Don't forget Feminist First Friday tomorrow!
obama is fucking done with all this bullshit in that last gif
Obama bout to do some mic drops these last years in term. Ain’t got shit to lose.
The women of this house know that a woman cannot call herself free who does not own or control her own body.
Rep. Alma Adams (NC-12)
What’s the real story of abortion? 42 years legal, and incredibly safe — and we’re going to fight to keep it that way.
The first bills that the Republican majority puts on the floor does not create one single job but discriminates, hurts, and insults women.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-12)
Today in history! The supreme court legalized abortion. | Follow ThinkProgress
Nineteen white men are featured in an image tweeted by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi about H.R. 7, the so-called “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.”
Yesterday, the House passed H.R.7 - a bill that would deny abortion coverage to millions of women. Don’t let anti-choice politicians trick you into thinking that this bill is “harmless.” It’s anything but.
Welcome to 2015.
(Kaitlian Brunner, Senior Bishop Ryan) "Could have been us. I mean, I couldn't be here right now, ya know. I think that's why all of us are so strong is because we are lucky to be here."
Meanwhile, Max Public Schools currently has 200 students enrolled and are hoping for their second bond issue to be approved by voters as the first one failed. Neither their heating or electrical systems are up to code.
So those going on this march are "lucky to be here" while students in nearby schools wait for the public to acknowledge their need for better schools. An approval of the bond issue would also allow the school to build the Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms they desperately need.
Apparently, the luck it takes to be born runs out once you hit five years old.
A female lawmaker stood before an all-male committee Wednesday and pushed for a bill aimed at closing the reported wage gap between genders, but Republican legislators said they want more proof that a problem exists before taking action.
Shoutout to Rep. Kylie Michelle Oversen and the Democratic Women's Caucus!
The 20-week abortion ban has been stopped. Now, House leaders are forcing a vote on yet another bill attacking abortion. Your representative needs to hear from you — right now.
"You helped stop the 20-week abortion ban — your representative needs to hear from you again right now. Click here to tell your representative to vote NO on this outrageous abortion bill. We've been here before. Last year, these same out-of-touch politicians pushed the so-called "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act," which has almost nothing to do with taxpayer dollars but would effectively eliminate abortion coverage for millions of women. This law would make it illegal to use tax credits and other subsidies to purchase private insurance for abortion — raising taxes for families and small business, and taking coverage away from countless women. That would be bad enough, but this bill goes even further. The law has virtually no exceptions for women whose health is at risk, forcing women to pay out of pocket for a critical medical procedure that can cost thousands of dollars. The bill does not allow any exception for abortions necessary to protect a woman's health, even to protect against serious medical conditions. The anti-women's health politicians running the House are forcing a vote on the bill today, on the 42nd anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade decision. It's a deliberate insult to everyone who fought for the right to safe abortion — and an outrageous attack on women's health and rights nationwide. Let's make sure they regret it."
A message from Cecile Richards, President Planned Parenthood Action Fund
So the GOP have decided the 20 week abortion ban bill may have gone a bit too far when members of their own party refused to back it, thus they're cancelling the vote.
Instead they've come up with a new piece of legislation which "prohibits federal funds for abortions, including in health benefits coverage".
Apparently the Hyde Amendment hasn't covered all those pesky abortion loopholes.
This week is the 42nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, but more than anytime since, abortion is unattainable for so many. Each of us can help make the promise of Roe a reality in our communities. Supporting others who have had an abortion helps to remove the stigma that makes accessing abortion even harder.
