How To Be Fishers of Men:
Learning from Peter and Andrew's calling-
Scripture: Matthew 4:18–20
"As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew, throwing a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.' Immediately they left their nets and followed him".
Devotional:
When Jesus called Peter and his brother Andrew by the Sea of Galilee, they were ordinary fishermen, just doing their daily work. But when Jesus said,"Follow me," everything changed for them. The scripture says they "Immediately" followed him. They didn't give it a second thought about leaving their families, jobs, and their ordinary lives for some man that was walking on the beach. But, Jesus wasn't just inviting them to a new job, He was inviting them into a new purpose!
Jesus took what they already knew, fishing, and gave it eternal meaning. Instead of catching fish, they would now reach people. They would share the good news of God's salvation through Christ.
Becoming a fisher of men means we use what God has gifted us with, our talents, relationships, and everyday moments that may seem mundane, to point people toward Jesus. It doesn't mean preaching from a stage; sometimes it means showing kindness, listening when someone is hurting, or simply living a way that reflects Jesus' light. I have always liked the saying, "You may be the only Bible some people read."
Just like Peter and Andrew, Jesus calls each of us to follow Him and trust that He will shape us into who we're meant to be. When we say "yes" to that call, we become something far greater than ourselves, the mission of leading others to Him!
