FRIDAY’S CLUE
November 2nd 2012
Opera History:
Opera emerged in the late Renaissance era when musicians, composers, poets, artists, academics and arts aficionados congregated in Italian city centers, like Florence, to discuss trends in music and drama. After the Renaissance era, opera went through Baroque, Classical and bel canto periods. In France the tradition of Impressionism began widely popular, which heavily focused on the opera narrative. Combining the French lineage of composer Georges Bizet with the conversational atmosphere typical of European bakeries, Alon’s is an idyllic café for Atlantans looking to spend an afternoon relaxing and savoring a decadent treat.
Clue:
Photograph this savory French cake, made of thin layers of almond sponge cake soaked in espresso-kahlua syrup, topped with coffee ganache and coffee buttercream, before heading to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre to claim your grand prize! This delicate treat can be found amid the shelves of savory pastries in Alon’s European bakery in the Highlands and the Perimeter.

THURSDAY’S CLUE
November 1st 2012
Opera History:
As times change, so do the venues of opera companies. Audiences have been enjoying the art of opera for hundreds of years in a variety of settings, both private and public. Designed by P. Thornton Marye and Barret Alger as an addition to The Wimbish House, or the historical Atlanta Women’s Club, in 1920, this building’s auditorium originally hosted meetings, dinners and musical entertainment, like opera and live theatre. Today, the extravagantly decorated banquet hall caters to Atlanta’s vibrant nightclub and hip-hop scene.
Clue:
Often mistaken as “The Atlanta Opera,” this venue is home to Atlanta’s wild nightlife and “Hip-Hop Thursdays.” Capture a photo of the exterior of this nightclub before lines start to form and chaos erupts.

WEDNESDAY’S CLUE
October 31st 2012
Opera History:
For the melodic opera music, intricately designed set and elaborately sewn costumes to combine on the mainstage, an auditorium must first be selected. As the Atlanta Opera’s first official venue, this clue location proudly hosted productions of The Seagull, La traviata, a Sherrill Milnes Recital, Il trovatore and Madama Butterfly, to name a few. The 4,512 seat hall has catered to almost every form of performing arts in Atlanta, and is listed on the National Historic Register. Its large auditorium and lavish décor were once perfect complements to the harmonic tones and intricate scenery of the Atlanta Opera’s seasonal productions.
Clue:
Formerly an Atlanta Opera venue, this historic building is both an Atlanta landmark and artistic masterpiece. Having featured ballets, operas, Broadway and comedic acts to name a few, the monument’s intricately decorated interior and façade create a “Fabulous” experience. Capture some of the elaborate décor featured in the sweeping columns and exotic ornamentation displayed on the building’s exterior.
