to taste defeat then brush my teeth
The bar, possibly the best place to be in a few ways. His music school was thriving, hell all of Saintes was thriving and it felt odd in a way. Scott still had to get used to being out in the open but maybe he would never fully get used to that.
The bar was busy, more than just busy and it got annoying fast so he leaned over the bar, knowing the bartender was human. "I'll help myself." A little compulsion was harmless in his mind and so he let himself behind the bar, seeing others were waiting too and half hearing a question asked. "Oh, I don't know, just pick your poison?" Scott chuckled and grabbed a glass to fill it up with one of the taps which he knew was from a local brewery. "Try this one." He said as he pushed the glass towards the one at the bar and then filled a glass up for himself.
♙ Dae's own eyes with their green hue caught sight of the man next to him who seemed to confidently assert he was just taking a drink. Perhaps he owned the place, or perhaps people just didn't care. The young incubi was trying to behave though, trying to be a better person so pulled the sleeves of his band tee over his hands, like a reminder not to take what did not belong to him.
♙ It didn't matter if he covered his own hands however, the blue eyed man of unaffected action pushed the drink he had poured towards Dae rather than keeping it for himself. Dae couldn't be rude. It was one thing to take it himself but another to reject someone else's actions, Dae lifting the glass off the bar with his black sharpie covered nails, pink lips pulling into pallid cheeks while near black hair fell around his face.
♙ "Mild flavours of rebellion?" he joked, bringing the drink to his lips and taking a slow sip. It was good, but if Dae was truthful he couldn't tell much difference in the taste of beers beyond the difference between things like an IPA and a stout, more subtle flavour profiles went right over his head. "Definitely tastes like the start to an evening, didn't realize how busy things would be. This how it always is?"
Tinkering came easy to Casper. Perhaps, that was due to him always having to fix things on the ranch. If the truck, tractor, or four wheeler didn't fire up, Casper had to work on it. The family wasn't rich by any means and couldn't afford to replace those. Casper tossed his wrench on top of his tool box as he heard footsteps approach. They were heavy and even if his hearing wasn't heightened, he felt he would have heard whomever was approaching.
Casper looked over the other male as he walked up to his part of the shop, figuring it was just another typical customer. One that hardly knew little about their vehicle, otherwise they'd be trying to fix it themselves.
"Person in charge? Anyone of us." Casper shrugged, knowing that didn't help the other man. "We're just three guys that all chip in with rent, but operate alone." he explained a little further. "Tell me what brings you in and I can point you in the right direction." Casper offered.
♙ 'Anyone of us.' The concept seemed a little daunting to Dae as he watched the opposing man shrug. Where Dae's fingers were soft the other's were oil covered and, he assumed, likely calloused, and that was just the start of the differences. Dae knew it didn't mean that he couldn't do it, or that the other man was going to hold anything against him, but regardless it messed with his nerves as so much did now that he didn't have the guiding hand of his mother.
♙ "I uh - I saw there was an apprenticeship open here and I was wondering if I could like apply or...test for that?" he requested, unsure what the exact situation would be. He'd never got a job before and while most jobs he figured you probably could just get hired into, something more complicated like this seemed like maybe they'd require a sort of testing period, to make sure he wasn't going to just cut people's brakes or something.
♙ While the idea of the place seemed idyllic in concept it was probably out of Dae's reach though. "I didn't realise it was like a chip in type of deal," he admitted because Dae had no money so that was definitely going to be sort of a massive issue.
"Together, together," Mael replied, a tilt to their head as they looked at Dae, tongue now pressed against the edges of their teeth as they inhaled, tasting the air, "Sharing is caring, or so the mortals say." Mael's preference was of course less on whether or not the individual would be spared but they would do what they must for Dae's sake, who was often so soft toward the mortals they fed on. A part of Mael, in the very early stages of their friendship, had wanted to corrupt the young Dae but found they had rather quickly instead found the other endearing and gave up that game.
"You see, they're handsome, we're handsome and we can all be handsome together," the equation adding up simply in their thoughts, "and come morning we'll all say our goodbyes," indirectly assuring the other that they would show restraint and not consume the poor mortal waiter entirely. The waiter would live on to continue doing whatever boring insignificant things they had always done and the two demons would be a little more satisfied.
♙. The tip of Mael's tongue against the edge of their teeth was captivating, Dae wondering momentarily if demonic beings could work their magic on one another of if he was simply weak, pallid gaze lingering around the other's teeth and tongue. The later seemed the most likely, the incubi not having felt strong since his shifting of mortality, at least not in terms of his magical abilities. Perhaps he was strong in conscience but no one was around any longer to appreciate it, at least Mael respected it and perhaps seemed to find some amusement from it.
♙ 'All of us.' Mael was too good a being to Dae. For whatever dark and destructive parts of them existed they seemed to hold some care for Dae. The younger demon leaned over on the lounge, his shoulder against Mael's before shifting up enough that his lips left a kiss against the other's jaw in appreciation for the action, unsure if the action itself would be appreciated in turn. Part of him felt capable of conceding his mortality for his friend, someone so willing to concede his own, but only the night would tell where things lead.
♙. Plush lower lip trailing up his friend's jaw he eventually fell back slightly. "I guess we should order a drink then," he suggested, an easy way to get the waiter over, raising his hand slowly to summon the mortal he assumed was watching the subtle affections between the two demons, the way Dae's icy gaze seemed to shift predatory and thin. Why else did people come to Saintes but to see those beings that they'd never even known existed until now?
♙ With Winter finally starting the nights were getting darker much earlier and by the time Dae approached the garage the sun had already set despite it not actually being that late in the day. He'd intended to come earlier but had been procrastinating. Since he'd seen there was an apprenticeship open at the place he had told himsefl he'd go, he needed to get a real job and stop mooching of Mael and the money he'd taken when he left home. He could be a mechanic...maybe. Dae honestly had no idea, he'd never done anything for long enough to specifically be good at it. He half expected the guy to just tell him to fuck off. Still, he was pushing himself to try.
♙ "Hey, I'm looking for like someone who is in charge?" Dae asked the first person he saw as his heavy combat boots stepped on the oil stained concrete of the establishment, car hanging in the air and various bits and pieces laying on carts and tables. It already seemed daunting, his voice fortunately not indicating it but perhaps his quietness overall did.

♙ Dae's docs partially stuck on the sticky floor of the establishment as he walked past others to get to the bar. His shoulders being knocked as some made their way to the stage, looking to get closer to the local band performing. He was meant to be hunting but without the encouragement of his more self embraced roommate Dae was having trouble convincing himself that he needed to feed. The incubi was always ready to convince himself he could last another night, even as his muscles ached and his stomach churned.
♙ "What do you got on tap, darling?" he asked the bartender, fingers with chipped polish tapping on the edge of worn wood as he eyed the various handles for the beer. Some were basics - Budweisers and Coors - while others were sourced locally, some from other areas of the state. The bartender was about to tell him when someone interrupted, asking for a gin and tonic and the bartender got to work. A heavy sigh left Dae's lips. He was so fucking horrible at this these days he couldn't even get a bartender to talk to him for two seconds.
domino666 my favourite time of year is here. im excited biiiiiiitch 🎃🎃🖤🖤
"You will do no such thing my buzzy wuzzy darling," the two shared pet names like lovers, "You look diminished already, positively wasting away. No, my dear, you must feed," Mael gave the other a reassuring and comforting pat to his leather clad knee, fingers squeezing toward the inner thigh in a physical action displaying intimating but not quite crossing it.
They pulled their hand back, reclining once more comfortably on the lounge, cool glass of their drink now in hand. Ice clinked against the walls as amber liquid swirled like a lazy sea. "Besides, it's always much more fun when we do it together," brown eyes rimmed in red shadow glinted with an obvious touch of wickedness. The glass is tipped and down goes the rest of their drink, burning cold alcohol down their throat. "What about the waiter? They looked tasty," Mael tipped the glass again until a cube of ice fell into their waiting mouth, they crunched it loudly.
♙ Perhaps Mael was right, his light eyes looking at the hand patting his thigh with assurance. He did trust that Mael wouldn't say so if it wasn't true, the being might have indulged their own violence but he didn't try and trick Dae into it. Not so far as Dae had ever been made away of anyway. "I hate that you're probably right," he admitted, shoulders falling from their raised state in exhaustion, leaning back in his chair in the same moment. It was certainly a contrasted lean, one of exhaustion to Mael's one of comfort.
♙ "Together 'at the same time' or together together?" Dae asked, his tone exaggerating the second together to imply he meant sharing someone. In a lot of ways it was easier. It meant that he didn't have to worry about two people potentially being hurt, and that he didn't have to fumble through it all alone, but two demons sharing their dinner...the person was unlikely to survive without them both being very very conscious of what was happening, in Dae's experience.
♙ Lashes flickering to the waiter Dae nodded. He might have been trying to rehabilitate his actions but he wasn't blind, the waiter was attractive and hearing the crunching of ice from Mael didn't help lessen potential desires. "They look handsome," Dae agreed quietly.
♙ Dae shifted where he sat, the leather of his pants sticking to the vinyl of the lounge they were on. The small club in New Orleans was dark and dank, the perfect place for a hunt and yet, as always, Dae was getting that mixed feeling in his gut. It twisted in his core like thorny vines fighting one another. He wanted to feed, he longed for the feeling of pleasure and gore running through his lips and over his form. He also longed to feel whole, to feel good and worthy of the world and it clouded his desires with guilt that he could not simply be that.
♙ "I could probably go another night," he told Mael, turning his chin in the direction of the more beautiful incubi. They had delicate hollow cheeks that Dae could not replicate and lips in the shape of a kiss. Dae felt like he had all the right features to be handsome, but wasn't quite sure how to use them. Likely this was an internal reflection, because in moments, when he was simply in his own head, he rested with a perfect pout and intensity to his eyes, even tightening his jaw in just the right way. Unfortunately he was pretty much always conscious of his body and would inevitably move it in a way that was awkward.
♙ Shoulders up by his neck he tried not to look Mael in the eyes. "I could just wait for you, honey." The typically romantic name said in friendship. Mael was sweet to him, even though he was a parasite of fun sucking.

Biography:
TW: Murder, Child Abuse
Culicidae was meant to be something. His birth held purpose to both his mother and father. While his father held no lover for the mortal woman who gave him his son, she was infatuated with the demonic being. He was her shadows and her fright and brought purpose to her life. Despite the isolation her life had become since meeting the demon and agreeing to give him a child that would 'drain the lives of cities' she felt more full of purpose than she had in her life. She was devoted to him. Well, that was until Culicidae was born.
The woman had not been prepared for the child to be taken from her. If she had not been so infatuated perhaps she would have been ready for it, but when the incubi tried to take his son the mortal woman would not allow it. She had never seen so much blood in her life as what remained on the floor of her home killing the demon that intended to take her son from her. She would raise him as was always intended, but she would do it.
Little Culicidae had his own plans. Though he did as his mother instructed, he cried for the beings he hurt either emotionally or physically. Early morning children shows told him that what he was doing was wrong and when his mother would shut them off to put one some Stephen King production he simply cried more. As a teenager he gave into his mother more. He loved her, she was the only person he'd ever been able to get close enough to love, and so he started to concede to her training, keeping his sorrow in.
It wasn't so horrible, once he was grown and could fully interact with his abilities, the humans usually went easily, happy smiles on their faces as he drained them of their life forces. But that changed when he met him. A handsome college photography student that liked the way the demon's hair was always different depending on how he slept, photographing it from every angle. The demon Culicidae became the boyfriend Dae and he started to feel things he never had before. His mother insisted it was simply his incubi nature, latching on to someone, that he would grow tired of things. When he did not however, when things went on a little too long, she insisted that if he wanted to fulfil his father's dreams for him then he needed to get rid of the photographer and continue seeking more victims. Dae didn't want to but who loved him more than his mother?
So he did it. He killed him.
There had never been such a feeling of loss and regret in him. The demon didn't know how to exist any longer. All he knew was that he had to do it away from his mother, somewhere safe, somewhere people would understand him trying to deal with what he was. Saintes seemed the perfect option and while his mother was out, Dae grabbed his go back and left. Hoping to find some sort of redemption.
