Book 52 of 2020 /// A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman is just the right kind of heartbreaking- heartwarming book that I needed to read this festive season! Ove is grumpy and spends his days in a predictable routine. He doesn’t like people or dogs or cats- he merely puts up with them. His well-organised life goes for a toss when a little family of four and a mangy cat move next door (not together)! This is such a great book! It is moving, funny and full of all kinds of interesting characters. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CG2g8hbJgUaGj7J2n1w4nhx8Ayqryk2bkGNhZE0/?igshid=ltdi8f6s51y7
I miss gardens and parks and just being in nature! This year is all about the missing and the longing. Sigh. https://www.instagram.com/p/CGvWP2EJm3I1m6ge2gx-WPJdQDpl76tHN7IwFo0/?igshid=wfovku7m1w87
Shubho Asthami! ✨✨ This year there has been no pandal hopping, no eating out, no massive adda sessions with family and friends... not even being able to visit a pandal! So, this picture from last year will have to go! However, there has been yum homemade food, some good TV shows and just giggling with the parents. All good things I am so grateful for! 🙏🏼✨🌼🌻 Hope you are having a safe yet fun festival! https://www.instagram.com/p/CGuvL7zp8u4i7-Q9UUSC4nLFdgIErXFnaAr81Q0/?igshid=19hiv0r6v8sr9

Book 51 of 2020 /// The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline tells the story of three women from very different worlds set in 1840. Evangeline is an educated young woman, working as a governess in London. Circumstances lead her on a prisoner ship heading to Australia. On the ship is Hazel, a sixteen year old girl, arrested for petty theft and sent to Australia for seven years. And in Australia is Mathinna, an Aboriginal girl of eight, who finds herself living in a rich, influential white person’s home, all vestiges of her cultural identity stripped away from her. How their worlds collide and lives change forms the premise of this book. Very well written, moving and raising all kinds of questions, this book is a must read! A little Shankhpushpi blooming in my Maa’s terrace garden. Little bits of joy in the middle of the stress of our times! https://www.instagram.com/p/CGPXwIXp63F3t8TtSnpT4H-qzZ9lG_j9bQkLUw0/?igshid=3vpa7jlcqqfr
Book 50 of 2020 /// The Silent Dolls by Rita Heron. A little girl goes missing from her family’s camping site very close to the Appalachian Trail. The local Sherif’s office is on the hunt to find her before a fierce snowstorm blows into the area. Leading the investigation is Detective Ellie Reeves, who is traumatised from a childhood incident involving the woods leading into the Appalachian Trail. She is desperate to save the little girl. Also following the news is FBI Agent Derrick Fox, whose sister went missing 25 years ago from the same area and under similar circumstances. Fox is convinced that in the past 25 years almost 20 little girls have disappeared along the Trail. There is a serial killer targeting young girls and Reeves and Fox have to fight against time and extreme weather conditions to save the little girl. Interesting premise and a pretty unpredictable plot twist or two. Would recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CGNbGZ7p67QzQVM9P4lBLutL0fi4s_UVamSAtQ0/?igshid=fbfz7us39jjt
Book 49 of 2020 /// Don’t Look for Me by Wendy Walker. A distraught, unhappy mother goes missing. Her car is abandoned on the side of a highway. There is a note left by her in a hotel room. The note says she left because she was too sad to continue, but did this suburban mom really leave?! Or did something more sinister happen to her?! This book starts off well, but the narrative structure is really dull and takes away most of the suspense! Hate when that happens! ⭐️⭐️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CGNUNN-JDULzUFVvDO0DasjflgN5aubvfPHr-A0/?igshid=v2o67nozr4c7

On the way home. Lush green paddy fields as far as the eye can see! It’s been a quiet couple of days since we’ve been home. Book 48 of 2020 /// Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith. Strike is approached by a woman at a pub with a cold case. Anna’s mother- Margot Bamborough- went missing after leaving her medical practice in 1974. Nothing was found of her and the police investigation stopped a few years later. Strike has never handled a cold case and one that’s more than 40 years old! He is unsure if he’ll be able to find anything new, but is intrigued enough to try. Detailed review just went up on @whimsybookworm’s blog! Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 https://www.instagram.com/p/CFwspXupv0voFQ08s_6Xa4WREpHbhFPnnsI8Jw0/?igshid=dc6nvuzxi1f0
