The Lord is your Cover
In the U.S., we call '911' for emergency help. When we call 911, the dispatcher will send whatever emergency personnel is best for the situation – whether it be ambulance, police, or firefighters. Just as you have confidence that 911 can help you in time of physical need, have that same confidence that Psalm 911 (for Psalm 91) can help you in time of Spiritual need! I felt led to make this today’s focus scripture after reading a question on Facebook. A young woman posted on her profile, “Who wants to be my cover?” Not being familiar with youth slang, I concluded that she was soliciting for a date or boyfriend. When I read it, my first thought was, “Jesus is the cover you need.” A cover is designed to conceal, to protect. In Psalm 91, many synonyms for cover are given. 'Refuge' and 'fortress' are just two of them. However to stay protected, your job is to dwell (live) in the secret place of the most high – that is, at the center of God’s will for your life. You listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and you obey His leading. Under the shadow of the Almighty is the safest place you can be. The Psalmist says that He will trust in God. But, it is hard to trust someone that you don’t know. So take time to get to know God’s character through the person of Jesus Christ. One of the best places to start is the book of John in the bible. You will see Jesus’ loving heart in action and you will see His obedience to the Father modeled for you – even to the cross. You will see that He loved you so much that He gave His life for you. And if He was willing to give His life for you, how much more will He care for you as you deal with the problems of this world? When you recognize that the Lord is your cover, you can face life without worry and anxiety as to what might happen. You may not know the future, but you know the one who does. Past, present, and future – He’s got you covered!
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7
Are you struggling with trying to make a dream come to pass? Are you frustrated in a relationship, trying to make someone else change or live right? You may mean well, you may have good goals, but if you are trying to orchestrate things to happen your way, on your timetable, you are only going to frustrate yourself. At some point, you have to turn those circumstances over to God and trust that He has your best interest at heart.
How do you turn things over to God? Start by making the choice and declaring your resolve. Simply say, “Father, I choose to let You be God of this situation. I take my hands off. I trust You.” Then, choose to worship Him. Worship is one of the best ways to set your heart and mind in the right place. You can’t worry and worship at the same time! Worship is a sign that you are trusting God; worry is a sign that you are trying to control things.
Today, take the pressure off yourself and turn things over to God. Give Him control and let Him take your setbacks and turn them into comebacks. Remember, the God who holds the universe holds you in the palm of His hand. Trust Him and let God be God in every area of your life!
I seriously needed to read that. Wow.
I am so sorry for your loss. We too lost several babies before we adopted our 2 beautiful daughters. It is unnatural for parents to lose a child before their own death and that makes the loss even harder. I will pray that you both find peace and healing, and that whatever God's will is for you in regards to future children, that you will be open to whatever avenue He provides you. Many blessings, Annie
Thank you so much. We know God has a greater plan for us. He has blessed is with 3 wonderful children and we will have more. Children are truly a blessing from The Lord. Thank you for your prayers.
I seen your post about your miscarriage. I'm sorry for your loss. But it'll be okay, I promise. You'll see your children alive and well in Heaven :) also, my mom had 3 miscarriages and almost gave up until God blessed her with twins - my sister and I. Pray to God, He knows what He's doing. I'll be pray for you & for a child too! Joy will come in the morning.
Thank you so much. I truly believe we will see them in Heaven. God has blessed us with three beautiful children and we believe He has more in store for us. Thank you for reaching out to us and praying for us and our family.
I was searching today for something up lifting. My wife and I just experienced our 4th miscarriage and this one was extremely tough because we actually saw the heartbeat this time. We were so excited praying for another baby boy. I just wanted to share this in case other families are going through this. I believe that God’s plan is greater than my own and I fully trust in my God.
