The bar is set too low for men.

Perhaps that is why most men have been fighting so hard to kill, rape and burn us. They fear what we would do to them if we learned to love ourselves so much as to not accept the mediocrity they serve us. I became a feminist when I found work that i was good at and that i loved but was white male dominated... I had to wake up to the realities of life in the harsh field, jumping rocks and peeing in the bush. No one was going to drive me to a garage so that i didnt have to squat where snakes lay their eggs. No one was going to carry my heavy equipment for me. But all of that was still okay. I can handle the weight. The side comments from field colleagues about, "Is it that special time of the month for you Anelile?" "Argh we still waiting for Anelile to finish her part." Those are the things that would crush my spirit. Studying hard. Being vocal about field chronicles. Refusing help to carry things. Doing my job the absolute best way i know how. The battle of women in the workplace is tragic. Unless "admin" or "nursing" cause those were the careers we were pushed to do. Its more "Feminine"... 1. Prove yourself to your colleagues by workinh twice as hard as they have to do. 2. Earn their respect by doing the work, earning the skills and experience and still get paid less than them. Feminism is not about who is supposed to cook, if only it was. Its about access to rights.
