iTunes Artist-a-Day #107 - Weerd Science

I’m going through my iTunes library in alphabetical order and sharing a track from every artist, once a day until I’m done.

Weerd Science is the hip-hop side project of Coheed and Cambria drummer Josh Eppard. The first time I heard it, I couldn’t believe how talented a rapper he actually is. It’s not often you hear of a progressive rock band drummer putting out a rap album, never mind being good at it.

To be honest, rap isn’t my favorite genre, but there is a lot to love when you look for it. There are some great tracks on Josh’s first Weerd Science album, Friends and Nervous Breakdowns, but I don’t really get into the whole thing. I like it more as a form of support for the guy, who I think is really great. When he left Coheed, the band suffered a bit, and his return for their sixth and seventh albums made a world of difference and brought new life back to the band.

Personally, I like Josh best as a drummer, which he’s amazing at, but Weerd Science is a cool side project. It’s as different from Coheed as you can get. I haven’t listened to his new album, Red Light Juliet, yet, but I’m sure he sounds just as good. I picked “Conspiracy Theories" because it’s the first track on his first album and it was the track I heard that made me think “oh, shit… he can actually rap.“
