way the bodyguard had treated her recently -- it made her feel dirty, and Amity hated it. A lowlife nobody like him wasn’t supposed to have an effect on her; she was above that.
As she pulled into a parking spot and headed up to Lisette’s residence, she felt calmer already -- she knew she was in the presence of a good friend, and didn’t need to act anymore. Sometimes it was difficult to turn off the perfect illusion, but she found that wasn’t the case with her. Easily, she was one of the closest friends she had.
“Hey,” she greeted with a sigh and a smile, holding the pizza up a bit. “Long day.”
