They sure do fly by.
These days, where do they go? January is almost over and I thought it just began. I write this in procrastination mode which seems to be the story of the beginning of my second semester of grad school. I can't seem to focus at all. I stare at my computer from the point I walk into my apartment to around 9 o'clock and accomplish nothing productive. Not a thing. So here I am finally in work mode and I decide to write a blog post finally...because I blog so regularly.
Since I've started back at school, nothing too interesting has been happening. There is a new bus that runs right by my apartment that I've been taking to school and it is unbelievably convenient. I love not only not having to drive on campus, but the walk from the bus stop to my building is refreshing. I have been so zoned in on just getting from the parking lot to my building lately that I miss the campus atmosphere of walking around and taking in the sights and the sounds of this place. Especially when I walk by the stadium and get to hear the lovely sound of construction crews, cranes, jackhammers, all just music to my ears. I also decided to start swimming for cardio. I think that I will like it. The first swim was great but Matt was there too so I wasn't alone. Days when I go by myself might be more difficult to do.
Last but not least, I got to visit Erek! E and I had a wonderful MLK weekend in Huntsville. Erek took me flying! Erek's friend is a pilot and offered to take us out for a bit. He let me fly the plane all by myself. It was terrifying and I don't know if I will ever do it again. It wasn't difficult, I just don't like being in control of a vehicle in the air. Air doesn't seem as reliable as the ground and water so I will stick to driving boats and cars and hopefully one day, however very unlikely, a train (weird desire, I know). While we were in the plane, our pilot did some zero-g drops with us and it was so fun. I know I've experienced it in roller coasters but this was way more realistic and close to spaceflight. I did get a little bit sick from the plane ride since it was so windy that day but Erek took good care of me. There is another part to that story that I'd rather not share but I am sure by typing this it is implied of what might have happened. Picture from the adventure below! Excuse E's crooked glasses :)
Thanks for the memories, #NYC @eerock20 @hifihorizon (at New York City)
Couldn't have asked for a better week to start to 2014. #washington #dc @hifihorizon @eerock20 #thetripod
Santa came early this year!
lately. (more like the entire semester)
E. & I at the Egg Bowl! #hailstate
Mia is engaged! And Ashleigh and I are bridesmaids! I am so excited and happy for Mia. I can't wait until June for this beautiful New Orleans wedding.
And in October, I went to the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Conference in San Diego! It was my first time on the west coast and it was beautiful. I would love to go back and explore more of San Diego.
Growing up.
I am slowing but surely learning how I am going to have to become an adult. When I say this, I don't mean supporting myself or anything like that; I have that under control. I need to be an adult in my interactions with other people. I am so worried about what other people say to me and let it creep into my thoughts instead of just understanding that only what I think matters. It is my life after all. I feel like I have exceeded every expectation that could have ever been dreamed of for me and yet I am still criticized for the littlest things. This shield I am going to have to put up to keep these things out is going to have to be thick. Very thick.
Like many people, I was first introduced to Colonel Chris Hadfield when I saw a photo of NYC come into my newsfeed, taken from the International Space Station. I’ve been following him ever since, as he inspired millions with the wonders of space by combining social media and, well, OUTER SPACE. “Watching a shuttle launch is great,” explains Hadfield, “But it’s more entertainment than inspiration. For the first time, social media allowed people to come along with us, and experience space like an astronaut.” I had the honor of meeting Mr. Hadfield while he was in New York, doing interviews surrounding his new book, available here:http://amzn.to/1ahDcNE ———————— (Internal dialogue: “Do I call him Chris? Colonel? Mr. Hadfield? I’m gonna blow it! I’m blowing it!”) "What’s the most frightened you ever felt in space?" "Honestly, very little happened that I wasn’t prepared for. Astronauts prepare for everything. You’d be amazed at all the things we train for. Specialization is for insects. Humans have to be generalists— and astronauts especially. Before the mission, I actually studied with a dentist in case I needed to surgically extract a tooth. So I never felt very afraid because I’d prepared for everything. But if I was to give an answer— one time we were coming across the Indian Ocean, and I was looking down at Australia. And a shooting star passed below us. A big one. A shooting star came between us and the world. And I thought: ‘Oh man, we really are floating around in an aluminum bubble up here.’" "What did you miss the most while you were in space?" "If you don’t mind me using a euphemism… physical contact. Have you met my wife?"
Visited the "Sweet Potato Capital of the World", Vardaman, MS! This farm grows, harvests, cleans, and packages sweet potatoes. It was an Industrial Engineering wonderland.
Grad School.
I have officially been a graduate student for almost 4 weeks now. It has been absolute chaos, but in the best possible way. This weekend will be my first weekend to stay in Starkville for the entire weekend. I've been a busy lady and I have put up a few pics from instagram since I am such a slacker when it comes to blogging. Hopefully I will be buying a iPhone 5S in the coming weeks and I will feel more compelled to take pictures and hopefully blog. Erek knows my goal when it comes to my blog and I will never get there if I don't start posting!
Speaking of Erek, two weeks ago I traveled to Huntsville to see him! It was a fantastic weekend, better than I ever could have imagined. We had margaritas the first night (I'm obsessed and he knows it), visited the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, and even went hiking! It was hot but the views were beautiful! Huntsville is a pretty neat place. It is definitely different than the rest of Alabama. Erek also made us reservations at The Melting Pot! We both had never been and we had so much fun. To begin, they put us in a "Lovers Lane" booth... Erek and I both had the same reaction to that. We just aren't "Lovers Lane" kind of people; however, the booth ended up being the greatest part! Erek embarrassed me in front of our waiter and we ate way too much cheese and chocolate fondue but it was just so tasty. We spent Sunday laying around the house just watching The Office (Erek just finished watching all 9 seasons). Overall, I loved every minute of it. OH! I forgot! Erek FINALLY took me to Papa Murphy's! He has been telling me about this pizza place since last summer and how I just had to try it. Papa Murphy's makes the pizza for you in a Subway type fashion and you take it home and bake it yourself, 425 degrees ;) It was more delicious than Erek described it. I wish there was a Papa Murphy's in Starkville. I'd be eating all the time.
Last weekend on Sunday, Lauren and I drove to Jackson to visit our grandparents for Grandparent's Day. Our parents drove up from the coast and met us in Jackson and GranC and Pa loved every minute of it. It was another fantastic weekend.
If you can't tell, everything about the past 4 weeks have been great. School is good, I've made new friends, my apartment is finally all put together (pictures soon!), and I've gotten to visit with some very special people. I couldn't be happier than I am right now. I wish I knew why I was blessed with such a wonderful life when I look at the sadness of the world we live in. All I can do is be thankful for what the Lord has given me because he sure has given be an abundance of beautiful things to be grateful for.
Hiking in Huntsville!
U.S. Space and Rocket Center with @eerock20! Saturn V!
Downtown Jackson for lunch!
So it seems.
I can't keep up with blogging. I am not quitting but it has been almost a month which is absolutely ridiculous. I have been sharing my instagram posts on here which makes me feel like I am doing a little bit better.
Well today is E's birthday! Happy 23 to my handsome fella. I really wish I could have spent today with him but the means were just unfeasible. I did send him a birthday package full of goodies though!
In other news, I only have 2 weeks left of my internship! This is so sad and insane. I can't believe it has already flown by so quickly. I am going to miss my new friends from this summer. I always miss my summer friends. Other than that, life is good! :)
Happy birthday to this handsome fella, @eerock20! I wish I could be with you to celebrate your 23 years of life on this pale blue dot!
Told you so.
I knew I would be bad at this blogging thing. I just never take the time to sit down and write! I spend my time after work at the gym, eating, and talking with E. on the phone everyday! But I will get back into the hang of this. Just not tonight. Mom is in Houston visiting :)
I got my second chance to meet Mike Massimino and NOT embarrass myself this summer. I even got Don in the pic. How much cooler can my day get?
