Valentina didn’t know how to do this—how to act like she didn’t want to desperately spill her deepest secret to Yelena. How to act like just the thought alone didn’t scared her enough to keep her in place, keep her silent. She knew she wanted to tell Yelena, that wasn’t in question. What was in question was if they’d still be friends after this… if Yelena would be able to look past what she was about to say.
The seconds were long and quiet, there was too much to loss in the uncertainty of it all. Yelena was far too important for this to come between them. For Valentina to ruin it all by telling her too soon. She could wait, right? She had to. – At least that was what she’d thought until Yelena’s hands were on her, until Valentina could feel her whole world stopping.
Yelena was here, she was still here… that was more she could say than any about those she’d called friends before. It wasn’t that Yelena was too important to loss over this, Valentina had it all wrong, Yel was so important Val wouldn’t loss her because of this.
From her seat Valenitna straightend up and prepared herself to say the words she never had before. “I saw her at Christmas, with her grandmother, I just—I was there. Gwen, the girl, she came in for a reading with a few of her friends.” Val let out a sigh. “I didn’t just give her a reading, I had a vision. I saw exactly what was going to happen because I can see what is going to happen.” Her words were rushed and unclear but Val didn’t care, she could explain later. The important part was she’d told Yelena, she’d finally told a friend.
The silence is probably the hardest part - Yelena’s not used to this, not with Val. She’s become so used to the ease of the two of them telling each other things at the drop of a hat, and while it had been so strange for her to begin with, she’s grown used to it. But she’s never seen Val like this, either - never seen her so upset, so in pain, so she waits. Yelena knew this wasn’t going to be easy, whatever this is - she’s happy to wait, if that’s what Val needs right now.
When Valentina finally begins to talk, to explain what’s going on in her mind, Yelena can’t help but be confused for a moment, trying to put the pieces together on what her friend is telling her. She knows Val does fortunes, but this... this sounds entirely different. She’s talking about visions, about seeing this happen and Yelena knows it has to be more than that. A secret Val’s clearly so scared to admit to her - though why, Yelena can’t be sure. It’s not harmful to her, it’s not going to be dangerous to Yelena, being around Val now that she knows about this. Val’s still her friend, visions or otherwise... isn’t that how it works? Isn’t that how it worked for Val when Yelena told her the truth?
“Val, look at me.” She gives Val’s hands another squeeze, hoping to get her attention, and waits until Val look sat her before she continues again, offering her friend a small smile. “Thank you, for trusting me with this. For trusting me with you.” There’s a hundred things Yelena could say right now, things that might be better, more to explain, make sure Val knows that this doesn’t change anything, but she hopes for now that this will be enough.
She pushes up carefully, still keeping hold of Val’s hands, and sits on the couch beside her, making sure to stay close. Whatever her powers are, her skills and her abilities that allow her to have these visions - that’s something that can wait for another time, another day, a day when Val feels up to the conversation. “It’s not your fault, Val. What were you going to do, follow the girl around for the rest of her life?” Yelena lets out a small sigh and loops an arm around Val’s shoulders, holding her closer. “You can’t blame yourself for this.”
