Sir Gaius Artos of Westfall
Commission for @thebulwarkofwestfall
Love et! :D
One step closer to being back! (OOC)
Just bought my new laptop, and it runs great! However I now find myself short of funds for a subscription. So.itll be a biiiig longer till I can get in game. 15 bucks never felt so far away....
The knight grunted as his shield split under the force of the felguards axe. He was then pulled forward a bit as the force of the demon yanking his axe free tugged the shield off his arm, and hyper extended Gaiusâ shoulder. Huffing a bit he then reached a leather gauntlet up to wipe across his eyes. Wiping away a bit of the dirt and sweat combination that marred his once attractive face. Once golden blonde hair was now damp with sweat and covered in dirt. Unable to properly wash in about a week. A stubbly beard was also making itâs way across the Knightâs face. Now left with only his hand and a half sword he held it at a angle up and towards the demon. Hot breath panted from his mouth as he waited for a moment. The demon then moved to swing itâs axe Downward, and Gaius jumped to one side to avoid it before moving to thrust his sword in. The Felguard roared out in pain as Gaiusâ sword struck it in the midsection. Green fel blood squirting from the wound to cover Gaiusâ gauntlet. His world then went sideways as the demon released itâs hold on the massive axe, And used a free hand to slam into Gaiusâ torso. Launching him into the air where he then landed in a clank of plate and dust. White light briefly soared across his eyes as his head struck a rock. But when it cleared the demon was standing over him. The axe held up high. Ready to deliver the finish blow. Gaiusâ sword was still stuck in the demonâs midsection. But it clearly didnât mind.
Releasing a small evil chuckle, the felguard then lifted up his axe, hefting it over his shoulder for a finishing blow. At that moment the knight did something he had never done before. He fought dirty. For a second he saw Beyâs face. Then his foot was shooting upward to smash into the demonâs groin. The mere force alone from his plated boot cause the demon to grunt out in pain and stagger a bit.
Gaius was up in a flash and quickly launched himself at the demon. Growling out a bit as he straddled the demon. He went to try and pull his sword from the Demonâs side. But a headbutt sent him backwards onto the ground once more. Dazed and bleeding from his head now. He blinked when he felt hot breath against his face, and a heavy demon now on his torso. Massive hands reaching down to attempt to snap his neck and snuff the light out of the knight of westfall.
However before he could do so Gaius lunged forward. His teeth finding the demonâs neck and biting down as hard as he possibly could. He could feel the skin separating away as he gnawed into the demonâs windpipe. Felt the hot sickly blood going into his mouth. He then quickly leaned back and spit out the chunk of flesh. Those massive hands reached up quickly to try to stauch the flow of blood from the wound. While gaius used the chance to Rip his sword from the demonâs side. Then plunge it in again, at a angle. Hitting the felguard in the heart. Itâs eyes widdened briefly, then it slumped to the side over Gaius. The knight of westfall then stood up and shivered a bit, staggering a bit before falling to his knees. He was then violently ill. The puke coming up as a nice green color, some from the demon blood, and the rest from the contents of his stomach.
Once he was finished the knight stood up and wiped his mouth, then yanked his sword from the demonâs corpse and walked over to grab a shield from a nearby dead soldier. He then spit on the ground towards the dead felguard, and whistled for Knighthood.
People of Azeroth: Gaius Artos, âThe Light of  Westfallâ
By Risri Elthron
Sir Gaius Artos is a beacon of hope in the desolation of Westfall. His efforts to aid the recovery of the area were bearing fruit before the horrific invasions started. The Royal Courier spoke with Sir Artos a week before the fateful invasions happened.
Born in Westfall, Sir Gaius Artos spent his early life in the fields, the son of peasant farmers. When his parents were killed in an attack by the Defias outlaws, Sir Artos was sent to an orphanage. This is what drives the knight to improve Westfall, âI want to see Westfall restored so that there are no more Orphans missing parents, and no more starving parents worrying about tomorrow.â Now the owner of lands his family once worked on, Sir Artos had spent considerable effort and gold to restore the damaged buildings and restart the orchards where he played as a child.
When he was turned out of the orphanage at the age of sixteen, Sir Artos did the only job his unskilled hands could do, he became a street sweep. âUntil a Paladin found me, and took pity on meâŚSir Arthur WellingtonâŚHe trained me to be a knightâŚAt the beginning he wanted me to be a paladin like himâŚBut by that point in my life, my belief in the light was not exactly strong. I was raised on tales of Gallant knights in shining armor, fighting with valor to protect their homesâŚIâve simply tried to live my life as they would have.â
Forming his own organization to bring relief to his birthplace is something Sir Artos would not admit he is proud of but the eagerness and attention to details he shared during his tour showed that pride in the work his team was doing. He created a standard that hung from many of the building restored by his group, â Itâs a rising sun over a simple white fieldâŚMeaning to symbolize a rising sun over a newly restored westfallâŚItâs meant to represent hope for the future.â  From the buildings to the restored farms to newly opened smithy, the work of Sir Gaius and his people was making a difference in the lives of many Westfall citizens. As a leader, he is unafraid to get his hands dirty, as we walked through his work he stopped to direct as well as pitch in for a few moment as people worked.
Honorable and humble, Sir Artos spoke candidly about his desires should things in Westfall ever be fully restored, âIf westfall were to be restored? Well that would certainly be near the end of my lifeâŚIâd like to sit back, perhaps in a rocking chair overlooking the wheat fieldsâŚAnd admire my work with my significant other.â  He laughingly spoke of a wistful desire to travel the world, âI would like to see the worldâŚItâs something Iâve never done, partially because of how Westfall is, also the relations between Horde and Alliance have prevented that .Iâve always wanted to see Eversong and the Isle of Quel'DanasâŚI hear they are beautiful.â
His answer to the question of whether or not people are inherently good, showed how the life he has lead to his views on the world, âI believe that if we strip away our experiences âŚOur memories, our passionsâŚEverything that makes us what we are. We are neutral. It is our experiences and everything else, that makes us good or evil.â
Sir Gaius Artos is a knight of honor and valor, a light in the darkness that is Westfall. His organization works to gather supplies and distributed them to those in need to build a better future. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those in Westfall. He is truly an inspiration and an interesting individual in Azeroth.

Letter addressed to Gauis- "I hope this letter finds you. I want to believe you made it out of Westfall in time. Gauis, if you receive this, please reach out to Lady Loala Addington. Don't throw your life away in Westfall. Westfallians must stick together, and survive; we owe the dead that much. - Lady Valerie Malos"
(Super late response, but Gaius would have only recently received this message!)
Gaius grunted a bit as he glanced over the letter from Lady Valerie, He had made it out of westfall. But as he looked around the set of rooms that had become all but a prison to him, Gaius wondered at what cost.
Sitting down at his desk he penned a letter in response.
âYour letter has indeed found me Lady Malos, however as I am sure you heard I am in no position to be reaching out to anyone. And if I did, it would likely worsen the situations of both parties involved... I am currently in Stormwind, In the keep. I would even consider it a nice place, if this set of plush rooms wasnât more akin to a jail cell.
I am under investigation by a few nobles who are rather upset with me for retreating from Westfall. Though I am sure you have also heard that. I believe they intend to send me to the Broken Shore...To..Die with honor, to sacrifice my life against a legion that has destroyed my home and life.
The only reason I am able to send this letter, is because the messenger who so kindly delivered it, is waiting behind me, promising that it shall reach you. If the worst does come to pass. I would hope you retain fond memories of me, and that a single act of cowardice does not stain the opinion of those whom I called friend.
Yours Truly
Gaius Artos.â
Gaius then sighed a bit and placed the letter into an envelope before passing it off to the messenger. âThank you for waiting...â He said with a small sigh.
@ladyvaleriemalos
A letter from Stormwind.
Gaius had been staying with his Fiance for the past few days after his retreat from westfall, sending Adrien to speak with the house of nobles as well as inform them of what had happened. However when Gaius recieved two messages from Stormwind, he found it rather strange. One coming from Adrien, and a second from a member of the House.
Figuring the letter from the house was more important he opened it up as he walked over towards the counter in Beyâs kitchen. Freezing in place when he read over the contents of the letter.
Gaius Artos
You have retreated from Westfall, allowing a easier fight for the burning legion in the area. After being proclaimed âBulwark of Westfallâ by the very people you have now abandoned. You made a promise to several members of the house that you would âProtect Westfall, or die trying.â in exchange for our donations to your efforts. If you are recieving this letter, as your consul assures us you shall, then that means you are alive. And have lied to us, as well as forsaking your honor when you retreated.
Consider this letter a summons, as you are to stand trial in Stormwind for cowardice and neglection of duty in regards to Westfall, at the moment you read this letter your status of Knighthood has been officially suspended until the moment the trial is resolved.
Lord Nathaniel Wilmington, House of Nobles.
It took everything Gaius had to not rip up the letter. His arms started to shake as he flexed them and held them in place as he felt both anger, sorrow, and tension all rise forth in his body. What was he at the moment? He then glanced back over a specific line in the letter âas your consul assures us you shallâ.
âThat son of a bitch...â Gaius muttered as he set the from the Nobleman down, and ripped open Adrienâs letter. It was much shorter and to the point, consisting of only a few words.
Dear Gaius
Iâm sorry...I tried...
Gaius growled a little bit then ripped that letter to pieces. He then quickly walked outside, leaving the letter on the counter for Bey to see when she returned. For now Gaius had to get to Stormwind and attempt to salvage some of his life.
Glancing back towards the small cabin that belonged to the woman he loved...Now the only home he actually had, he sighed as he kicked Knighthood into a trot. âStay alive love...Stay alive...â He said with a small sigh.
Where this chain of events would lead him? Even he did not know.

Felfire over Westfall
(Yes, I know this is early. But I will be busy all next week, so I wanted to go ahead and get this out in case I donât have time then.)
(Music to go along with the prompt as you read~)
Westfall had been peaceful for the last couple days. Something which both Gaius, as well as Adrien were suspicious of. The cult had gone to ground at the persistent investigation coming from the WRP, the demon sightings ceased. The burning scarecrows vanished, and it was almost as if they had never been their in the first place.
After a meeting with Consul Adrien ran late, Gaius felt sufficiently tired enough to attempt sleep. Somewhat wishing that his Fiance could be there with him to help sooth the nightmares that were sure to come. Regardless of whom he wished was present. A small feeling of hope had started to kindle itself in Gaiusâ breast. A feeling that perhaps everything would work out. That the dream he had for Westfall could be realized.
As the Bulwark of Westfall slipped into bed that night, pulling the covers up to his chin. A smile was for once on his face, as ironically a nice dream awaited him, until he was violently awoken by a nightmare.
Sitting up suddenly in his bed seemingly just as the Infernal raining down from the sky smashed into his home. Producing green fel fire that sent him hurtling off the bed and onto the floor. The matress flipping and landing ontop of him. The Cult had done their work well. Picking out the spots that would make westfall all the liable for the Legion to take out. Attacking Sentinel hill while simultaneously attempting to take out the hope of the People, by attacking their Bulwark at his own home.
Felfire licked across wooden boards, gradually spreading through what was left of his childhood home. The home that his parents died in. And the home that he was now likely to die in. A small ironic grin crossed his face as he struggled beneath the bed. Everything the knight had worked towards was up in flame. The infernal had landed, turning the center of his house into a crater of felfire and brimstone. Leaving shortly after, content that the occupants in the house were dead.
Fortunately for Gaius, or perhaps unfortunately considering what he was soon to see. Adrien discovered him along with a few WRP soldiers. âGaius! Gaius are you alright!?â
âIâm trapped under a bed with my house burning down around me. What do you think Adrien, Get me out!â He said, struggling again to no avail. Clad only in his small clothes. Blood from wood shards that had pierced his skin staining his bare chest. (For gaius always slept without a shirt.)
As the trio of men worked to move the bed and free their commander. Another explosion sounded nearby. And gaius dared glance towards the sky. Noticing the green hue, as well as the sight of infernals raining down. Fel fire raining from the sky. What hope did westfall stand against a full on burning legion invasion.
As the bed was moved, Turned over onto itâs side. Gaius staggered to his feet, wincing as bare feet tred on broken glass from shattered windows. âWhatâs the situation?â Gaius asked as he pulled some of the lighter wood beams out of the way, moving towards his armor rack. Every step he took caused a wince to cross the knights face. His body was already aching, combined with the occasional stab of pain from one of the hundreds of tiny splinters littering his upper body.
âNot good...Sentinel Hill is holding, but barely...Demons are coming from everywhere at once it seems, Practically pouring out of the deadmines...Moonbrook is all but lost.â He commented as Gaius worked on his armor, Adrien stepping over to help with some of the straps. As gaius paused, thinking to Miriam before pushing her from his head. He had more thoughts on his mind right then. âKnighthood, is he safe?â Gaius asked after a few moments of silence. Well, as silent as the end of the world could be. The sounds of swords and steel clashing in the distance, along with further explosions as infernals rained down hell.
âAye, we pulled him out of the stables...Heâs spooked, but we damn near had to stop him from rushing into here after you.â
âAlright...Letâs go then...â Gaius muttered, pulling on his boots with a groan of pain, the glass embedding itself further in his feet. But he couldnât aford to whine and moan right now. Westfall needed him. Now more than ever.
Hefting up his hammer and shield Gaius stalked forward with a purpose. Brushing past Adrien and the soldiers to head outside. Immediatly taking Knighthoodâs reigns from another soldier and peering around. Now that he was free of the ruins of his home, he could see much more clearly. And it wasnât good.
Fel Fire was burning away at crop fields, while civilians ran around. Many attempting to flee to Elwynn, and getting cut down by various demons. âWe need to protect the civilians!â
âWith what?â Adrien asked from below him, causing Gaius to blink. âWith the WRP Guardsmen...If we can fight our way to Sentinel Hill, we can link up with the Alliance soldiers and form a effective resistance.â
âGaius...This is whatâs left of the WRP...â Gesturing around to the group of 9 soldiers he had with him. Causing Gaiusâ jaw to drop. While the Guardian branch of the Westfall Revival Project had never been fully staffed. There had still been over a hundred guardsman.
âWhat the hell happened!?â
âInfernals hit the Barack's...The demons knew just where to attack to get us at our weakest...There may be more, Patrols were still out and about...But we have no way of knowing if they survived.â
âFuck!â Gaius cursed from his place on Knighthood, causing his horse to shift nervously, letting out a small whiny. âIâm guessing you have a plan then Consul?â he asked, shifting in the saddle to look at Adrien, who was in the process of mounting his own horse.
âYes, I believe we should Withdraw.â
âWithdraw?! Are you fucking daft?!â Gaius all but screamed as another infernal explosion rocked the ground.
âNo. We donât have the forces to do anything but get ourselves killed Gaius! Think of the future! The Legion wonât be here forever. But if we give our lives, how does that help Westfall? Hell, who will even remember that we lost our lives? No one. We need to Retreat. To stormwind. Tell the council of nobles whatâs happening! And return in force!â
âI...I canât!â Gaius said, his resolve faltering somewhat as he glanced around the small pocket of soldiers around them. Every single one of them was scared shitless. Their faces pale and hands shakey. These were not men who could fight.
âThink of the future Gaius...â The consul said as he nudged his horse towards Gaius. âThink of your Fiance...We have to pull back!â
At that, the will that the Bulwark of Westfall was famous for. Broke. Slumping slightly in his saddle. A tear streaked down his ash stained face. âSound the withdraw...â He murmured.
Adrien then called for them to Withdraw. Realizing that Gaius couldnât, and wouldnât nudge Knighthood forward. He swooped down and grasped the horses reigns from Gaiusâ grasp. Leading the silent and broken knight away.
Deep down in side Adrien knew that this was the right move. Even retreating was not a bloodless option, countless demons bared their path to freedom. And it would certainly be a fighting retreat. But as the Consul looked towards his friend, and commander. he felt a small twinge of sympathy. Leaving Westfall was something Gaius swore he would never do.
And now he had done just that.
In previous days and years, Gaius had ridden off into the sunset of Westfall. Ready to fix the land he called home. But now, however unwillingly, Gaius was leaving, shoulders slumped in defeat. As westfall burned.
@miriammaybrooke (mentioned) @beywood (Mentioned)
"Daddy, I want to be like you! I want to be a knight when I grow up!" The young girl tugged insistently at her father's arm.
Gaius glanced down at his daughter and knelt down to give her a small hug. âDaddy isnât much of a Knight anymore sweetheart.â He said, a small sad smile crossing his face.

Hypothetically speaking, what if anything would push Gaius to spurn someone he loved, or to leave behind all associations with someone?
If they hurt westfall.
Westfall, as I am sure most of the people following this blog realizes. Is a -major- part of Gaiusâ story. Almost -everything- he does is for westfall. Like for real. This guy loves Westfall.
You think he loves you? He loves westfall more (Sorry Bey <3) The land will be there longer, and remember what he did for it longer than any partner will.
As such. If a partner or close friend hurt westfall in any way. And Gaius found out about it? Oh you better fear...
What does Gaius daydream about?
Westfall mostly. When Gaius actually daydreams that is.
However that dosenât mean that there isnât a certain other someone in Westfall with him, sitting on a porch looking out over a field over golden wheat as lil kiddoâs run about playing tag.
*mutters quietly*
I wanna be the very best....Like no one ever was...To catch them is my real test...To train them is my cause...
