For a podcast that’s dedicated mostly to discussing bad movies, occasionally there can be an abundance of films to choose from. Sometimes an exorbitant amount of these bad films happen to be released at the same time – an industry wide perfect storm of lazy, uninspired, mechanical horror filmmaking. And when that happens, we have no choice but take that entire calendar year under the knife…..and that’s what we have done.

Episode 10 marks a milestone for us. Yes, we’ve hit double digits. That’s about double the episodes we originally thought we’d even get to. For this special number, we went back to a time period that’s been quite familiar to us over the past 9 shows: the 80′s.

Specifically, the end of an era of big hair, Republican presidents and slasher films – the Waterloo of horror movies so to speak: 1989.

This episode was mostly free flowing as we bounced back and forth on some notable bad releases from that year. We dedicated some extra time to discuss the direct-to-video camp du jour Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland, which pretty much epitomizes the year in horror movies.

Our middle segment focused entirely on the big three franchises bad movies of that year: Halloween 5, A Nightmare On Elm Street 5, and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes a Boat – not only because they’re the big three but also because they all suffered from pretty much the same mistakes (but mostly because they sucked).

And then our last segment rounded out our free flowing discussion with a couple of movies we actually enjoyed watching and a few thoughts on the purgatory of horror that would follow 1989 (the early 90′s).
