little one, the nymph of the Earth
born from the breast of life's little nests.
walking in a place where greens grow but thorns hid ,
in forest clear nights where the moon shines
but scares the wits of those who thread in the moonless night.
She stumbles in a place where many long know
deep and dark, rich and cool
it's one of life's many ironies, where its rust hues
are cooler to the soul than she would ever know.
And there she bathed and swam , even drank
the coolest colors her soul has ever known
from every small cut from traveling the little forest
cooling like the balm long sought from travels known.
it's a stunning river, hypnotic even, and she never left.
but the tides can rise to swallow up those who dare
to seek the red sea as their home.
they'll murmur in sadness as she struggles to swim
what once felt home and cool to the skin
is only as good as it calms who you have been
but the red sea seeps into your soul
if you continue to sink and swim in.
