Report
In this project I have been required to help Maddy with the creation of backgrounds for her final year film. The way in which she wanted me to work required an eye for colour and composition that followed the same rules throughout the film. What she did first was to hand me over the sketchbook that had a rough sketch of what the backgrounds would look like. Following her lines and asking her what colours she preferred she told me that she would trust my decisions entirely thus giving me more control over the final product. At first this scared me a little because eve though I'm familiar with the traditional medium that she was asking me to use (gouache) I feared that without the directors guidance in the colour palette I would end up ruining the backgrounds that were essential to the film. This however, ended up not being the case and as I sent her the drawings she would give me feedback on the decisions I made and I would ask her any doubts I had. Overall, I would say that our communication was effective with the exclusion of one incident in which at first she told me to use a particular colour and then changed her mind afterwards. Working with Maddy has been really enjoyable and I hope that her final film comes out as planned.

Last background. A small mistake I made was to forget about painting the clouds in the sky. Otherwise, I am quite happy with how the painting turned up.
Green room in which the princess is held captive.
Painted using gouache.
This window might look different from the other ones I painted because it was the one that I did first. At this stage, Maddy told me that the interior of the castle would look like something like this but later on she told me to change the colour to the green that is seen in the other windows.

Catapult.

In this background of one the towers is supposed to be animated to I didn’t have to draw it out.
