The Cotes ward had become War's main hub for living and relaxation. Although one may not think the horseman the type to relax; this was actually how he kept himself going day to day. Amongst other things.
At the moment he was sitting on a stone under a waterfall. His demonic armor and other bits of clothing besides his pants had been shed and was set to the side. The water pounded against his shoulders and back harshly, but he sat upright with his legs crossed, despite the immense pressure.
His eyes closed, he wore a frown on his face; but trust that he was relaxed despite that expression.
Surrounding the water were birds. Birds of different colors and sizes; most of them small.
However, something startled the birds, and they fluttered off as footsteps approached. War kept his eyes closed; one might think that he was asleep, but trust that he was not!
The forests of this domain brought to mind the woods around the dojo that prevailed against his thoughts. Returning to his demonic form had unmoored him, caught between the indoctrination by Muzan and the awakening of his human memories.
It left him with time to wander, still shying from the bright sun that lingered long with the summer by hiding in the shadows of the trees and the cool of the waters.
The roaring waterfall hides his approach until he scatters the birds at the edge of the water, dozens of wings fluttering past him as he brings a hand up to cover his face. Only once the feathers cleared did he take note of the enormous figure in the spray of the water.
He doesn't want to interrupt the peaceful moment, dropping to sit at the edge of the water with his feet dangling into the cool water. The shape of the armor keeps drawing his attention, his eyes tracing the demonic shapes of it.
"You - you're a warrior?"
He finally speaks up, hoping the clarity of his voice carries across the waterfall.

I want to fight with you for all eternity
The information was... concerning. Only mildly. As much as a bright light hurts to look at when you've had the lights off for so long.
"Death is meaningless here."
Muzan states flatly.
"If the Slayers are here, fight them if you wish to. Kill. Be killed. There is no plan besides existing. There is no overarching goal. Oddly enough, the sun doesn't burn here."
He pauses.
"It's strange, I will admit. Getting what I wanted in the end, but not in the way I expected. I can't find it in me to be bothered."
"The sun does not burn, but you aren't the untouchable creature you were before. Disappointment is to be expected."
Muzan gives him permission to fight - or rather, he does not forbid Akaza from fighting. He could kill until he grew tired of cleaning the blood from under his nails, and then he could do it again if he so felt it.
The sun doesn't burn them here. There was just - a life to be lived eternally. Until....what?
The anxiety of that question is tucked between his fourth and fifth ribs, to rest there for now.
"Your Uppermost Moons are here. If you do not plan to end the Slayers, then what will you do with us?"
His eye twinges as he says it. In lieu of a functioning pupil, the lines of the word for Three flex when he focuses on Muzan.
"The others would dislike the idea of being turned loose."
I couldn't get out of my mind how much Tanjiro's words to Akaza were similar to what Rengoku's mother said to Kyojuro.
Maybe if Rengoku had chosen different words in that battle, Akaza's trigger would have happened earlier?
It was a quiet evening. At least was supposed to be. There wasn't much for anything to hold his attention besides getting familiar with his new surroundings. He knew Akaza was here. There wasn't any need to go searching. They would converge just like the other upper moons.
Unlike with the other moons, however, he hadn't lost his grip on them like he did with Akaza, a regret that had been short lived. It didn't surprise him at all to be question directly where the other moons were still waiting for some explanation that might differ from what they already know.
"Obviously. Hardly explains why I'm here before you however. Did your wife hold you up in the afterlife?"
The admittance, even in Muzan's flat tone, strikes him strangely. He hadn't been banking on Muzan's victory for any of his goals, but it had always existed as some nebulous guarantee in the world. The sun rose, the grass grew, Muzan would eventually succeed against the slayers.
It seems even he could be overestimated. Akaza would probably have a laugh about it later. Even as strong as he was, he wouldn't bring Muzan's ire onto him already.
"So, do you have a current plan? ....there are a handful of the Slayers here on the island. I have encountered - one of them and seen another in passing."
His fingers are trembling until he curls them into his palms.
"I haven't yet gauged if they're weakened like we are, but we are missing some of our more inconvenient weaknesses."

not having a single purpose here... nor the drive... nor a hefty bank account to distract himself with... means ángel's become something of a half-hearted people-watcher in this city. what can he say? the quirky cast of citizens keeps his mind occupied.
on a related note, does this kid look a little green in the face or...? ack! well yes, getting caught certainly confirms it! not worth the terrible first impression, however!
"oh, i wasn't--" he blanks (something the man's never really had to kick himself for until recently). "your... tattoos!" good save; the finger snap added some flair to it, surely.
looking now, though, that is a lot of ink! enough for ángel to spare himself the self-deprecation following his social blunder and instead marvel at the artistry. "i thought i had award-winning pain tolerance... that's intense, kid. real clean, too. who's your artist?"
In the short time he's been here, he's grown to realize he draws attention very easily. He stood under the sun with the appreciation of a man who hadn't seen it in well over a century, letting the warmth bleed into his limbs. When he opens his eyes, there's a man staring at him. Before Akaza can call him on it, the comment turns to his tattoos.
He looks down at his arms to consider the dark blue lines. His memory of the original bands was spotty at best, tinted by blood and bruises, and the marks had migrated over the years of his time as a demon. Who was the artist?
"You won't find them here, and probably for the best." His hand is outstretched for the other to examine the way his fingers were darkened to match the bands.
"You ever make a man's dead heart beat again?"
"Wrong, I love my wife."
Unmistakable.
That voice makes his breath still, every muscle within his frame going rigid as the sense of fight or flight rushed to the forefront of Rengoku's mind. Tengen informed him the battle was won—demons were eradicated along with Muzan, at least, they were supposed to be.
Yet he could feel that presence behind him, a firm reminder of the formidable opponent that was Akaza.
Would he falter again? Not in the slightest.
A hand rested along his hip upon reflex, turning to meet the amber gaze and those familiar marking of an upper rank, his initial chill turning into a slow smoldering flame below the skin.
"Akaza. To meet you today must be fate."
It is him. That burning spirit, the smoldering ember that always burned in the heart of a man embodying the spirit of a blazing wildfire, made Akaza's dead heart thunder in his ears. His eyes flick to Rengoku's hands, the way he reaches for a blade that does not exist at his side.
They were on even footing now, more than they ever were. As excited as the thought made him, it felt incomplete. A Slayer without his blade was no fun to battle, just as a Demon was useless in battle when defanged.
He slows in his steps to stop a few feet from him, eyes darting over Rengoku's shape, searching for the wounds Akaza would have left on him in their battle.
"Fate! Ha! Fate indeed to place us together in this space again. Look!"
He held his arms out, tattoos lightened to a brilliant blue under the flash of the sun.
"You live and I can walk under the open sky again. How strange is this? It's like a dream."
@heartblazing.
"Hashira!"
His tone carries without regard for the people around them, civilians who barely lift their heads in response to the shouted title. They didn't matter to him. Nothing mattered to him except seeing if the man ahead of him was real and solid.
"Is it you? Is this truly some strange afterlife? Have we ended up in the same place?"
There is the quickening approach of his footsteps, though he lacks the killing intent that would signal an attack.
"Turn and face me!"
"Ah, I suppose we're roommates now. It doesn't surprise me that they put the ones with interesting looks in similar places. This ward is different from the last I stayed in."
What an interesting looking man. The curved horns and pointed ears are distinctly inhuman, but not in the same way as the demons he knew. The other had a polite manner to him, even if he can feel Dan Heng's eyes focused on the tattoos across his arms and face.
"Yes - I suppose we are. We'll be in each other's spaces a lot from now on. ....are you a warrior yourself? You carry yourself like one."
@loathsome-moon.
"Lord Kokushibo."
His voice is kept even on purpose when he greets him. The fact of the matter was that he lacked his strength currently - which meant he held no chance of besting the Upper Moon One even on his best day.
Which meant he had to play nice.
"Douma told me you were here as well. It seems we've found ourselves in quite the strange situation."
He lifts his head without being addressed, arms folded across his chest. The Uppermost Moons gathered in one place, aimless for their goals - Akaza finds it fascinating that Kokushibo hasn't rounded them up into something yet.
The freedom is a strange taste of something new to him, even if he's inclined to check in on the others.

@annihilationtype | cont. from ❄️
All Douma could think was that nothing ever changed between them, that even for their time apart, they could play like this again.
How delightful.
Of course he doesn't even dodge when that swing comes right for his jawline, but the previous strength of those punches had been reduced to that of a mere human, so it simply impacted and scraped across the leader, jerking his head to the side.
"Oh...oh you poor thing, I forgot for a moment you were like a newborn babe in this place."
A laugh rings out, soft and airy as he rubbed at that bruise that quickly dissolved into his pale skin. He wouldn't dare express his disappointment of not losing his entire jaw like usual, all in due time! This was just horseplay after all, how they bonded.
"How have you been, Lord Akaza! Things felt so incomplete without you around, and while Lord Kokushibo and I have been getting settled in, Master Muzan seems to only be concerned hiding away in his home. So boring."
He feels his fist collide with Douma's chin, but instead of the cracking of bone under his knuckles, it feels like striking a wall with his bare hand. He can feel the bruises darken in the same instance that they heal, rising steam from his skin as he draws himself back from Douma.
As frustrating as the sing-song tone of the Upper Two's voice is, his words feed Akaza a string of information that is invaluable. Namely that Kokushibo was here - and so was Muzan, who didn't seem to have access to the curse that would destroy demons who spoke his name.
Interesting. So it was not just lesser demons that had been stripped of their abilities. Akaza puts force into his limbs to throw himself back from Douma, putting several feet of space between them as he rubs at his knuckles.
"Don't take such a pitiable tone with me, Douma. You seem familiar with the rules of this space. Tell me before I tap into the determination to take your head off your shoulders."
His hand is shaken out as he tests the tension of his body. His faculties were all there, all his limbs remained, but there was so much missing.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
It felt like questioning things was almost expected in this new place - how could so many gather in one spot from so many distant lands? How could so many of them be like him, those who had stepped beyond the veil hoping for a time of rest? What was the purpose?
All of those seemed irrelevant when he heard the soft, jovial tone behind him.
Why was he here?
"I would have preferred you stay a ghost."
He can feel the creak in his knuckles when he clenches his hands, callouses digging into his palms, as he turned to face Douma. Of course there's a smug smile on that infuriating face.
There's the urge Akaza barely ignores to cross the space in two, three, four steps total before those knuckles are swinging for that damn smile.
However powerful the Upper Moons were, they had never gotten along - not in the way that would have really made them unstoppable. After all, the greatest threat to a demon besides one of the Hashira was another demon.

“Sorry, were you just talking to me?”
“I think you dropped this.”
“You look lost. Need some help?”

“We’ve never met, right? You seem familiar.”
“Is that seat taken?”
“Sorry, I think I just spilled something on you.”
“You’re blocking the doorway.”
“Were you just staring at me?”
“Excuse me, do you know the time?”

“I’ve been sent to find you.”
“Please don’t be alarmed, but I think we have the same bag.”
“Do you work here?”
“I’m fairly certain that’s mine.”
“You’ve got something on your face.”
“Sorry, I thought you were someone else.”
“Do you know the way to ___?”
“You’re hurt. Do you need help?”

“That was a close call.”
“Not to alarm you, but someone’s watching you.”
“Mind if I walk with you?”
“You look like you’re in trouble.”
“Was that your doing back there?”
“You don’t look like you’re from around here.”
“That was impressive. How’d you manage it?”
“I’m guessing you’re not here by accident.”
“Do I want to know what just happened?”
“You might want to keep your voice down.”
“Is it always this strange around here?”
