On Monday, The Cinematheque launched one of Canada's first official Kickstarter campaigns. Our goal: crowd-fund $20,000 towards acquiring the new standard in motion picture projection, DCP (Digital Cinema Package).
DCP is an essential addition to The Cinematheque, and will better equip us to provide you with quality programming. We'll continue to screen in 35mm whenever possible, but changes in movie technology means that upgrading is not an option — it's a necessity. Increasingly, films — including restorations of classics and masterworks — are being released exclusively in DCP.
A DCP system — projector, cinema server, zoom lens, RAID data storage, Xenon Lamp — can cost more than $60,000! We have a financial plan, and we've been saving up. But as a not-for-profit arts organization, we just can't do it alone. Your Kickstarter Pledge of $5 or more can make the difference!
If each Cinematheque patron pledges just $5, our goal can be easily reached! You'll get rewards starting at $10 — plus our immense gratitude. This campaign is All-Or-Nothing: we must raise $20,000 (or more) or The Cinematheque won't get any funding.
Click here to pledge! Thank you so much!
