Bush jumped - he had been turned away from the Duchess at the moment and was definitely not expecting that. Perhaps it had been a mistake -

“Pardon me, your grace,” he quickly stammered, rather flustered despite himself and his usual calm disposition.

Had it been a pure accident, however? Or had she truly intended to…?

“There is no need to worry, Your Grace,” Bush smiled, cocking a single eyebrow at her and carefully patting her hand. “Perhaps we’ve both let ourselves drink a little too much tonight.”

“Perhaps, but wine is the beginning of rather a lot of adventures, no?” She laughed.

“I suppose you could say that, your grace.” Still, despite himself, Bush could not help but grin. The duchess was a lovely woman and had an explosive personality - and he appreciated her for that.

She nodded, turning half away to look up at the stars. "If you wish to go back into the warm I'd not begrudge you. It's a rather chilly night."

Kitty lowered her gaze, thinking from his previous words that he was about to rebuff her. At his last few sentences she looked up, however, her eyes shining, “Truly?”

Edward smiled softly, “Truly.” Gently grasping her delicate hand, he brought them to his lips for a soft kiss upon the knuckle. “Your grace.”

"That's.... wonderful to hear, Sir Pellew." She flushed a deep red, unable to come up with any other words to the feelings she was currently experiencing.
