Toyota Yaris GRMN
Originally planned to be sold for only 200 units only in Europe. But then they changed plan and decided to sell 400 in Europe and 200 in Japan. This Yaris is something you need to be scared of. Before i start the article, you need to realize that this is based on the NCP131 Yaris not the NCP150. The NCP131 Yaris is the one which is sold in Japan, US, Europe and it has smaller dimensions than the NCP150 which sold in other than Japan, US and Europe. The NCP150 is bigger and its also called as the catfish Yaris (Yaris lele). The Yaris is a commuter car which has weirdo sibilings. The first gen NCP10 Yaris has that TRD Turbo version and the TRD-MSB which has fully stripped interior and it's race ready. The second gen NCP91 Yaris has the TRD Turbo again and the Vitz RS which has a CVT Paddle shifters 7 speed semi automatic gearbox and the NCP131 has the G's version which includes a rad bodykit, and sport suspension and there's the Vitz GRMN Turbo which is like the previous turbocharged TRD Yaris / Vitz es and here's the ultra hardcore Yaris GRMN. This thing to me is like the M3 CSL back then. It blows mind.
Gazoo took in the Toyota Yaris to their office. Aaaand they tuned it up. They gave the Yaris intensive tests in Nurburgring also, looking for the perfect settings. After they already accomplished it, they retested the car. Then, three of them shown in Monza. THEY WERE TAILGATING EVERY SUPERCAR AND ANY CARS IN FRONT OF THEM. EVEN THEY PASS THEM. Oh dude, your Porsche just got smoked by a Yaris. Oh dude, there's a Yaris clinging in your rear bumper of your Ferrari. You just met the Yaris on your nightmares. This Toyota Yaris is also commented by some reviews, feels analog and it also feels like hot hatches back in the days. Fast, analog, and freaking fun.
GRMN thought because of Toyota been delivering 2ZR engines for Lotus, then it's a good idea to put it in the Yaris too. They called out Lotus to help them to develop the Yaris too. They're happy to do it. They gave infos how to make a first complete tuned car, quality control, and supply engineering services. The tuned Dual VVT-i 2ZR-FE with the Magnusson-Eaton Supercharger produces 210hp and peak torque of 250Nm at 4800rpm. The Supercharger, cooling unit and air intake are cleverly combined as one. The engine has oil cooler and intercooler mounted in front. The fuel system of the car is using the fuel system from a V6 engine that i assume, the 2GR. The exhaust was fully reworked. It has the Yaris WRC spec exhaust, with goal of reducing back pressure.
The chassis of the Yaris GRMN is reinforced. They gave strut braces on the front suspension towers. There's also underbody braces in the front, center, rear side of the chassis. The rear underbody braces are connected to the rear axle to give more rigidity and handling balance. They also gave the Torsion limited slip differential which lets the power to be smoothly transfered to the road and gives better front / rear balance when cornering. It also eliminates understeer so you can drive it precisely. They also gave the Yaris GRMN 17 inch BBS forged alloy wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE005 205/45 R17 wheels. The Toyota Yaris GRMN also has Sachs Performance Shock Absorbers with shorter springs so the car can hug the road closer. The VSC is also retuned so its more performance oriented. They also changed the brakes. The front area has four pistons 275mm slotted rotors brakes and the rear has 278mm slotted rotors.
The Toyota Yaris steering is also tuned. They changed the electrical rack and pinion steering to the faster ones. They also changed the steering wheel which is derived from the Toyota GT86. They also changed the seats into semi bucket suede seats which suits for racing.
To me as a Toyota Yaris fan and owner, i would like to own one. Other reasons are because it's limited edition and i think this thing is the holy grail of all Yarises. It has the price tag of 35k USD meanwhile the top trim of the Yaris is 16k USD. Hmm quite hard choice for me. To build or not to build? Maybe do both. But since i'm in Indonesia, it's not that possible to have a non special edition NCP131. The Yaris GRMN also can go from 0-100km/h in just 6.3 seconds
